Lightning Strike

Hardrock - 16-6-2010 at 12:33 AM

I was on break last night sitting in the truck watching a bad storm.
Looked at my watch, and had to walk back thru the rain and crap.

About 20 yrds from the plant door a bolt of lightning hit right off to my right side. I didn't feel anything but was dazed and stunned like someone threw a flash bang grenade in my face.

That was 8 hours ago and my right ear is still ringing like mad. Going to be hard to go to sleep. I've had firecrackers and shotguns go off over my shoulder but this has done a number on my ear drum like nothing else.

Anyway, the weird thing was after I got my wits back (a few seconds) I made it to the door and looked at my watch again. It was blank, no display.

So I don't know if the lightning had anything to do with it but it was working as I started back inside seconds before the strike.

Do you think a close strike could fry a digital watch?

I think it did, but doesn't matter, The ringing in my ear is driving me crazy.

That close of a strike could fry anything, glad you're OK.

PHREERIDER - 16-6-2010 at 05:22 AM

did you get a shave and a hair cut with that?

pokitetrash - 16-6-2010 at 05:49 AM

Yea, you need to come to OOBE Field for the July meet up --that way, the rest of us can stay safe:lol:

You can change your PKF name to "Lightnin'"

Seriously though, glad your OK.

Some people will do anything to get out of paying a bunch of ex wives...

Yikes! Glad you're ok ... we got lightening season coming up too!

Sounds like EMP...

I have seen the effect of 12v AC adapters that were plugged into AC wall outlets be blown across a room from strikes on or near a house.

Glad you are OK. Any new superhuman powers?

.....Able to leap a pile of ex-wives in a single bound...:Ange09:

..."Meanwhile..., back at the Hall of Justice, the Superfriends welcome the newest addition to their Super Family... "ZAPtro!"

Drewculous - 16-6-2010 at 07:01 AM

wow... glad your okay!

Lightning does weird stuff to electronics... very possible it fried your watch... so like angus said... can you fly now?

BeamerBob - 16-6-2010 at 07:28 AM

Makes you wonder why it didn't strike you instead of the ground beside you. Glad you are all in one piece HR.

Hardrock - 16-6-2010 at 09:34 AM

Ha haaaaa,
You guys are too funny, no "new" powers but that may take some time to know for sure.

But yea, I'm fine. It probably wasn't close enough to do anything but send me to wally world for another cheep watch.

Ear still ringing, I hate that, but they say I can't hear anyway.

I know one thing, after Phree's charge on the kite and getting the crap scared out of me, I'll get my butt out of the fields when lightning storms are coming from now on.

Well sweet thang is out there mowing the yard and here I sit. I better go out and watch anyway.:lol:

Sure I'll ask if I can help but she's always got to be doing something. Changed the oil in her car yesterday. The filter was on too tight so I got to help on that one. Amazing that a leather belt is the best oil filter removal tool ever. Even works after you crush it all up with the store bought tools.

Oppps, the mower stopped. Better go get it going before she comes in.

If it doesn't stop you will learn to ignor it. My ears have been ringing for 13 years loudly since a head injury. Only when it is totaly quiet does it bother me now. But I always hear it. This is why I am either whistling or singing when it is quiet. Helps drown it out:crazy:

Sorry to bring this back up to the top. But like you I have had some ringing for a long time also, more now but the other was noticeable at sleepie time.

The windows was open one night as I lay there trying to sleep.

All the sudden I noticed all the crickets stopped singing or what ever they do.

Then I herd them loud and clear again. WTH, is going on out there, I was thinking to myself.

Must be some scary animal or something in the back yard. Then I really couldn't sleep from trying to figure out why the crickets would start and stop every few minutes.

Well,,, come to find out it was me tossing and turning on the pillow. When my good ear was up, I could here them, then when its was down in the feather pillow I couldn't hear them.

How about that. :smilegrin::smilegrin:
Silly but true.
