CHICKEN LOOP

kitesurfer - 6-10-2010 at 04:34 AM

I use a 2" steel ring vs a chicken loop and have been since '99. i've always used PL kites. I initially used a regular shackel and then moved to a Wichard shackel. The shackels would sometime release themselves...so i moved to a slingshot spreader bar with a quick release hook. my first slingshot bar broke and they replace it free (at 3 years old) the bar i'm using now is three years old so i think i should replace it before it breaks. but they evidently don't make them anymore. What do you guy use?

Could you post a picture of your setup? I'm interested to see how you did this

i may want to try what you have rigged up....very interesting

What I use

Wichard shackle with a split SS ring TIG welded to it to carry the leash pigtail.

I can unspin the front lines by hand - wish the bearing were smoother. That would require adding a hi-load SS Ronstan swivel or similar and cutting and tigging that to the Wichard. Works fine as is.

All my bars for PL Arcs are rigged with long-throw depower lines and continous loop SS thimbles instead of chicken loops. I can still use the spreader bar hook on this, but also have a spare, clean spreader bar to swap into the harness when using my LEI's with chicken loops.

a quick way to resize , attach to email, it should ask the size you want(med) then place the resized attachment on the desktop and select from there. i'm sure there are others ,thats the just most apparent to me

That depends entirely on what email program you use.

Feel free to email the pics to me (email is in my profile, link is just below this post). I can resize or host the pics and post them.

Otherwise, upload the pics to http://tinypic.com/ and either post links or use the img tags to include the pics in your post.

Sam

If you are on a Windows computer, right click on your picture and select edit.

Once paint opens up, select resize. Resize it to somewhere around 640x480 and you will be good to go.
