grybanas - 3-4-2010 at 10:16 AM

Hi i wanna buy power kite but i dont know which one to buy
my wheight is about 60kg and im ivivng in manchester (england)
i wanna 4 line kite
im thinking about :
legend 3.0 http://panshkite.com/index.php?gOo=goods_details.dwt&goo...

Blaze 3.0 http://panshkite.com/index.php?gOo=goods_details.dwt&goo...

Ace 2.5 http://panshkite.com/index.php?gOo=goods_details.dwt&goo...

Beamer IV 2.0 http://www.kitesaloft.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_23&p...

SO some1 can hrlp me which i shoul chose.

dgkid78 - 3-4-2010 at 11:25 AM

I like the Beamer and thats a great starter kite and size, it's a great quality durable kite. I havn't messed around with the Pansh kites, so i couldn't give you any info on those. HQ Beamer seems to be an obvious choice for me. I would prob get the 3m Beamer though for your weight as it will be a better all around kite in the begining stages. :spin:

grybanas - 3-4-2010 at 12:24 PM

the problem is i dont have a lot of money i can spend about 100 pounds so beamer 3.0 is a little bit to much for me :(

acampbell - 3-4-2010 at 12:29 PM

If this is your first kite, most will agree that Pansh is not a good choice. They do not come with instructions, the quality is inconsistent and they frequently require the kind of adjustments you might not know how to make. The lines they come with are known to be poor. If budget is an issue, then shop for used gear. Good stuff come up here from time to time.

grybanas - 3-4-2010 at 01:03 PM

its difficult to find a shop of new ones impossible to find usedand all shops is over internet so i dont wanna buy used because i dont know its condittion.

acampbell - 3-4-2010 at 01:14 PM

most sellers here are safe and well known. Just ask around like you did above before you pull the trigger and pay. The kite world is small and people look out. Just keep looking and ask when you think you have found something

grybanas - 3-4-2010 at 01:24 PM

ok

Can you say about size i think is to small 2 meters.
ANd maybe with help i can manage to make adjustments for Pansh ? :)

flexiblade - 3-4-2010 at 02:02 PM

A 2m kite is too small to begin with. It will limit the times you can get out to practice - a 3m is your best bet and the 3m legend is not a bad starter kite. I know the company has an iffy reputation but even with its shortcomings you will learn a lot on a pansh. The beamer is the superior kite, don't get me wrong, but dollar for dollar, or pound for pound the legend will teach you a lot for half the price. As far as not including instructions - all you need to know are 3 things to begin with

1. Larks Head knot - look it up
2. Wind Window - look it up
3. Wind Speed - for a 3m legend start at 7mph and stop at 13mph for a beginner.

And remember to get a brain bucket - winds are unpredictable.
All other knowledge will be gained as we all here did - through experience and question and answer sessions with fellow kiters - find one locally, shouldn't be a problem in Britain.

BigMikesKites - 3-4-2010 at 02:41 PM

It all depends on your winds. A 2m is great if your winds are 10 and up, though it will fly in less. The 3m will serve you in a wider range on the low end.

Look for a Peter Lynn Hornet 3m. Its about $30 US cheaper than the Beamer and still a good kite.

I've been told to stay away from Pansch by people here that I trust...otherwise I cannot say.

bobalooie57 - 3-4-2010 at 02:53 PM

Seems like you could meet up with some kiters on your side, even if it meant a trip to Blackpool(+/- 50 mi.), or other coastal spot. Get with them, pick their brains, and use their quivers to find out what's right for you! You might even get lucky and buy some good used from a local mate! Good luck, and welcome to the forum. btw, my 2M Beamer IV has gotten me over 20 mph in my buggy! love that kite!

grybanas - 3-4-2010 at 03:38 PM

thanks fellas!

bobalooie57 i dont want kitebording maybe kitesurfing but maybe after some time i wanna try power kitting with cheap kite which has a little bit pull (but not for 8yrs old kids) :)
So i wanna try something that will let me to decide i like power kitting or not.
i will use kite in Heaton Park which should be the best for kiting in my area.
And bobalooie57where are you from? If from UK, maybe you coul tell something more about shops and places?

bobalooie57 - 3-4-2010 at 03:44 PM

Upstate NY, actually, I just envy the beaches you have there! So I don't know about any shops, but there is a good trader list here, and I'd say you can trust what people have to say about their experiences buying used in the for sale section here.

bobalooie57 - 3-4-2010 at 03:52 PM

And Heaton Park looks lovely, but challenging for kiting, lots of trees. Between the reservoir and the fish pond looks like a good field, especially with a west wind, it should smooth out coming over the water. IIRC the wild jumper video's were from the Blackpool area? not sure on that one, though.

indigo_wolf - 3-4-2010 at 04:16 PM

There are a lot of good deals for used kites. I have bought a fair number of new kites, but a lot were also bought used and almost without exception they have all arrived in mint condition for a fraction of the cost of a new kite. The forums where kites are sold generally have a section to leave feedback on sellers and buyers.

Some kites currently up for sale in the UK:

KiteCrowd
2009 PKD Buster 3M For Around £100

Flexifoil Bullet 3.5M for £100

Peter Lynn Core 3M for £120 Shipped

EBay.Co.UK
Flexifoil Rage 2.5M (Current bid: £80.00 +£10.00 )

Flexifoil Rage 2.5M (Current bid: £69.99 +£5.00)

Flexifoil Bullet 3.5M (Current bid: £31.00 + £10.00)

Flexifoil Bullet 2.5M (Current bid: £60.00+ £10.00)

Flexifoil Bullet 3.5 (Current bid: £4.60 +£15.00 - Reserve Not Met)

Ozone Samurai 3.0M (Current bid: £0.99 - No Reserve)

Hope that helps.

ATB,
Sam

Grybanas grab one of those Bullets. They are classics and great kites. The Core is less than 1/2 price of new and the best kite on the list.

bassboi - 3-4-2010 at 04:50 PM

Don't be afraid to buy a used kite. The one I currently own was used, however, it flies great. I have no problems with it, however, it has a problem of pulling me around like a rag doll.

As indigo_wolf has posted, those seem to be some great deals for used kites. Kites really do seem to move from many peoples' hands without a problem. Theres even a kite trade thing in the forum where a kite is passed between members to test it out.

good luck :)

If that translates to:
"In that forum you need get approval or something"

that's not uncommon. Generally approval happens very quickly unless the webmaster is travelling. It's a one time thing and fairly painless.

It's basically just a way to keep automated programs from registering for forums and dumping SPAM into them. It's still possible manually, but makes the SPAMMERs work a little harder.

No experience with the Cirrus Pro... I believe they are mostly sold in the UK. There is a review over here.

The RadSails is probably OK. BigKid sells them, so he might be able to offer up more information on them. Pretty good price for it though.

The Himalaya looks to be a knockoff kite. The seller only has one feedback. The picture is Photoshopped, which isn't a terrible thing by itself. However, the kite that is pictured is a Peter Lynn Pepper II which is a fine kite. However, them using the image with another kite name is highly suspect and should set off all kinds of warning bells.

Sam

Sorry i found another one but wandering its not to big ?

this one
4mtr Ozone Samurai Blue\White, Ozone 25mtr Lines, Ozone handles, Ozone Ruck sack £120

nocando - 4-4-2010 at 08:31 PM

hey grybanas, why not delay your kite buying for a week or so.

Wait for everyone to get home after NABX, and see all the sweet deals that will occur.

canuck - 4-4-2010 at 08:43 PM

I bought a Radsail Basic 3.0 on e-bay from the UK and it has performed well. The kite is well made and flies well. I used it to learn with and now use it in winds up to 25-30 mph. I'm about 98kg and the 3m will kick my butt hard.

The rucksack gives you lots of room too. The bridle and lines are a lot heavier weight than I've seen on other kites and the handles are not the best but it all works.

For the money, I would go for the Ozone or Flexifoil kites before the Radsail.

flexiblade - 4-4-2010 at 08:48 PM

Try and not spread yourself too thin - I've found a solid fixation on a specific brand is the foundation for true understanding of kite quality.

When you over fixate on a specific kite you find yourself fantasizing in truly absurd ways about how great it is going to be. You see yourself actually flying around effortlessly through the air, landing perfectly to the sound of applause of all of the astounded onlookers who just happened to be blessed enough to witness your skills on the most amazing kite ever. This leads to the excruciatingly painful anticipation when the kite is on its way to you, checking the tracking number 3 to 4 times a day as if it will make a difference. Going back over other peoples write-ups on the kite in question and focusing on the positive, "This is going to be the greatest experience ever!", and disregarding the negative, "It won't be that way for me, they were doing it all wrong!". After all of the fantasizing and anticipation has come to a peak, then and only then can you truly be able to judge a kite properly. For the Good: I was allowed to partake of the fruit of amazing enjoyment and behold it was good. For the Worst: The relationship just turned out that way, didn't want it to but we both agreed it was for the best that we don't see each other any longer, but I'm keeping the lines. From a beginning of complete Love or total Hate can you clearly make the personal call towards name brands.

Oh, and Demos are just cheating - like casual sex without a true commitment, over too quick without a real sense of understanding one another.

I buy primarily used kites which at this point in my life I have no regret in doing in that all the people I date are about the same. I consider myself worn with a few professional repairs, taped pinholes, but still crispy.
