Kite size to wind ratio

djsquare1 - 25-6-2010 at 01:12 PM

Got a 6m liquid force assault and a 8m Rrd type 4 coming my way. (nocando's old kites)

I plan to do some kiteboarding on the lake.

Usually the wind speed is 5-10 m/s on a decent day, will I be underpowered?

Hi

I don't know about those specific kites and I have no clue how much wind 5-10m/s is.
I use a 7 meter (Best Waroo, Cabrhina Convert and now a Slingshot Rev) when the wind is between 25-35 mph after that I pack up.
I have never used an 8 meter but I'm well powered on a 10 meter around 25 mph.
The 8 might be start to work around 20 mph depending on how much you work it and your size.

EDIT I looked 10 m/s up. Thats around 36 km/h your 8 meter should work for you. At 5 m/s or 18 km/h I can just ride my 14 meter Cabrihna Contra with a big board, but it's not much fun.
I didn't see you were from BC. There's a huge kiting community out there who will probably help you out. I'll pm you the web site.

Hope that helps a bit
