Jekyll Island Alive

acampbell - 8-9-2010 at 06:13 AM

Did Jekyll Last night. Low tide coming in and crowds mostly gone. East winds 10-14 with the 15m Phantom. 4 miles fully lit on a broad reach to the south, past the southern water tower and soccer fields. Speeds in the 30's between the occasional puppy/ toddler alert. Flying north upwind with the lines screaming and the 100 lb Ivanpah edging sideways with huge bar pressure and rooster tails of sand. Couples walking the surf line waving yelling and dancing as I flew by. One guy asleep in his chair with a book in his lap never knew I was there, flying by 20 feet away. Brand new BuggyBags splash guard did a good job fending off chunks of seafoam in the surf line when I took the occasional splash for a cool-down.

Family came down the stairs as I was leaving to see what it was that passed them while driving down Beachview Drive- they could only see the Phantom face above the dunes.

Great Dunes park just south of Bleackbeards is almost done. None too soon for the 7 1/2' wide handicap ramp- the stairs are getting old with the Ivanpah

I get my new NAPKA racing numbers from the signmaker today and will mount them on the side-plates. Pics to follow.

Life is better when it blows!

You paint a very nice picture. Sounds like an epic day. Miss it. Must plan a trip soon before the westerlies kick in.

Wow. 4 miles of 30 plus cruising. That is so awesome that you weren't just kiting but flying the phantom with an easterly wind and passing cars on the highway because they have a speed limit. "What is that and how is it going so fast?"

You've definately got a great place to play Angus. A little slice of buggy heaven:thumbup::thumbup:

I'll be watching the wind....

...with a little south thrown into the east wind I can do a complete shipwreck run. New moon gives a spring tide with huge range and big beach late in the day.

Sounds amazing Angus! I can't wait to get back to JI :)
