two wheelin

WELDNGOD - 15-6-2010 at 05:58 PM

went to my fav location today ,onshore winds were 10-15 and by the time I left it was 15-20. I decided to try out the 8.6 RII in some big wind.
I only made two runsdown the beach and got lifted about 8 ft in the air and watched the buggy go rollin on without me! Dang! I hate it when that happens,so I decide to land it and switch to the 5.5 PKD Century II.
I also decided to fly hotwired as there was no one around.I took my wife and my buddy for tandem rides, they had a blast. Then the wind kicked up a notch,so I figure speed runs!
So ,there I am ,doin what is probably my fastest ever speed ,hotwired(gotta get GPS) . I was haulin azz and my turnaround was comin up ,so I started shaving off speed by zig-zagging the rear end, and takin the kite higher in the window. Then the buggy dropped down on one side. When I looked over to see if I had a flat tire...
I saw my right rear tire ,passing me! yeah, I said passing me! Not exactly the kind of 2 -wheel action I was wanting to do .
Flyguy0101, you were right Sunday ,when you said that nut didn't look right. I shoulda looked closer. Of all the times NOT to have a camera running. The look on my face was priceless I'm sure, but nobody saw it.

moral of the story ... Guys always check your NUTS! Ladies ,you should also check your nuts.

was still a great day, just sux that I didn't have any spares w/ me today ,so I had to leave just when the tide was gettin right and the east wind was kickin.

Now THAT would have been a great point of view shot for me to get traveling on the back!

I don't think you would like being pilotless at speed, cause when I pulled the QR , the kite took me out of the #@%$#!pit. It was like an EJECT button. :wee:

lol
Great story bud. Wish I could have seen it in action. I keep a spare wrench in my trunk (or used to) to tighten my bolts... never had a tire come off, but always good to check...
:)

At least you don't have a canopy to bang into on the way out!
Glad all worked out and you are well to listen to all of us teasing you:lol:

Nice one WG would love to have seen that! Glad you and the rest of your gear are still ok! I use lock washers on the inside and outside of my wheels. They are the same diameter as where the bolt goes through so there is no pressure on the bearing, haven't come loose once yet!

Drewculous - 16-6-2010 at 12:17 PM

my nuts are good  (just checked lol)

the wheel thing would suck! glad youre ok

The dang locknut wasn't tightened all the way into the poly. I remember when I put those wheels on the alloy bug,I needed to sand down one of the bearing adapters I made. It was keeping the nut from goin all the way down.I just forgot to do it,when Scott aka flyguy0101 said it looked odd. I figured it was in there enough to hold.... Well , I was wrong. Problem is fixed w/ 2 minutes grinding with a flap disc though.
