Looking for a used Mountainboard

LunchLadiesMan - 25-8-2010 at 10:52 AM

I've been hiding in the shadows reading forum posts and reviews for a while now and have decided to give landboarding a try. I originally wanted to get into buggying but that is a bit outside of my price range at the moment.

I've been looking at the GI Patrol 106 (2009) and MBS Comp 90 mountainboards and will probably pick one of those up if I can't find anything used that will work. At this point I am leaning toward the Patrol as I think the trucks on it are better, at least based on the stock configurations. Any opinions on either of those two boards would be welcome as well.

I'm 6ft 2 and 165lbs so I would prefer a longer board.
I'm looking to spend <$300 shipped to NJ.

I've got and AK103 with bionic truks that I'd consider selling. I've been thinking of getting a board with more pop, but the AK103 is a great cruiser!

 ... Kent's not at his computer yet.

Kent at A Wind Of Change has new GI Patrol 106's on clearance for $299... free shipping.

indigo_wolf, yeah A Wind of Change is where I was intending to purchase the Patrol from. They've got the best price on that board I can find.

How about an MBS Core 95? It's a couple years old, but it is basically new as i've never actually used the thing...spend all my time in the buggy. I was thinking $225 plus shipping, or if you make it down to Delaware, I could meet up with you and save the shipping. There's also the Wildwood Buggy Bash coming up in Oct.

I am very pleased with my Core 95 ! Ultra light with lots'O'pop !!! Great bang for the buck. I would jump on this one ! The DEAL and the board !

I think the AK103 may be too narrow for my feet. I've got 12.5 size feet and concerned about my toes or heels hanging off.

How does the MBS Core compare to the Comp build wise? From what I can gather from the MBS website they seem very much alike, but with a few differences in the decks and bindings. The deck stiffness seems to be the biggest difference. I plan to use the board for kiting mostly, so would that benefit more from a deck with a greater stiffness or softer?

Dakitez currently has the comp 90 for $269 with free shipping so the decision is not made any easier at least price wise.

Also, if anyone has a Landboarding DVD (Drill1 or Progression) they would be willing to part with for a reasonable sum, let me know!

I've decided to go with the GI Patrol 106 from a wind of change. Thanks all for the comments and offers.
