I was scrolling through the pics, and saw one of US123? Anyone we know? Not on mbr list at the NAPKA site.

edit: http://www.pbase.com/waltercarels/KBthu_037.jpg

bobalooie57 - 1-10-2010 at 05:52 AM

well, I tried to link directly to the pic, but it won't work, it is # 37 on thursday.

Bladerunner - 1-10-2010 at 06:28 AM

I'm guessing that is Chris aka Krohn .

Did he place at all ?

NAPKA 55th best club in the World !!! EH !

bobalooie57 - 1-10-2010 at 06:30 AM

Chris lists his NAPKA number as US13? I was just impressed to see a US# there. #55 is Good!

ripsessionkites - 1-10-2010 at 07:56 AM

yesterday, i was 55 based on 3 - 40 mins races.

today we had 3 races, the first one i finished the second i #@%$#!ed my shoulder getting pulled. the third race was cancelled due to extreme gusty offshore winds (but i finally had an advantage because of home turf and NABX).

can you managed at start and technical area you could survive with a 3m to 4m Vapor (6m/s) and on the France (9 to 10m/s) side you needed a smaller kite.

day two I now sit at 54 place.

you guys should be here its insane but the course isnt that difficult to round markers with on 3 to 4 marker to round. however driving from Beligum to France is one long ride.

This shows Ricky's kite up high on the right of the picture. He has a white helmet and bright number plates more in the center of the pic.

His is the red/gray vapor with no white on it.

bobalooie57 - 1-10-2010 at 10:40 AM

Yes, Bladerunner, you are right, it was Chris Krohn, US123, came in 68th, guess he owes Ric!

owes me what?

im at 54 place right now.

the plan is to bring racing clinics to NABX and not to start a debute but you all should know the simple FISLY rules not the Peter Lynn backyard rules. we can always setup to race courses with 10+ pilots and I prove you that FISLY rules work and are to keep you safe.

Maven454 - 1-10-2010 at 01:16 PM

That's what they meant. You're at 54th, Chris is at 68th, thus he owes you your winnings on all the "bets/trash talking" you two were doing.

csa_deadon - 1-10-2010 at 11:27 PM

Here's Ricky, just a little wet! lol

WOW can we help? Let us know. Great idea.

arkay - 2-10-2010 at 12:04 PM

I concur. I've been thinking about races for next year. The ones last year never seemed to get rolling; no phun intended ;)

that tide pool / river sucked ... everyone had to drive though it or the second option was to drive further passed the river however you would be waaaaay behind since the marker was just off to the left side.

i cant understand why we needed a mandatory technical zone markers (normally used to slow pilots down at the start / finish line - easier for the race counters), the damn rivers and tide pools did enough. hehehehe

BeamerBob - 3-10-2010 at 04:54 AM

Tell me I'm wrong but is that front fork on Ricky's world class world championship Apexx Exxtreme buggy actually a Peter Lynn bigfoot fork?

ripsessionkites - 4-10-2010 at 01:24 AM

nope, its my new XXtreme ApeXX BF Fork.

also didnt get time to test the two wheeler here but it will be on home turf in a few days and will be available for riding at NABX.

i come home with more than I came with ... LOL.

i saw lots of new prototypes coming into the market soon, pkd's new race kite looks interesting but doesnt seem fast enough yet. the FS Speeds are dope on the course since you dont need to change sizes too much (this is perfect for you Dino). full report from gear to riding will be coming in the next few days. i have lots to mention about the event.

in the meantime start thinking 2012 - France or the 24hr Race in 2011.

bobalooie57 - 4-10-2010 at 06:35 AM

Why the #change? NAPKA KC88= KC122?, I noticed with Krohn, listed as US13 on the NAPKA site was US123 at WC. Do they assign new numbers there? Does that mean when I get to the World Cup:rolleyes:I won't be able to use my beloved 57?

Bladerunner - 4-10-2010 at 07:22 AM

Seems we should have had you out at mud bay for training Rip" ? Funny how we have similar condtions and SO under use them ? I know the extra long walk and wet sandy gear are enough I need to be encouraged to go out!

I thought You and Chris were racing for " pink skirts " ?

Krohn1999 - 4-10-2010 at 09:15 AM

so here is a quick round up of World Cup from my side.

First off, thanks to everone envolved for making this possible. You have now opened the door for more Pilots in 2012.
As far as the racing goes, it just was not my event. The first race started out good, I wanted to take it easy at the begining and I came in 57th. Ricky got around me on the last lap and came in a couple of places before me.

The second race I took to small of a Kite and didn't do so good.
The last race of the day I got boxed in and as I was trying to figure out how I should get out of it my kite got behind me and a gust took me out the back of the buggy. I landed on my head, and by the time I stoped seeing double the race was over. There is a picture of me getting towed back after the race.

The second day was really Gusty with a huge diffrence in wind from one side of the course to the other. It was really hard to figure out what kite to take. During the first race I got taken out of the sky by another guy right in the wind shadow of an Appartment building and could not get started again. After everyone was passed I ran out to the middle of the course to get started again but it was too late.

The second race was not much better than the first. In the first corner I got taken out again and while getting started I got caught again be a huge gust that threw me about 10 meters. Because I was right in the corner and the main pack was coming closer I pulled my safty and just grabed the kite and got out of the way. I didn't want to mess up the race for somone else. I was ok but the kite was a mess. It took me about 1 hour to get the knots out of the lines.
The third race was called right after the start.

The last day was quiet with no wind. This was good because alot of people were pretty beat up after the day before.

I had a blast and cannot wait for the next chance to try my luck again.

But Ricky, The next time you won't have it so easy!!

Ricky 1 Chris 0
Rematch, NABX 2011!!!

Krohn1999 - 4-10-2010 at 09:17 AM

Oh Ya
I had US123 for racing. They do this so that each number shows up only once. It makes it easier for the judges to keep track of who's who.

Everybody get ready for 2012!!!

Bladerunner - 4-10-2010 at 08:57 PM

Thanks Chris !

I have always wondered about that getting stalled up by a group thing.

On the day that the winds were much different over the course was anybody racing with Arcs or Flysurfers, Depower in general ?

If not. Why not?

Pascal Lohmann was on a Flysurfer. everyone else were one FB's. If I had had a depower with me I would have used it, and I am sure many others also. We just simply didn't have them with.
I never imagined that we would get winds like that so I never even thought of bringing some with.

You got to pass on the info on PKD's new race kite, How did it handle? What size did you fly? Any new designs, colors? What is the problem of it not being fast?

According to PKD they are just getting started with the new race kite and it could take up to a year until it comes on the market.
Lets be honest, there is no reason to bring out any new Race kite unless it can beat a Vapor so don't really expect to see anything new soon (except of course the Vapor with the new Fabric that is now available)
And Trust me Peter Lynn is not just going to sit back and wait for some one else to bring out somthing faster.

Krohn1999 - 6-10-2010 at 09:03 AM

ohya as far as designs and colors it was Blue/Black/White. It looked like a Buster that got streched really long!

bobalooie57 - 6-10-2010 at 09:21 AM

So K1999, in your hands, will the Vapor always beat the Yak GT? curious minds want to know!

No!! There is no kite out there that will fly itself!!
If you have somone that can fly a GT they can be competitive.
The big diffrence is simply that the Vapor is very friendly to fly, but that alone does not put you up front.
GT's, Combats, and Spirits all are great kites with the ability to bring in a win. Each has its strong and weak points. Including the Vapor!! Peter Lynn has just done thier homework very well and brought out an Excelent kite that alot of people are able to fly. This does not mean that everyone should run out and buy one. It is and stays a RACE KITE and you need race kite skills to fly one.
So now I hope you are confused enough!:singing:

good way to put it ... the proto PKD looks small in the sky because of the White trailing edge section, sort of neat idea to confuse the competition. they have a long way to go but it will replace the combat im sure with Michael design skills.

talking to the pro riders on the OZ GTs, most like the old version, its too stable and they also need to size up one to everyone else.

the vapor had some issues in the extreme gusty conditions where the spirit did a bit better especially when hitting that technical passage zone in limited winds. however in no wind everyone just got suck together. LOL.

Vapor has done well in its first season (being PL first race kite on the market), winning all competitions expect in every country with a few missed competitions of course. its been proven to be super fast even for light guys like me and an extra person on the rear, and super duper fast in a straight line. the new vapors come with an even lighter material still making it the lightest race kite on the market.

most of the other brands are in R&D mode right now to design something faster, however so is Michel. I will NOT say more at this time.

any race kite you buy you really need to take the time to know them, tune them and just keep on flying.

Beamerbob, buy my custom Vapors so I can get my new set in Pink / Cherry / Pink.

BeamerBob - 6-10-2010 at 06:12 PM

Sorry Rip, I'll need to acclimate myself to the RIIs in the smaller sizes to see where I stand. I just might be finished buying kites for awhile. Heresy I know.

bobalooie57 - 9-10-2010 at 12:55 PM

well that didn't come out the way I wanted, I think rip's statement said it all!

Very cool to see a race go off like that !

Rip was easy to pick out. Cool how it ends with him heading back upwind.

I can't pick you out Chris? What kite + colour are you flying ?

It is more clear now why Rip' has so much to say about the PKD kites. It looks like they were his main competition in that section of the pack.

As far as aggresive looking goes. I think the Black Libre with the red leading edge looks like it just ate the competition !

best picture ever, first day Jon and I were out on our 16m Vapors while I was infront most of the time (even he was worried if we had light winds that would be my advantage). we werent racing yet just having some light wind fun. however it was short lived as he still remains #1 and I #54. =(

oh the memories.

sunset-Jim - 11-10-2010 at 11:49 AM

Somehow car 54, or more precisely I guess, parakar..t 54 sounds very appropriate :P
