Oil spill rant and ideas.

rocfighter - 14-6-2010 at 05:17 AM

Ok so I have been venting to every one I know and finnaly Sandy said this morning just write it down and see what others think. I think she is tired of hearing it!!
So all of these corp. people that are triing to figure out how to handle this oil spill are just over thinking the whole thing. As to how to stop the flow I really do not know. It is very frieghtnening what is going to happen in the long run. But that is another rant.
The sullution I see is to collect the oil that is already on the surface which is going to stop water evaporation and change the earths climate.
What they need to do is create a giand scoop like a hooj dust pan. About 100 ft. wide and 200 feet long. With a funnel on the back side for a large pipe to go to an oil tanker. Scoop and pump the oil and water into the tanker and allow it to settle and drian out the water. Since all the platforms in the gulf are shut down now there must be houndreds if not thousands of tankers sitting idle.
This is a small scale idea. But from little acorns grow the mighty oak. Lets start some where.
Look for other rants as I am very agree about the lack of response by BP and our government.
Dave.
Please share your ideas as well.

arent they already doing the hooj scoop idea? I may be completely wrong, but isnt that what the skimmers are doing?

IDK... without going into some crazy political rant that will get the thread locked... i just think they need to plug the leak first... then continue clean-up. If its still pumping.. it wont matter how much we clean up...

The problem with removal is its like mowing a soccer field with a pair of nose-hair-clippers... it may work.... it'll just take a long time to clean that big of an area... its just a sucky deal, to say the least

I say we bomb the hell out of North Korea. They probably had nothing to do with it, but they need a good a$$ kicking for whatever they might be thinking of doing in the future.

I say, if we cannot go that deep w/ a diver who can actually do something down there ,then we have no business pokin holes into the earth and letting stuff out. Obviously we don't really have a handle on the deepwater drilling thing and we got a 50,000,000 gallon mess to prove it. International standards need to be put forward and all oil companies should follow them.
Everyone remember all that record profit the oil cos. were getting when gas was 4$ a gallon. I do not feel sorry for BP one bit. They should have to compensate the US bigtime, and if there were any negligence involved, punitive damages should be applied.

Not that off topic but here is a legit ad from 1999:

Drew I was at my parents today watching a bit of news. And yes they are using skimmers but they seem to be in the form of oilsorb robes. Maybe using other forms as well.
Jovver that is a sad reality.
WG you are dead on as ussual.

here is a link to the underwater ROV that BP is using

I'm by far no expert but really have to agree that if we can't fix it down there then we shouldn't be down there. Hate to see what is going to happen when hurricanes start showing their faces. Not trying to sound stupid but they have really f@%!ed up the ecosystem really really bad, so why can't they just use some sort of charge to flatten the damn thing. I know that there would be an extremely high risk of tsunami or such thing but trying to fix it ain't proving useful. They have done so much damage and who knows how long it could be before they stop it. I think that they should level the thing so that it could close right off for good, and then stop all deep water drilling all together. Imagine if this happened in the Arctic Ocean or other cold body of water. There would be no stopping that with the rough water and cold temps. Blows my minds that humans can be so careless like this. Live and learn I guess.

flyboy15 - 15-6-2010 at 09:46 AM

I like how BP came up with the idea of pumping mud down the pipe before they came up with the idea of putting a cap on the pipe

Drewculous - 15-6-2010 at 10:44 AM

:eureka:

blow it up!

BRILLIANT!!

as cliche as it sounds... americans wanting to blow 'er up... thats actually about the best idea... something hot enough to fuse it all into one giant rock plug... if there were no oil, it'd be like the dynamite surfing video posted a while back

Hardrock - 15-6-2010 at 11:07 AM

I would take a HOOJ heavy concrete pipe maybe 20' in diameter or large enough to sit on the bottom flat all the way around it and 15' high.

Build it so the upper rim will easily adapt to another reducer pipe huge and heavy an so on until the proper size can be fitted to a pumping rig at the surface.

These can be lowered from a surface ship and weight reduced by lift bags.

mougl - 15-6-2010 at 01:08 PM

The answer is simple...

Put a wedding ring around the pipe. It will then stop putting out.

Multiple ROV footage

Yes the top hat had to be removed because of a ROV collision but now is back in place. I hope they plug this thing soon.

borntofli - 23-6-2010 at 05:58 PM

We're going to have a tropical storm or hurricane next week in the gulf, ought to stir things up a bit.............

NOT GOOD

The whole gulf coast might be screwed

WELDNGOD - 23-6-2010 at 06:02 PM

this is like a B horror flick. Hard to believe it REALLY happening. It just keeps gettin worse and worse.

rocfighter - 24-6-2010 at 05:17 AM

Oh but BP is doing a great job keeping the oil from the coast. I heard them say it so it must be true. Why would a corp slime big wig lie?
