Did she say Oregon?

macboy - 9-5-2010 at 09:42 PM

Driving out to grandma's place this morning Kathy and I got to talking about one more week away before she goes back to work in July. She actually said (and I quote), "Too bad Oregon's so far, we could totally do a week there if we lived somewhere like Vancouver."

That Oregon coastline seems to have sunk it's claws deep in her too - not just me! I'm thinking this is all but a guaranteed return! Maybe not this summer but next summer FOR SURE! Hooray!

Well you can always come out my way! Our house is pretty darn kid friendly and the rent is company flying down the beach :D

We're a 12 hour drive to Vancouver and then I think it's 8 or nine to Sunset?

I guess it depends what you're driving, and with whom, but it should take about 5 to 6 hours from Vancouver BC to the north oregon coast.

I think a quicker route would be to go to Spokane, then head to the coast via the Gorge.

According to Google Maps the Spokane route will save about 14 minutes. It might save you a bit on gas though as you would have much less time in BC paying our high gas prices. The fastest way at less than 19 hours is to drive towards Vancouver but leave HWY 1 at Abbotsford. From there take the back roads to Nooksak Wa and then to Bellingham Wa and join I5. That little short cut will save about 40 minutes over driving to Surrey. Hunting/Sumas is also probably a faster border crossing than PAC HWY or Peace Arch.

Yeah....we had to streamline the return trip to make it home without driving mom or Anna crazy - 4-5 hour legs tops. We put Van on the "we'll be bacK" list and....well.....will be back ; )

Don't know if we'll make it this summer though sadly, but rest assured I'm keeping options open to grab a few kites and fly down for SOBB taking you up on the Bigfoot offer. We'll see how that one plays out.
