Screwyfits does it on 2 wheels

DAKITEZ - 10-5-2010 at 04:20 PM

Screwy playing with a Flexifoil scout buggy. These are his first runs on 2 wheels. he was getting solid by the end of the day. A couple more sessions and we might see him going backwards on 2 wheels :wee:

Bladerunner - 10-5-2010 at 04:25 PM

Screwy , I see ....... THAT is how you are getting your buggy built.
SMART !!!!!!

bigkid - 10-5-2010 at 04:33 PM

1st off, nice bug, where did ya get it?
2nd, nice brakes.
Oh ya, way to go Screwy:thumbup:

erratic winds - 10-5-2010 at 05:02 PM

I love any video that starts off with "hey guys watch this".

Hardrock - 10-5-2010 at 05:10 PM

Nice, and what a field that is!!!!!

flexiblade - 10-5-2010 at 05:18 PM

I found us some good spots on the coast that you all have check out. Nice trick screwwy, your skills are progressing. Good to see you got that beast together there DAKITEZ.

SCREWYFITS - 10-5-2010 at 05:25 PM

Thanx all,
yeah it seemed to come semi easy for me, if I had some smooth winds I think I'd be a lil more solid, that being said these unpredictable winds where great for my skills, if I can pull 2 wheels in that then smooth should be a walk in da sod farm... LOL
D's new bug is bad a$$ very solid and the design is on tip...
hope to have some more footage soon and stretch out my trick bag a lil, so expect to see several crash and burn vids as the Nor Cal Crew loves to catch those on film...

WELDNGOD - 10-5-2010 at 05:37 PM

I don't believe I just saw a production buggy w/ lower siderail to stop all that flexing. I have been building mine like that for 4 yrs. , what took em' so long. It seemed a nobrainer from the get go. lookin good Screwy.

tdmc96 - 10-5-2010 at 07:37 PM

Very nice Dirk, very nice:thumbup:
I guess I should pull the PL out and start learning myself.
Also....very nice bug Dino....Nice to see that beast rolling with your feet actually on the pegs......lol:tumble:
What kind of camera were you using and how did you mount it?
I'm thinking it was a GoPro with a rollbar mount.

Gonna have to mount the gopro next time...we seem to have a few OBE's ourselves from time to time.
Now that Grant (Coolbreeze) has a gopro,We'll have to do some dual filming and splice them together.
Nice Vid

Ken (K3)

DAKITEZ - 10-5-2010 at 07:48 PM

yep go pro with roll bar mount. I need to experiment more with different camera locations. but it was the first day with the camera and the first day on the new bug so I didn't want to take time to move the camera and waste buggy time. Next time I will put it in 1080 mode and pick a new camera location. I think I will also get some footage of the camera as a marker cone. So you will see the buggies come sliding up to the camera .. go around .. then come shooting back on the other side.
This camera stuff is turning my few hour buggy session into a multi day event. I go buggy for a few hours ... then come home and watch the few hours of video ... then edit it .. then upload. MAn I'm tired just talking about it.

you better keep practicing your speed runs because I'm after you at nabx 2011 ... care to make a friendly wager? No more pink skirt for me. Lets say loser buys dinner? It could be costly for you because you know I can eat :piggy:

BeamerBob - 10-5-2010 at 09:57 PM

Nice job screwy! You are going to add a whole new element to the sport in Nor Cal.

Those Flexi and PL buggies were really fun to ride on. Much better experience than I had in the past. Sliding turns, breaking loose in the straights, all good fun. I didn't try to hike a wheel though. Maybe next trip.

So since we are talking about speeds and wagers, what are the top speeds of us mere mortals? I might be in for a dinner wager, exspecially if Ken 3 or heck Ken 2 for that matter are involved. :bigok:

macboy - 10-5-2010 at 10:25 PM

Wow....nice skills AND a wicked nice place to play! Lucky, lucky, lucky guys!

arkay - 10-5-2010 at 11:20 PM

Nice, and dang those are some short lines!

i want in on this bet too. catch me if you can.

art_lessing - 11-5-2010 at 09:11 AM

that looks so fun.... Can you all let me know when you go out to the sod farm next?

SCREWYFITS - 11-5-2010 at 12:15 PM

Yeah, we haven't met yet, that'd be fun times...
I'm hoping this weekend coming up, but I got an prior engagement on Sat so Sun or Mon might be my only chance, Dino might be up for a ride though, I'll let him chime in on that...

Thanx all, this has lit a new flame for me and I'm back to obsessing again, hope to start trying some jumps and ride fakie soon... stay tooned, loony tooned... hehehe

FAMOUSFITS!!! keep it up :spin:

how come dino slows down with his foot? :puzzled:

Drewculous - 11-5-2010 at 02:41 PM

nice camera angle!

-no crotch shots
-could see the kite
-could see the rider
-could see the fields
-no too bouncy (ie looking around)

i like it!

Bladerunner - 11-5-2010 at 04:15 PM

I planned on mastering the 2 wheel the summer I found Coyotes and got distracted.

Maybe this should be the summer I get it down. HAVING to buggy in Washington and all.

Maybe we should have a little Nor Cal gets beaten by Canada at the longest 2 wheel next year ? :P

A good reason for us all to work on it !

Macboy and Revpaul , you in ?

I wonder if there is a record for top speed 1 man, 1 kite, on 2 wheels ? :smug:

:bigok:

mougl - 11-5-2010 at 04:36 PM

Awesome vid Dino!

Killer riding screwey...dude, what length lines are you rockin on that viper???

SCREWYFITS - 11-5-2010 at 04:51 PM

Them are about 8.25m lines, funny thing about them lines, I was screwing around at NABX and popped my lines on DAKITEZ while bugging back from the "Out and Back" so I just made two pair of short lines... HeHeHe they are real nice in unpredictable winds, helped me fly a lil bigger kite than I would have in those winds...

Bladerunner I'm down for a friendly challenge... and that one sounds kinda fun... anything to get back to the PLAYA with all my family...

Hey Rip we need to get Dino a Fred Flinstone skirt... LOL

mougl - 11-5-2010 at 04:56 PM

Rofl@the flintstone skirt!

SCREWYFITS - 11-5-2010 at 07:12 PM

Gotta admit Dakitez is step'n it up now too, he's feeling all good and stable now in this new bug, he should break his personal best by quite a bit now... hes just foot breaking to get me on film with the gopro HD, sorry I couldn't help myself with the Flinstone comment... hehe...:frog:
He didn't share all his video of him ripping up and down the farm... he's letting me have my 15min, LOL...

popeyethewelder - 11-5-2010 at 11:00 PM

Nice video and...well done guys

not sure if there is a record, but I can sure tell you I saw Brian blazing on 2 wheels at nabx this year. He was flying by most people like they were standing still ... and he was on 2 wheels

Nice video. Great shots, I liked the shots from the kite.

Screwey and BeamerBob races

AD72 - 17-5-2010 at 09:05 PM

From the prior weekend. Races short lines vs. long lines.

BeamerBob - 17-5-2010 at 10:45 PM

Thanks for the video AD! The third rider on the green 2m Beamer is my son Wexler. He has the buggy dialed in now. This past weekend my younger son Jared gave the buggy a try and now he is linking turns and riding back into camp. Just when I had my quiver pretty well shaped up, I now have to have kites for 3 people in all the wind conditions. And don't even start about the arguments about who's turn it is in the buggy. I'm sure I'll have to have a second buggy soon to spread the joy a little. Gotta love it.

I get a real kick out of playing tag like that. Screwy and I were pretty well matched in similar buggies and similar sized kites. Him on short lines and me on longer ones. Awesome day with great guys.

SCREWYFITS - 18-5-2010 at 07:01 AM

I totally dig this video, it has all the fun feel we where having that day... I just was noticing that I was in your bug and BB was in the Flexi Scout and Wex was in Dakitez's PL... The music jams with this vid too and the perfect length...
Thanx, you did a great job I'm totally love'n it...:wee:

airin - 18-5-2010 at 09:34 AM

Wow guys, your playground looks just amazing...buggy heaven!

So Screwy, were those the 8.5 m lines that you were using in that second vid? How do you like the short lines? You have lots of room to fly at the sod farm so, given that cramped conditions aren't the reason for going to shorter lines, why did you choose to use them there....or was it just for the fun factor that you chose to fly on them?

mougl - 18-5-2010 at 01:09 PM

screwy...

Any tips for someone trying to learn to 2 wheel?

BeamerBob - 18-5-2010 at 01:09 PM

One thing to glean from the short lines is that he was using a 3.8m viper as I recall and I was using a 2.4m. Neither rider had a clear advantage, so the short lines effectively take some power out of the kite if you don't want to size down but want a little less than your kite would give on long lines.

If Screwy was a real smart $%&, this is where I would try to point out that I was keeping up with him with a smaller kite, but that won't be necessary here. :saint: I do think he likes the short lines because he is a parapacker and it is so much more time consuming than handle wrapping so the short lines are less work.

SCREWYFITS - 18-5-2010 at 03:28 PM

@ airin, Yes those are the short 8.5m lines there too...
The short lines where more or less for fun and a learning experience, I popped a set of lines down at NABX this year and decided to make two sets of short lines with the scrap lines that I broke... They help in gusty winds too...

I agree to a point with BB's comment that the power is less, my idea is more that it gets in and out of the power quicker so in higher winds its a lil more forgiving and it also makes a bigger kite turn faster than on longer lines...

@ mougl, all I can say is try hanging out in your yard or where ever you can and try and balance on two wheels while staying still... I was told to sit on two wheels in front of your TV, I haven't but I do just hanging out... remember to do both sides...

@ BB, you kill me, LOL... :smug: I sense a friendly challenge (apples to apples), its always fun to race...

Coming in and out of your turns (in the bug) are more difficult (at least a challenge) if your used to longer lines...

BeamerBob - 18-5-2010 at 03:31 PM

Screwy, I feel like with you having more buggy experience than I have, I better get my digs when the opportunity comes along. The race always sounds great since I'm sure to learn something along the way and I'm finding it makes me push my limits a tad.

DAKITEZ - 18-5-2010 at 03:38 PM

next time out I'm bringing cones. We all better start practicing our up wind turns :wee:

AD72 - 18-5-2010 at 04:05 PM

No more bringing the kite up to 12 and slow down to make the turn as it created gridlock last weekend.
What were the wind speeds that day of the race? It was cranking. It took a bit to get used to but was great fun with the short lines.

SCREWYFITS - 18-5-2010 at 04:30 PM

@ BB, I like the digs, don't stop till I'm gasping for air... LOL... I deserve every lil bit I can get...:shocked2:

I like the cone idea... so how does Thur, Fri, Sat & Sun sound... hehehe... I'm sober this week, LOL...
I'ma gonna try and do the cone course on 2 wheels... LOL...

@ AD72, another reason to like the shorties...

BeamerBob - 18-5-2010 at 10:59 PM

I can do downturns but one of us needs to learn (and teach the rest) what I think is called the suicide jibe for smooth orderly turns in a crowd. If we keep riding together like this, it will improve our game across the board.

mougl - 19-5-2010 at 04:41 AM

Popeye has a great write up on the dead mans turn on his site

SCREWYFITS - 19-5-2010 at 10:58 AM

Here is what (I think) mougl is talking about...

BeamerBob - 19-5-2010 at 12:54 PM

I think this is what will clean up the crowded turns. Can't get my head wrapped around it yet though.
