looking for a harness

Flummoxed - 5-8-2010 at 05:08 PM

Somewhat new to kiting.

After flying my 5meter kite for a while my hands start to ache. Thought I start looking for some type of harness to give my hands a break. They dont seem to be cheap... Anyone have suggestions of a low cost harness that I cant use for jumping and later land boarding?

Was looking at a '2009 Liquid Force Comp Harness' thats on sale for $90 at the moment but this website seems to be about kitesurfing.

Ozone & Peter Lynn are the big boys in flying harnesses for land kites. If you're hard up, get a climbing harness off eBay for like $30 ... might cost another $30 or more to mod it for the kite though.

And - welcome!

Check the website again and pay close attention to the headings at the very top of the page. There are links for KiteSurfing, Land Kiting, and Snow Kiting. These links are highlighted on the attached screen capture of the page.

Peter Lynn Base Harness with basic pulley spreader is $90

Think I might go with the Peter Lynn base harness. Guess it wont come with a cord to attach to handles. What should I use for that and would length be just based on what I feel comfortable with?

Thanks for help/suggestions.

Get Running line from the marine store or climbing line about 1/4" and put a stopper knot (overhand) at each end. finished length about 18-26" depending on your size and preference.

If you have loops on the tops of you handles try this

If the tops of your handles have straight pigtails use this...

Lots of great info here

Harness on order, I hope I get some good practice in with it so I'm used to it by the 20th, when I make my way to Hilton Head beach, SC for vacation. Its a pain waiting for wind in Missouri :(
