Can you help me? WHY??????

cosmo2002 - 13-9-2010 at 09:31 AM

Hi, my name is Carlos Mariano Nunez, im from Argentina, leaving in Buenos Aires.
im 43 years, architect doing some kitebuggy, some mountain-kite-boarding and kitesurfing in summer.

I think Im the first person who fly a Peter Lynn kite here in my country (bought a PL Phantom 15 from Ebay a few years ago). We do not have a Dealer of Peter Lynn or Flysurfer here.

BEcause I love the kite too much, I enter a topic in KiteCrowd looking for a high wind machine and finally bougth a Venom 10 from a guy in USA.
A month ago I bought from Ataud.Verde a Scorpion7 for even more wind to use with my buggy
Miss to buy a Syn 15 from ripsessionkites for some delay to take a decission from me.

Now im in the search for a FS Speed 12 kite, but nobody seems to answer my questions...that the "why"

Have to say that always ask to declare less value in the invoice to avoid some taxes here. In Argentina we have to pay 50% taxes for anything no matter if was used! (the taxes applies to the item cost plus shipping) so If I paid 1000 for a kite plus 60 for shipping, the taxes will be 530  no joke.

So, shut me if I ask you sellers, to declare less in the box...for a USED item.

That inquiery sounds bad? Sounds bad that Im outside USA?
Its difficult or complex to send a big box outside usa? You first get the money via Paypal, dont you?

PLease, help me understand why is so difficult to buy a kite, honestly.

Yes, not many post here or in Foilzone or kitecrown, the few one are mostly in sale sections, but thats is because my english is not fluid as I like to be

If anybody think Im getting mad, the answer is NO, my nosoperfect English is the reason. Im happy with my life and have no reason to get mad with nobody :singing:

Thank you all guys
Carlos

Thats happend to a few other guys on here. I shipped a kite (flysurfer speed 13m) to a guy in Canada and he had to pay a huge sales tax on it. I actually just bought some stuff from australia, so I don't think it is a huge deal to ship to other countries. I think there is so much demand for domestic kites that the sellers just prefer to send to locals. Keep trying, and I bet you'll find the kite you are looking for.

I would also keep an eye on the Used Section of Powerzone KiteSports.

Some Flysurfer Kites are listed there that never make to the For Sale section here (mostly because it would be like a second job to constantly posted things to both places).

Sam

I thought that was what you did wolf?

Carlos,

I believe your question is why USA sellers are not willing to sell a kite to you and why they refuse to declare a lower value? I do alot of purchases over seas and am always taking a risk as a seller and buyer. The laws do not protect us very well when we buy or sell to overseas customers. If we declare a lower value, the insurance does not pay if the package is lost. I understand the tax issue. My home country , vietnam, charges 100% tax on anything I send to my family over there. I am sure many sellers trust that you will pay for the item but they don't trust the parcel service will deliver the package.

Thats right VAN, In my mind I think that most people in PowerKiteForum are from USA and Canada, like most people in KiteCrowd are from England...and Italian in Foillia.it :eureka: but not 100%

..and Yes, If I ask to declare less value I take the responsability in the case of lost. But never lost a single item from the any mail service and I have more than 20 buys from Ebay, 4 from Pansh, 2 from forums and a few more from "Chinavasion"

Hey Carlos! Welcome!

Yes, the problem with marking lower price is insurance ...
... most people mark as 'gift' though - does your customs department (like Japan's ..!) still charge you tax on gifts?

Bladerunner - 13-9-2010 at 05:27 PM

We have very similar issues in Canada however there is a loophole in that childrens toys are not taxed. I'm not sure if your tax structure is the same but you should check. If so the person need only label the parcel toy kite to avoid taxes.

 a 15m Phantom is a kids toy ... oh the pictures in my head :D

Customs guys here hate GISFTs
Its a red flag saying "open me!!! Im a used item really expensive to be a gift!!!!"

no item are tax free here...(ok, only books)
