ASA and the NAST

flash - 26-9-2010 at 06:28 PM

For those of you that do not know, and by the way it's okay if you don't everything is just getting off the ground as we speak, the newly formed American Snowkite Association is in the process of planning the North America Snowkite Tour (NAST 2011). We need the help and support, and all the comments you can throw at us. Once the websites are fully functional I will post them on here, till then please post all comments regarding any snowkite events in North America. What did you like at the last ones? what do you want to see? Do you know of an event that we might not be aware of?

Oh, and as a chica... I would love to hear from other chica's about your race experience or why you haven't raced/competed. I have hooked up with a few other girls to get out there and make a presence, but I want to get the ones that I don't know to be there to.

Love ya!

The annual Tug Hill event in up-state NY will occur Martin Luther King holiday weekend in 2011. More on this event as it is planned. I would love to be involved with the ASA, even with my meager skills. I will follow this thread to stay in touch. Bob

New to the sport but a snowboarder for 7 years, I plan to put the two together and get up to stormboarding 2010 in Feb up in VT. Eager to try my snowboard skillz out with a kite as I think it will help me figure out the ATB as I am MUCH better on snow than on grass/sand.

I am a chica as well and would love to be in the know when any events come to the new england area. Just wish we had more areas around the RI/MA neck of the woods to do this stuff in...
:dunno:

She did say it was newly formed! Good to see some organization in all aspects of our sport.

Wonder if there will ever be a Canadian Snowkiting Association (CSA). Was just on Drift magazine website and read how if one could be formed then there could be a good chance for the tour to go cross both countries? We have tons of open space and frozen lake galore all winter. Winds aren't as reliable in my area though, but when it blows it blows!!!!:tumble:

Feyd - 9-11-2010 at 01:55 PM

Is ASA going to be like AAA? If I blow out a cell, snap a line or loose the wind can I call and get a tow?

What is the maximum tow distance for the basic membership?

If I run out of wind how much free wind will the ASA truck bring to get me going?

Sorry, just kiddin around. Maybe we'll see you at Kitestorm.

Sharpen those edges!

a big race would be the WISSA

i hope that one day snowkiting will be an olympic sport, as it looks promising for 2016 for kitesurfing.

when does the tour start?

im totally against this American / Canadian etc etc etc ... why cant we just be North American. we work better in numbers.

I agree about the splitting up not being good for growing the sport.

For a long time I have been disapointed that power kite sports didn't stay as one . Under one governing body. Like I think it is done on Great Britian.

The 2 bodies that govern here. IKO and PASA do not even think that we are in the same sport. It sort of made sense for land and water to split when the big money was going to the water.

Now snowkiting is taking off and getting big buck support so it is seperating itself from the rest of the land based WPV. Once again leaving the rest of us behind.

I haven't talked about this before because it is far beyond my control . I have a different vision of us as all being part of 1 governing body so we can ALL join together in events .

Wingnuts of the World UNITE !!!!

I agree with both Rip and Blade in that we are much better off as a North American group.

There's a lot of talk around the forums about organization, the snowkite scene going off, and setting standards for snowkiting and other kite activities. For the most part I think it is just that, "talk". But if this is going to go on all winter it's going to make for a long, annoying spell.

There is a strong sense of community in kiting and I think that's great. Nowhere is it more the case than here on PKF. However I think there are some people that are willing to take advantage of that sense of community for their own wants and that really disturbs me.

In regards to joining together at events I don't see why tha's not possible without a governing body. This is all starting to sound a lot more like work than play.

PASA has tentatively agreed to underwrite and insure a buggy / landboard version of their kiteboard instructor certification / student insurance program. It's up to a bunch of laggards to complete the documentation for approval ( I am one of the laggards). It has just been difficult to keep the momentum going. If it does not work with PASA for any reason, I have an insurer that will take it up.

Good job on the ASA. Sorry to hijack but it seemed apropos.

I too agree but then it would be the North American Snowkiting Association or NASA.

I don't think any of you guys get that much air.
