Just won a Viper 3.9 on eBay but got stiffed on the lines

the lemming - 21-4-2010 at 02:16 PM

I've just become the proud owner of a Peter Lynn 3.9 kite after an impulse bid on eBay. However I did not realise that the seller was only selling the kite and bag to put it in and was NOT selling anything else to get the kite off the ground.

Git.

So, what do I need to get this puppy off the ground and have some fun?

And more importantly how much will this all cost me?
Not after anything made of gold or so Hi-Tec that NASA would be proud of the purchase.

Looks like this little lemming leaped without looking, again.

Cheers

what is the sellers name?

Standard power lineset (Flexi or Ozone or HQ) 25m long and 400 - 500# powers over 150 - 250# brakes depending upon how much you weigh along with handles (17 inch).

All told, set you back $100 - 125, give or take depending upon the brand.

Was it clear and obvious in the ad that it was kite only or was it kind hidden? Hidden crap like that I dont like. But did you get a good price on the kite only? You'll need handles and quad lines which you can pickup at any kite retailer or if you have another kite, you can share lines and handles between them. All in all, depending on the quality of the lines and handles you want expect 100-150. I have a few handles lying around that I'd donate which would take you down to 70-100; not the best handles in the world, but will at least get you going.

If this is the auction. Not particularly hidden

---------------------------
peter lynn viper 3.9 power traction kite in as new condition still crispy and bright in blue and red with purple stripe a couple of dirt marks nothing really but being honest comes with rucksack as pic centre divider has frayed at top but doesnt really effect it a quality kite for recreational flying or for use with land board or buggy happy bidding.
----------------------------

Lineset and controls are not listed in the description or shown in any of the pictures. The included rucksack is.

I don't know the seller... He might have a black market ring selling kittens as slave labor, but 249 transactions & 100% Positive feedback.... even in the skewed currency of eBay opinions speaks well of him.

No offense to the OP, but this really seems like a case of:
Impulse buying (which it was identified as) = Assumptions = Potential disappointment.

Hope you get it sorted, and enjoy the kite.

ATB,
Sam

How much did you pay??? If you dont mind my asking.....

DAKITEZ - 21-4-2010 at 05:16 PM

different colors than an I have ever seen before. Maybe a Euro thing??

erratic winds - 21-4-2010 at 08:40 PM

ebay says he won the auction at 97 GBP, so shipping + handles & lines... real close to $200 for the setup, which ain't a bad deal, in my opinion.

Must be, or older maybe. Back pack is a little different too. Seems like a decent deal, and looks to be in good shape.

Thank you everybody for your advice on lines and handles.

2008 model judging on the colours

The moral snag here is that the Viper comes from the factory RTF only, so adding in the impulse buy and a buyer somewhat new to kiting and that is disappointing. In defense of the buyer though, he didn't mention the lines at all so he's legit.
