kite stakes

Dagon - 15-4-2010 at 03:03 PM

I need some kite stakes, nothing fancy golf balls are fine. I just dont have any nor do I want to make them. Sell me yours instead. Cheaper the better.

nocando - 15-4-2010 at 05:05 PM

use old screwdrivers painted brightly, save some money for new kites

Kamikuza - 15-4-2010 at 05:35 PM

I got a 10mm steel spike thing with an eye on one end from the hardware store for like $2 for hard surfaces like the baseball field (packed sandy stony earth) and a 4 pack of large tent pegs (about 1' long with 1" T-shaped blades) for softer surfaces.
Usually put my kite bag next to the spike so I can see it in the dark :)

lol, how cheap, i'm running over rebar stakes in the soccer fields, so i just pick 'em up and paint 'em... you want three of those? Pay shipping and they are yours... they are even neon orange now, lol

if ya need big nets i can prolly get those too... LMAO!!!

I really like the HQ stakes for use in dirt. They have the bright orange plastic top that you can see a long way off. They aren't that expensive either.

STAKES, kite STAKES.

Coyotes are great at the beach but I use my little nasa kites in parking lots. You don't need much room with a nasa wing. I often ride with the bridle attached to the handles.

Flying with handles and skates is great. If you get in trouble you just let go and handles really help you balance. Nasa kites aren't great performers but you can use them in really small areas and put them in your pocket if the wind dies.

rocfighter - 18-4-2010 at 05:17 AM

Bob when are you cooking?
Oh kite stakes. I use old spike type tent stakes that the plastic top has broken and drill a hole in a golf ball. A hammer and some super glue and a kite stake is born. And it is almost free.

Kamikuza - 18-4-2010 at 06:17 AM

Used a Peter Lynn stake tonight ... the nice wide T on the end makes it a breeze to stick in soft sand!

Hardrock - 18-4-2010 at 06:47 AM

I like the HQ's also, but will throw a rubber mallet type of hammer in the bag.

windpoacher - 18-4-2010 at 10:54 AM

:saint:Whats that their is clean wind behind the heavenly gates :wee: :saint:

rocfighter - 18-4-2010 at 03:15 PM

We must not have been in heaven today. The wind was terrible. I'd get the Ace5m in the air and it would be pulling good and then fall to the ground in a heap. Man that is a bad thing!!
Nothing flew well all day. But I spent the day with a hundred cool fun people. And thats what really counts I think.

WolfWolfee - 19-4-2010 at 05:32 AM

We had great winds yesterday with a the first forest fire of the year but the hot embers are killer on the kites and melt stakes...lol

WolfWolfee - 19-4-2010 at 05:34 AM

I pick up these over size dice from the buck store and drill a hole and put in a 8" spike can make you one up if you can't find anything else let me know.

arkay - 19-4-2010 at 09:00 AM

Works for those really windy days ;) Strong enought to tethered launch an arc for sle. I just add some surveyors tape on the top for visibility.

rocfighter - 20-4-2010 at 03:57 AM

Man I like the tape idea. We use lots of these dog stakes for our display kites. I am always out at the end of the day looking for at least one!! To close to the problem I guess!
I do paint the tops red. But it fades and wears off.

can you tie a streamer to them?

Edit: maybe I misread that.
