*Video* Ghost in the machine (a day in the Ivanpah)

Todd - 26-9-2010 at 05:57 PM

Great session in a bumpy field with butter smooth winds blowing NE and the Sony Walkman jamming.

Enjoy.

Great vid and great location:thumbup::thumbup:. You guys bang out video's like a machine:smilegrin:.

Todd - 26-9-2010 at 06:17 PM

Thank you Dean, lots of fun working that Phantom.

bobalooie57 - 26-9-2010 at 06:51 PM

Lovely vid, Todd, but right around 2:20 it looked like the phanny was right out over the road! :shocked2: My luck it would have fallen out of the sky or something.

BeamerBob - 26-9-2010 at 07:06 PM

Nice vid and nice editing too. You guys are getting better at this. Which size phantom is that? The color indicates a 12 or 18? That's not always to be depended on though.

So I've got about 10 hours of raw video, how do I send it to you? :embarrased: jk.

awindofchange - 27-9-2010 at 12:35 AM

That's awesome!!! That buggy looks great too!

Todd - 27-9-2010 at 04:01 AM

Thank you all!

BeamerBob, I had the 18 out for the lighter winds that steadily increased throughout the day. And the raw video, make sure to box it up and send it my way... I'll hook ya up!

Bobalooie, there was times that it has to be over the road not by choice.

Maven454 - 27-9-2010 at 04:12 AM

You seriously need some shock absorbers on the camera... bumpity bumpity bumpity...

Todd - 27-9-2010 at 04:21 AM

No kidding, I think I lost a kidney out in that field somewhere.

shehatesmyhobbies - 27-9-2010 at 05:07 AM

Another great video Todd. Couild definitely see that you were cooking there a few times!

rocfighter - 27-9-2010 at 05:12 AM

Sweet spot Todd, But yeah shocks or lower tire pressure!! Good video as usual though Thanks for sharing.

BeamerBob - 27-9-2010 at 05:46 AM

I just installed bigfoot lites on my Ivanpah. That would certainly smooth out the ride. It "looks" right with the larger tires on it. The tires don't look quite as HOOJ on the Ivanpah as they did on my FlexiLynn buggy. Pics to follow and maybe even some video if I can get the video crew to sit still.

bobalooie57 - 27-9-2010 at 05:58 AM

I understand completely, there are times at my spot that the kite has to be right over the trees, and believe me, I get the willies every time! I've treed my 2M beamer 3 times, only once was nasty, but when ya gotta bug, you gotta bug!

acampbell - 27-9-2010 at 07:58 AM

Love the phantom phace staring at the camera through the kite with the sun behind it. I had my 18 phanny out Saturday with the same effect with the afternoon sun.

DAKITEZ - 27-9-2010 at 09:09 AM

nice video. The wind couldn't have been coming from a better direction for your spot! I bet you get a lot of double takes and rubber necking from those cars going down the road

You ever hop on the road for a speed run?

Todd - 27-9-2010 at 10:02 AM

Thank you for the comments! Funny you mention the road; @ the 4 minute mark you can see the unmarked officer watching us. I have taken a pass on the road and actually topped out at 36mph on that day.

indigo_wolf - 27-9-2010 at 10:54 AM

Zebras are getting shorn right and left to provide kite flying attire.... first Kami's shorts now this. There is trend afoot that I wasn't aware of :wow:

Nice vid as always. That looks like a great location.

ATB,
Sam

Todd - 27-9-2010 at 11:55 AM

Thank you Sam; funny how Rich (shehatesmyhobbies) said the exact same thing about Corey and I looking like a bunch of zebras

Lee - 27-9-2010 at 01:15 PM

Another great video of a great time..........!

WELDNGOD - 27-9-2010 at 05:57 PM

great vid Todd, really bumpy field though. Been busy myself this wknd,in the lab and being the crash test dummy.
Got the kytbyk vid done ,it is uploading now.
How much does that Ivanapah weigh? It seems like it is a tank(I mean that in a good way). Can't wait to try it out.
pretty work as usual.

lunchbox - 27-9-2010 at 09:45 PM

Nice video and tunes...loved the spot...where is it?

Todd - 28-9-2010 at 05:05 AM

Donnie, I think Kent mentioned that it weighed 100 pounds if I remembered correctly; it will be in Wildwood so please give it a whirl. Lunchbox, the spot is in Southern Maryland and that is pretty much all I could say at this point due to security reasons. Thanks for the comments.

acampbell - 28-9-2010 at 05:55 AM

yeah the Ivanpah with wide wheels is about 96 lbs. Makes it tough to transport but rides like a Lazy Boy on railroad tracks.

WELDNGOD - 28-9-2010 at 04:24 PM

That is better than 111 lbs!( my stainless bug)

BeamerBob - 28-9-2010 at 06:02 PM

I keep devising better ways to get mine to its nesting spot on the garage ceiling. Pretty tough to just pick it up and shove the rear axle up to the 10 foot ceiling. I switched around the way mine rides on my hitch rack so I can just back it up to the rack, lift the rear axle into the rack and then stand it up and fasten it in. First rack buggy rode bottom first and now the bottom faces backwards to make it easier to load/unload. Nothing skimpy on the Ivanpah.

Todd - 28-9-2010 at 07:20 PM

Come on Bob we need a DIY Ivanpah storage lift thread with pictures! I'll be wrapping up a DIY front fender thread shortly and you're correct, nothing skimpy indeed.

rdavis - 29-9-2010 at 10:24 AM

Excellent video Todd! Quality work as always.

shehatesmyhobbies - 29-9-2010 at 01:00 PM

Almost time for more video shots! Get the cameras shined up!

That's funny about the fender. I got an official Ivanpah spray guard and left it at home during my journey. I got a garbage can lid and cut out the center section and it seems to deflect almost all the sand that was hitting me in the chest.

When I get all finished with the storage issues, I'll post up.

pokitetrash - 1-10-2010 at 07:15 PM

OK, I officially want an 18 Phantom now to go with my 12 & 15. I'm planning on Phantom-ing all over Wildwood. See you in a few weeks Todd. What was the wind speed that day? It looked like you had the trim all the way in?

I have dibs on Angus's 18m Phanny......................... Wait a minute. What did I just say? :ticking: Like he'll ever sell that one anyway. Lets hope the Phanny IIs are the real deal.

pokitetrash - 2-10-2010 at 11:56 AM

Dude, I refuse to fight over the rights to Angus's Phanny.... Just sayin'.

acampbell - 2-10-2010 at 02:50 PM

My Phannies are safely looked up in the kitemobile. Wait, these guys have trailer hitches. Crap. Gotta find a new Kite Kave
