Super Size harnesses?

pokitetrash - 4-5-2010 at 11:37 AM

Any one know if there is a kite harness available to fit a big guy with a 52" waist? For buggying...

I think a full body construction/safety harness would be safe for him but he wants something more stream-lined with less straps like something made for kiting.

DAKITEZ - 4-5-2010 at 03:03 PM

the new PL harnesses that will be out soon may fit

acampbell - 4-5-2010 at 03:25 PM

Dakine will do custom, I am told.

Kamikuza - 4-5-2010 at 06:19 PM

Ozone Access harness is supposedly one size fits all ... I dunno cos I've been waiting almost a year to find out :D

What the story with the new PL harnesses and long horn handles? Dino you've got the tantalizing photos there on your site but no hard info ...

Teasing you with the pictures. I don't want to give you too much info all at once :P

If it'll fit and is like the Ozone climbing-style harness ... I may have to pre-order :D

pokitetrash - 5-5-2010 at 03:18 AM

I have an Ozone harness. It doesn't expand enough to fit my buddy --He tried to put it on and looked like he was trying to put on a wet girdle!

Would a safety harness with a front D ring be safe? I know without a spreader bar and pad it might be uncomfortable under power but safety and strength would work I would think? They make those big for construction.

teasing thats all he can do. since mine is coming. wooohooo.
he spent like 3 days working. ROFL. but ill have them instock.

i would go with the PL Divine Harness, in Large would fit the bigger dudes. If it fits Ozzy it will fit him

Riders like Dino / Screwy / Arie will take the Medium

ME if they made X-Small, but they dont so Small will have to do.

The Divine Harness (SM, MED, LG) comes without a spreader bar, but you can include it as an option with one of the three new spreader bars available. Also the issues with straps near the family jewels is gone, since they have placed the leg straps lower on the thigh and doesnt clip back up to the sides of the harness. when you get pulled up its drawing the power to your waist and thighs. by far in my opinion as the most comfortable seat harness for driving a buggy with. the neoprene is less restricting when seating.

The Base Harness (one size) comes with the basic spreader bar and its a lot like the old PL Seat harness but this ones more comfortable and less restricting.

All-Star handles is like the better version of the PL Std Handles. They where designed to be more for the freestyle drivers. With a bit of neoprene tubing around the leaders for more comfort.

Longhorn handles are for Racing with the main leaders further towards the top of the handle (harder to snag behind each other). Racers actually control the kite more near the center of the handle. This provides control over the brake line and you feel out the brake tension more, and helps in turning the kite faster.

@ Daskirtz. you can copy and paste this now, partner!!!

Still want more info :P pics would be nice too ...!

Rob13 - 7-5-2010 at 11:50 AM

I'm big just not 52 big . I used a Black Diamond climbing harness for a long time in the buggy and it worked great. I still use it some days. It has the D ring in the front. I'm using the Ozone harness most days here now though.

That's cool Rob13. I'll look into them too. We'll come up with something even if its just some chains and ropes!

Since the PL Base Harness is listed as one size and if you look to the right of the spreader bar in the pic

at how many times the main adjustment strap is folded over, it looks like the upper size limit might be fairly large.

The leg strap looks like it has so much spare length that the model decided to put the excess in his pocket rather than letting it dangle.

Might be time to pre-order.

Sam

Pokite, lets try better to maintain the family atmosphere here on the PKF. What you and your friend do personally is none of our business. Gosh, you think you know a guy...............;-)

About the Climbing harnesses, if you hook an extra carabiner betweeen the D ring and the crotch loop, it lessens the pressure down below and makes it much more comfortable. They might have something that fits and would be comfortable.

pokitetrash - 7-5-2010 at 02:37 PM

Yea, thats what I thought too. He doesn't want to spend 150 - 200 bucks on a premium custom harness and then not like depower. So, I've been looking on ebay for him for the climbing rig like the one Rob13 spoke of but the largest we found so far is XL. I've asked the seller to measure the waist when fully let out. We'll see. I know the rigs used for construction would work but they get $$ too. I'd say he wants his cake and eat it too, but I think thats waht gave him the 52" to begin with!

Indigo, I think the PL harness would be the best bet if I can get him to shell out the $$. 'Bout $160-$180 with the spreader bar?

Were on the right track fellas! Thanks for all the input. I know he appreciates the chance to do something new that he never thought he could before. I tell ya, we know the PL /Flexi Foot will hold up to his 6'5" 425lbs and not break so far...

Kamikuza - 7-5-2010 at 04:43 PM

It could be a race! Pre-order from Peter Lynn versus back-order from Ozone!

Actually, Kent at A Wind Of Change has the Ozone harness in stock.

Kamikuza - 7-5-2010 at 05:08 PM

Yeah but I should honor my agreement to buy it here first, eh ...

ripsessionkites - 8-5-2010 at 04:55 AM

My offer still stands to mail you the divine harness but if price is factor I can mail you the pl base harness when it comes in. The base harness is cheaper and comes with a spreader bar @ 90.00 usd

I will get pics of large guys in both the second it arrives. Anyone want to a model?

Maven454 - 8-5-2010 at 04:57 AM

Does the model get free gear?

pokitetrash - 8-5-2010 at 07:07 AM

Thanks Rip! It's up my big buddy now. I gave him the info so now I need to coach him on spending the $$.

Kamikuza - 8-5-2010 at 09:14 AM

Psch Mav you cheapskate ....

... does the model get free shipping?

Maven454 - 8-5-2010 at 09:25 AM

Hey, if they should get to keep one of the harnesses at least. Doesn't really matter to me, I think he wants a "plus sized" model. Something that I'm definitely not.

pokitetrash - 8-5-2010 at 09:43 AM

Yea, Dude is def plus size. He's such a huge guy, not just waist size and UNBELIEVEABLY strong, he was *&#@*!! slapping one of my big kite's around like a toy in howling winds and the kite broke before he could know to let it go. Broke 2 bridles in half and a line! He can definately kite if we can rig him safely.

Kamikuza - 8-5-2010 at 06:12 PM

 and

Is it a regular ol' spreader bar? I got 12 inchers on my Dakine & OR harnesses ... looking at the Ozone, it looks like a tiny short SB.
Can a SB pad be used?
How do the SB with the wheels work with landboarding? I mean, with the kite up and down from the zenith, is the Bullet with the up/down movable 'hooS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K- the best idea?

malacoda - 12-5-2010 at 07:13 PM

Hey Guys,
Just found this online, I'm new to forum and kiting, i currently have a homemade harness but am looking for something better for this winter... Has anyone figured out how big the Ozone base harness goes? What is this PL base everyone is talking about?

thanks!

DAKITEZ - 12-5-2010 at 07:34 PM

I should have the base harness here tomorrow and I will let you all know how big it goes.

Welcome malacoda!

Apparently, "Big Kiter" can be a whole new technical area. Plenty of power available in the kites, so as long as the equipment is chosen considering the strongest lines, bridles, bars, etc, why not?

DAKITEZ - 13-5-2010 at 03:35 PM

The Pl basic will not fit. I will provide more info later tonight, but it does not fit me 38 - 40 waist. Maybe it can be modified to fit. I will look more later after the kids and wife are sleeping. I can get it on and and it feels good, but I can not get close to strapping the waist strap. I had to have Dirk make me a fat boy extension for my HQ harness and the same extension could be used here.

malacoda - 13-5-2010 at 03:56 PM

Po: I guess though, I'm hoping kiting will help me leave that category, I've been getting an awesome workout from it when i take it out... I seem to be "Just" a bit too big for most harnesses at 44" around my midsection.... add in my winter gear that i need for snowkiting and i'm SOL... Hence the homemade harness.

Dakitez: disappointing, i had big hopes for it!

Kamikuza - 13-5-2010 at 05:17 PM

Dino - that's the PL Base harness, the NEW one?

DAKITEZ - 16-6-2010 at 09:56 PM

good news on this subject. I got my load of PL divine harnesses in yesterday. The large fits me like a glove. I would actually say I am at the lower end of its size scale. So 44-46 should have no problems with this bad boy. I can not wait to fly with it. I put it on in the house and was sitting on the couch watching tv and forgot i had it on its that comfortable.

I guess ripsessions is going to need a extra small harness and even then he will probably need to tie some rope around his waist to hold it up

Kami - Pl came out with 2 new harnesses this year the base harness and the divine. The base is much like the Ozone harness in the way it has a bunch of straps with a little back pad. The divine is a full blown diaper of a seat harness. Extremely comfortable because its all soft and molds to your body. Instead of some super stiff hard harness like many others out there. I can not wait to give it a run in the buggy for the true test, but I don't see any reason that I will not love it.

malacoda - 16-6-2010 at 10:17 PM

Is the Divine only for buggies or could i use it for snowboarding as well?

Kamikuza - 16-6-2010 at 11:56 PM

I wanted something light and easy to keep in the boot for landboarding ... so was interested in the Base but you said it doesn't take a wide load?
Would the Divine handle being a water harness?

its not a water harness more a kitebuggy harness. Ken #3 hasnt taken pics yet and i forgot too. the neoprene is only in some parts but it bends/curves to your beautiful figure.

correction, PL has 3 harnesses available. the base again just has straps and comes in one size that would fit med to large.
the divine harness is a seat harness with the leg straps that doesnt ride up to your family jewels. you can use this for landboarding as well. it will fit up to 49" +/-
the other Radical harness is due out sooner than later, which is the all-round harness.

i have a demo Large Divine harness if anyone wants to try it on at Long Beach, WA.

i do fit the small, mr.x-larger than life skirt boy. ROFL.

Kamikuza - 23-6-2010 at 06:27 PM

Just got my Ozone Access SB from Kent ... "One size fits all" just fits my big bum :ticking: it's a wiggle to put it on but straps up good. Gotta huck the leg straps right up into my crotch else the spreader bar pad jams Mr Jimmy :puzzled:
I think I'm wearing 46 inch jeans at the moment but they're loose ... I've been working the tread mill :)
