Sept 16 event posted on Sept 25th? :puzzled:
Whaaaaaaat?!?!?!?
Does anyone have a reasonably priced temporal displacement device for sale?
I would consider the original HG Wells model (as long as the original upholstery is intact).
Or the Delorean model as long as it is low mileage.

How many people showed up? I've kited there a bunch of times but usually the wind is inconsistent or the cops come.
Yea I screwed that up...

Yea I screwed that one up for sure. What I meant of course was Sep 26, but posting on Sep 25 for a Sep 26 event doesnt make much sense either. I was
just back that day from the AWSI Kite Expo in Hood River, OR and wanted to get out and kite so I posted it last minute. Predictably no one showed but
I went out there again today and got some people flying. I do these every weekend and will try to keep it up all winter.
The wind is OK out there and the prevailing wind directions seem to line up with the field well. The cops got on me at EAST Potomac Park but requested
that I just set my kite down for an hour while the choppers flew over. Then I was back up flying.
Today was good with the wind coming on strong just as it god dark. The grass there is really great for Mt boarding and the wind angle was good for
decent tacks. Had a great time! My new Montana 7m rocks and I am sold on the GI Conflict for sure.
I am new to the area and want to spend a lot more time on the coast (water is my true home), so am looking for locals to tag along with.

Last minute isn't a real problem (as I think that's pretty much how the majority of the "DC Area" thread runs).
Knowing that that it is going to be a regular or even semi-regular definitely ups the chances of folks marking the calendar.
Is the DC locale a (semi) permanent move for you until you're back on the boat again?
Last time I was down there, I couldn't even get to West Potomac, police has everything blocked off for some kind of march. Thousands of people
unloading off of buses was a real big hint the day was a write-off.

Sam

Yes, I started my school in Flagstaff, AZ (hence the name Desert Wind Kiteboarding) but things have evolved and locations have changed. I am now in DC
while my wife gets her PhD at Georgetown. A few years for coursework anyway. I am excited to get out to the beach more but I have also found the
kiting to be good here in the city this fall. The police have been friendly to me thus far. I fish in Alaska during the summers--is that what you
meant by "get back on the boat?" But the kiting is amazing out there in Bristol Bay too! 25 sessions out of 40 days including catching 35,000 lbs of
fish too! It was great.
Anyway, I am going to try to be out there doing these free kite clinics every weekend, and maybe midweek as well. So far I have been out there every
day! I met a buggy guy last night as the wind started to rip.
Keep in touch,
Traveler

Yup... fishing was what I meant by "back on the boat." OK... I cheated and looked at the "About Us" link.
Definitely qualifies as a change of pace during the year. Kind of reminds me of Flash and her lighthouse gig. Made for some cool reading.

I shot you an E-mail and look forward to meeting up with you sometime.

A local kiter in DC? Welcome.
I live in Springfield, and was actually on the coast this past Saturday kiteboarding. It was really good. Amazing thermal kicked in and people were
throwing down some great jumps and tricks. Lots of fun.
Shoot me an e-mail (nikey_22 at hotmail), maybe we can hook up one of these days. My car gets pretty packed with gear, and unless my wife decides not
to go, then I don't really have room for another rider, but I'm sure we could do a convoy down to the beach.
There is actually another forum that a lot of the local kiteboarders use. All the land riders local to the area use this forum though. So, if are you interested in land-based riding in the DC area, definitely keep your
eyes on the Meet-Up forum as we normally post there what is going on.
Hope to see you out under a kite soon.
