Question regarding selling through the site

Skwidward - 6-10-2010 at 09:35 AM

How is it usually done?

I can only imagine transactions are through paypall. Otherwise either the seller or buyer has to trust the other party before receiving anything.

B-Roc - 6-10-2010 at 09:42 AM

Exactly as you mentioned it. All my sales have been through paypal. I've bought a few kites from people I know here via check but that was the sellers preference to avoid the paypal charges.

Seller calls the shots based on their comfort level with the buyer. I'd recommend paypal for the protection of both parties.

indigo_wolf - 6-10-2010 at 09:45 AM

Generally Paypal.

Have done some face to face, cash transactions... none underneath a bridge, and none requiring roof snipers.

It's generally low key and palms up.

Number of lemon transactions has been very low.... basic caveat emptor rules apply, but generally speaking PKF = a fine bunch of wind-addicted reubens.

I've had seller's actually ship first, then forward exact charges, and ask to be paid by personal check, so I got my kite before the seller got paid. Now that's trust, but a trusted seller and highly recommended - kitemaker4!:saint:

Thanks for the replies.

I had a transaction go tits up a while back. I was the buyer and never received the goods. Thanks to paypal, the shipper had to refund me, as he couldn't prove he sent anything.

So how much of a cut does paypal take?

ripsessionkites - 6-10-2010 at 10:59 AM

Credit Card, Paypal and a Blood Sample.

most of the guys on here are great buyers and sellers.

if you're unsure you can always put up a post asking who's who.

Paypal can be done without fees. when you are on the "send money"page, click the "personal" tab and it is free (thanks Dino). I will ship to anyone here on their word before I get paid, except for a few very well known trolls. Just ask around.

I have used the amount of posts by an individual to get a snapshot of whether or not they are a true PKF member or just someone jumping on to sell a kite. Just a thought...but it eases my mind when the person is know on the forum/members here and not just as someone on here to sell a kite. (one or two posts) Not to discredit someone with a few posts...it is just easier to get comfortable with.

BeamerBob - 6-10-2010 at 09:25 PM

I've sold a bunch of kites on here to upgrade or change up the quiver. Mostly paypal for convenience but I've taken checks and money orders when it was the best for the situation. (Money orders make me nervous) I've pointed out to sellers why I've trusted them or to calm them (or their wife) about an internet transaction that this is a community and I or they aren't going to throw away that reputation easily for the sale of a kite or equipment. I always go out of my way to make sure the buyer is getting what they expected and keep the communications flowing. So Txshooter is right that the stealth method of checking post numbers and especially going a step deeper and seeing how they get along with others on the forum will give you some insight into what kind of person they are. Not perfect but at least a glimpse. A blatant post about someone you are about to do a transaction with won't offend a standup seller but will probably get them showered with compliments. This is the most congenial group I've ever run across on any forum.

So.....I have this kite I wanna sell......lol

Nah, I was thinking about selling my kite because it scared me when I went to launch it. I ended up not launching and just packing it back up and having some fun with my trainer kite.

I'm a surfer and have huge respect for the wind. I also follow the rule "if in doubt don't paddle out." The main reason I bottled it was I had no leash, my wife was struggling to hold the 12m lei in a good launch position, I had no idea how this beast was gonna act. So not wanting to just launch, bail, then watch hundreds of $ go flying off down the beach, I bottled it.

Anyway, I've decided to keep at it. I think its good that this scares me.

The trust model and swap meets outdate Paypal and ebay by several thousand years.

And we still use Paypal for a large number of transactions.

Just a troll wolf, ignore it. Be ironic if it's jonesband, saying that you can't trust people selling things on the internet...

Yeah I know.... the irony of trust and trolling under multiple bogus ids struck me enough to post, when I normally would have ignored it.

Posts reported and hopefully PKF will expunge them all later this afternoon.

You know your forum is doing something right when it gets it's own personal troll.

Exactly.

It's sometimes a little embarrassing what I have to do in order to get traffic. After all, how long can people read the same damn forum posts over and over. Thanks for your support.

Bwahahaha... Oh jonesy, if you truly felt like us claiming you're a fraud meant that you were doing something right, you wouldn't be so upset about us pointing out your fraudulent rip off ebay "deals".

PS You'll note that I said troll singular. When you have hundreds of people, it's because you're doing something wrong.

Yeah, so when we were inhabited this morning, I took the time to go fly! Wind was 8 g-15 or so, started with the 3.5M Imp, not quite enough, so I went to the 4.8NPW for the grunt, and found even it was lacking. I picked up a 5M "ikitesurf" (China-kite) kite from DaKitez(something they sent him to demo, I don't think he's selling them) for a very low price, and haven't really had the chance to fly it much, so I took it out for a try. When I got it, it came with the typical stretchy lines and teeny handles, which I switched out for a set of HQ lines/handles. At launch, the kite handled O.K., but tended to overfly zenith in the gusts. I landed and shortened the brake leaders by an inch or so, to give me a little more brake control, and the tendency was much less. I buggied for a while with it, but the gusty wind tended to try and lift me out of the seat at times, and I was getting hungry, so i stopped for the day. I'd have to say it might turn out to be a decent kite in smoother wind, for the price! I came back to find the community all cleaned up! What a great place!
