Best shipping from us to canada, vice versa

arkay - 4-6-2010 at 05:10 PM

What's the best way to ship kites to and from canada?

Carrier?

Declared vs insured values?

Declared item types?

:puzzled:

USPS / Canada Post (its no faster than UPS or FEDEX Ground)

99.00 or less

never insure value, because it has to match the price

if its USED ... declare it has Kite - USED "no resale value"

if its NEW ... declare it has TOY-KITE / GIFT

sorry i cant be handing out HS Codes we use. you'll have to do your own leg work for that one. there is like a million codes, and some are taxed higher than others.

UPS charges customs agent fees that are HUGE.

USPS Priority mail is what I use. As a commercial shipper I cannot use "gift" as a story but can declare a lower value that is still defensible if questioned.

Use customs HTH code 8801.00.000 for kites. Don't know what the big secret is...

I have recieved several items from Cananda and I must say the CA/USPS sucks for recieving unless you have great patience. I had an ATB held in customs for almost a month. Two weeks for a kite from B.C. STEPHDIP sent my Synergy via UPS and it got here in two or three days...

If "best" means lowest cost to you then use the Postal Service. If "best" means fastest then use a courier service. Both have tracking so you can get an idea where your package is in the system.

I bought a 82ft 484/220lb line set on ebay for $30 and the seller would not ship USPS. Shipping to Canada via UPS cost $19.53 plus $34.50 brokerage. Another 82ft 484/220lb line set cost $57 but the seller shipped USPS and the shipping was $8.50 plus $7.08 for Canada Post to clear it. I think it took a week longer for the postal service to deliver.

every HS Code is different for each country, since that isnt the code i would use for shipping to international countries. ill make Canadian dealers work for their money. hehehe.

arkay, just send it home with one of us? what kite is it? the BC Crew will want to demo it first for safety reasons. hehehe.
