Sticking it to the man

csa_deadon - 13-5-2010 at 04:55 PM

Take that Mr. Jobs. Daughters iphone gave her the white screen of death. Authorized retailor said it would be $199.00 to fix. Said a new phone was the same price, and that it was still under warrenty. They still thought it should cost the same as a new phone.

Said thanks but no thanks. Found the nearest apple store, made appointment (which seemed silly at the time). Drove the 2.5 hours to get there.

Apple people tried the same till I produced the warrenty.
Short story is Steve Jobs ate this one!

Droid phone ftw...

Apple anything - I won't touch it on principle.
WTF is with not honouring the warranty???

Good job on sticking it to them with the warranty -- companies always seem to want to screw you over by trying to make you purchase a new product.

Personally, I dislike Apple in general. They make it to where you absolutely have to use their software with their products. Not only that, but theres certainly a price premium you have to pay. I was looking in the best buy ad in the local sunday paper, and for virtually the same laptop hardware wise, it was like $1799 for the Apple, and like 1,199 or 1099 for the Toshiba that was listed. Why would I want to pay at least $400 more for something that I can't fully utilize all the hardware?

I'm sorry, but for $1799, I can build myself an awesome gaming machine for at home, and then buy a cheap $500 laptop for the road, which still would probably be more powerful than the $1799 Macbook.

So i bought my iphone refurb from att. Brought it home and bluetooth didn't work. brought it to the store and they said they didn't service, repair, replace, or look at iphone so i had to go to the apple store. tried to go to the store a few times, but no appointments or kids were insane. finally made it there last week, after 8mo. they opened the phone and said that there was water damage and that someone had opened the phone and removed the internal water sensors. (this was not me) But the took the phone back and gave me a shiney new phone with more memory :)

Ok, here's the sad part. I babied by previous phone and this one. This weekend the neighbor came over and said he was setting up slip and slide for the kids and had beers and lawn chairs for us. at one point during the fun, i had to "rescue" my son. I slipped on the grass and landed... on my new phone. :shocked2: the screen blanked out. backlight died. and I could see water under the screen and the camera glass. I put it under a hair dryer shooting in the headphone and data ports... 5 hours later it was back to working order. AND the water sensors were not tripped :)

Whoo.. an ironic twist of fate :wee:

Instead of turning this into an anti-Apple rant (too easy) I'll turn it into an anti-cellphone rant.

SMS & phone, that's all I fuggin' want - not 10,000 wanky functions that I never have the time to use. Personally, I could live without the SMS too - I'd get my old Motorola brick out of storage if it'd work on the network.

It's really sad to see people elbowing others in the head and trampling all over the real people as they make sweet love to those fuggin' sad little boxes of plastic ...

No, no, no... I think what you really want is to carry your laptop with you everywhere. It's powerful enough to take phone calls, voicemail, play games, view "kite" pictures and it's got plenty of battery life!

Hehe I love my motorola brick phone I have it to this day in storage. That was the best analog phone and it was super clear too.

My other favorite blast from the past phone has to be the motorla elite flip.

Motorola was going to introduce a "dumb phone" ...guess it never made it to the US.
Modified SLVR case, e-ink display, no camera, was supposed to have like 7 days of talk time per charge

i want one!

18 days of standby:thumbup:.

A friend of mine was describing all of the crap his new smartphone did, I interrupted with "Well mine makes phone calls". He thought I was joking. The new brick is a candy bar.
