XXtreme Bling and a great day!

tdmc96 - 4-9-2010 at 06:18 PM

I had such an awesome day that I just had to share it.:spin:

My day started at 6:00am when my alarm went off.
The first thing I did was reach for my iphone to check and see what the local weather was for Garry Point and low and
behold...it said 24 knots gusting to 30.
I scrambled out of bed and I quickly sent a text to Rip and told him I was on my way.
I picked Ricky up at 7:30 and made sure Grant was on his way.
Rip got into his dry suit and took the charger out on the water and white caps for a little fun.
I flew my small kite (Viper 2.6) and Grant was on his small reactor 2 and vapors most of the day untill about 2:00pm and then, all the one liners came out and the wind started to die off so we decided to call it a day.
I made 42.2 kmh in our little park....coulda gone faster but ran outa room.

I also took some pics of Grants (Coolbreeze) buggy with his awesome looking new rear rims, hubs and tires on.:thumbup:
He left nice tracks on the field but said they bite really nice preventing a lot of side slip.
(The tires are definitely not recomended for grass type fields)

Cheers all!

Where can you source these rims and tires, what name are they called....never seen them before...I will share the photos this side of the pond if thats ok

WIllardTheGrey - 5-9-2010 at 12:31 AM

Those are ATV front tires and rims, looks like Kenda K298 dune runner rib front tires, and SS 112 Sport rims.

I'v been wanting to try that but am stumped on where to get the hubs from.

I imagine on hard packed beach, with enough speed you can ride up on the ridges, creating virtually no drag from the wheels....and on the softer sand, I would imagine a huge amount of grip....no need for any grooves. Never seen these before

good on the lake bed I would imagine

cheezycheese - 5-9-2010 at 01:47 AM

you can find those and others on "tiresunlimited.com". Weldngod gave me a link to a place that has the hubs and other mountable rims. i will try and find it unless he posts it first...

in the soft sand ... they track straight, with zero / min. rear wheel drift.

they also kick up a mean rooster tail in the sand too, awesome.

on the hardpack it run off the blade (less drag) and in the soft stuff cut through it like water.

i really want to bring these to worldcup ... however weight / baggage is an issue.

keep in mind, these are 10" rims but the nice thing is that you have more tire options over the 8" rim.

i cant remember what Grant said the total cost was, but its not cheap but sure worth every penny.

Ni-iiiice!

The wheels would be not as expensive as the custom buggy wheels available but the atv hubs would have to be modified to go on our axles. If we could find a way to mass produce the hubs we would join the buying power of the atv market to get access to nicer stuff at a cheaper mass produced price. They look awesome for sure. Dozens of styles to choose from as well.

you need to get those on the beach!!

ripsessionkites - 5-9-2010 at 11:20 AM

they have 19x7-8, for under 30 bucks :spin: So if you stay with 8" it's pretty darn reasonable. Of course there is a whole new world of other tires at 10"... sure wish we had a set of these to tinker with at sobb ;)

Hi everyone

Thanks for the compliments on the buggy wheels. I just need to say one thing though. Although the theory is there and the tires worked really well in the park I have not tried or test them on the beach. I believe they will work really well and should reduce alot of the speed scrubbing side slip that happens hopefully resulting in more speed. but untill I get thim on a big enough beach its all just a theory.

again thanks for the compliments.

Rip, do I hear a road trip comming? :wee::wee:
