Power Kite Forum

The final countdown begins!

shehatesmyhobbies - 6-10-2010 at 12:47 PM

Only two weeks left boys and girls! Hope you guys are making a list and checking it twice. I personally am getting ready to go start polishing up my rear axle and finish putting my foot straps on. Then need to get some extra bearings in my bag!

I am not going to be able to get any real sleep for the next two weeks. The only thing on my mind will be that sweet beach, great winds, wild rides, and a great time!

I AM STOKED! Can't wait to hit the road!

Maven454 - 6-10-2010 at 12:51 PM

I need to pull my buggy out of my trunk and check the tire pressure.

P.S. I've got 5 spare Ozone key chains if anyone who'll be at WW wants one.

lad - 6-10-2010 at 01:32 PM

I will be hobbling in sometime or another. I broke a toe (or two) in a dimwitted hiking mishap last month.

Maven454 - 7-10-2010 at 05:14 AM

By this time in two weeks, I'll either be just showing up or very, very close to WBB!

flyguy0101 - 7-10-2010 at 06:15 AM

Still on the Fence- I am thinking of coming to hang out but not sure i can trust myself not to fly (doctors order no flying til next spring) Dont want to risk screwing up the knee again. If I show up on Friday- anybody have a floor i could crash on? (obviously will help on room cost)

On a side note am heading out tonight for a cast and Blast tommorrow (fishing and duck hunting while floating down the New river):wee::wee:

rocfighter - 7-10-2010 at 11:39 AM

We will be there thursday evening if the NEW CAR makes it. Yes folks I finally made the deal of the century and bought a redneck new car(means it's new to me) Great shape and half of book value WOO HOO!!

doublespeed360 - 7-10-2010 at 05:44 PM

will that car tow that trailer /buggy stuff?

rocfighter - 7-10-2010 at 06:00 PM

No this is a kind of car and truck combined. So it will just be the car and us two this time. Between the back seat and the bed we can get it all in.

Maven454 - 8-10-2010 at 02:34 AM

So... either you found an old Camino or it's a Subaru Baja?

Maven- I'll take a keyring if you still have em at WWB

Maven454 - 8-10-2010 at 04:17 AM

I'm down to four (gave one away to indigo_wolf on that trivia question yesterday), but I'm sure I'll still have some and you're the first to say you want one. Once I can order my quiver of Methods, I'll have another five spares .

Todd - 8-10-2010 at 04:24 AM

Jim, sign Corey up for one if you don't mind. Thanks.

Maven454 - 8-10-2010 at 04:34 AM

Done. Three down, two left.

cheezycheese - 8-10-2010 at 05:03 AM

I still have a barrel of cheezeballs from 9/11. That will be my contribution to the BBQ... :tumble:

bobalooie57 - 8-10-2010 at 06:02 AM

I'm planning on smoke roasting a pork shoulder over the weekend, then pull it apart for a big pot of pulled pork to throw in for one of the nights festivities! Mmmmmm, pulled pork!:piggy: Hope no-one minds jalapenos!

Maven454 - 8-10-2010 at 06:15 AM

I'm in for a couple of 24 packs of beverages.

chudalicious - 8-10-2010 at 06:20 AM

MMM.... jalapenos and beer? Kiting sounds delicious:yes:

cheezycheese - 8-10-2010 at 07:31 AM

Anybody know what train runs down there...?

Maven454 - 8-10-2010 at 07:36 AM

The Crazy Train?

Todd - 8-10-2010 at 08:07 AM

Looks like NJ Transit has a station down there.

Schedule

Trains & Buses

frangram - 8-10-2010 at 09:54 AM

Buses run to Wildwood from AC. You can connect from NYC to AC
There are buses and trains to AC from Philadelphia. The bus station is close to the train station. A train does run from NYC to Ac but it goes through Phila., a bus would be faster. If you wanted to pick someone up in AC it is about a40 min. drive from Wildwood.

pokitetrash - 8-10-2010 at 10:47 AM

Hey, this is probably posted somewhere but never having been there, can someone post the location where we'll make camp, access the beach (street name for GPS) , etc? Looking at Google Earth, theres a zillion side streets going to the beach it looks like.

Thanks!

Getting wound up now! Been driving my buggy around in the back of my truck all week hoping for time/conditions to hit the ripstop. Didn't do much over the summer.

Todd - 8-10-2010 at 11:45 AM

Just shot you an u2u PKT so you can keep up with the latest wind reports and set up locations.

General set up goes like this:

Wind blowing SE and NW we'll set up right off the shore from the Shalimar Resort which is located off E Rosemary RD

Winds blowing NE SW We'll head up to E 1st Ave. and park along the wall.

Call me if you have any questions.

shehatesmyhobbies - 8-10-2010 at 11:56 AM

Are we their yet?

Come on BB!

I am going to need a sedative to make it till then!

WELDNGOD - 8-10-2010 at 04:02 PM

I have ALOT of work to do before I can go. I have to build something that takes 2 welders a wks worth of control welding and 3 days of grinding to clean up for paint. And now I have no help ,cause they sent my mate downriver to the ship. So I gotta do it all. 7 days a wk, 10 hrs a day until it is complete.
And when I get home I have a project in the garage..

I can't wait to go buggyin w/ everybody, and get some rest:wee:

shehatesmyhobbies - 9-10-2010 at 07:51 AM

Another project Donnie? Like a mad scientist down there!

cheezycheese - 9-10-2010 at 11:25 PM

Things just keep getting better and better:)

shehatesmyhobbies - 10-10-2010 at 05:49 AM

We have one coming with us as well! Should be plenty of pics and video to consume after this bash!

WELDNGOD - 10-10-2010 at 03:56 PM

I'm not so sure I am gonna make it now. I was going to stay at the shalimar, but they want a $250 "credit card authorization" upon check in. My maxxed out credit card has been cut up. Now ,I only use my debit card. And that will be almost depleted by the time I pay fof 4 nights lodging, fuel, tolls at the CBBT, food , the lewes ferry. There just is not enuff dough left. I need to find decent ,affordable lodging or I'm out.

kteguru - 10-10-2010 at 04:03 PM

u2u sent WG.

Todd - 10-10-2010 at 04:03 PM

Maybe shack up with someone? I can call Maria tomorrow and see if I can work something out with the CC deal.

u2u as well.

Maven454 - 11-10-2010 at 03:22 AM

In two weeks time... WBB will be over :(:(:(:(:eekdrull:

shehatesmyhobbies - 11-10-2010 at 09:07 AM

We haven't even gotten to WW yet, don't think about it being over yet! In those few days, we will make enough memories to last to the next bash, Not to mention the trips there in small groups till spring arrives again!

Com'n Maven, turn that frown upside down!

shehatesmyhobbies - 11-10-2010 at 05:08 PM

Right on Donnie!

Maven454 - 12-10-2010 at 04:18 AM

Next week...

rocfighter - 12-10-2010 at 04:48 AM

Maven don't spend your days before they come. That is how young people get old. LIVE IN THE NOW!!!!

Maven454 - 12-10-2010 at 04:50 AM

If work didn't suck at the moment... that'd be more tempting. But right now, I wish it were Friday. Or at least quitting time.

shehatesmyhobbies - 13-10-2010 at 10:53 AM

7 days to go! Almost can't stand the wait! Got my fingers crossed for some great winds! Can't wait to see everyone!

ragden - 13-10-2010 at 11:19 AM

i'm resisting the urge to start looking at wind forecasts... 7-days out tells you nothing definitive... But i'm itching to get up to Wildwood.

Todd - 13-10-2010 at 11:29 AM

7 days from now I'll be coming off the beach after a full day

rocfighter - 13-10-2010 at 03:21 PM

Maven I baught a 2003 Chevy S-10 ZR5 crew cab. Looks new in and out. But high miles so I got it for $4,900. Book on it with the milage is almost $10,000. A local family needed cash for some bills. Now I need to sell the Bonneville:no: I will miss that car.

Maven454 - 13-10-2010 at 03:23 PM

So it's a crew cab, very light pick-up. Yeah, I can see how that could be considered a car/truck combination.

rocfighter - 13-10-2010 at 05:13 PM

It's just for moving kids and grandkids mostly. But used it for the dump this morning. I have the ford F450 deully platform dump 4WD 9ft plow 460 5speed for working.

frangram - 14-10-2010 at 11:15 AM

Blokarting in Brigantine Sat morning, Low tide 9:30 AM. 15-25 MPH wind predicted out of the NW, which is a good direction.

That should warm me up for Wildwood, we were doing 38 MPH on the beach 2 weekends ago.

Todd - 14-10-2010 at 11:21 AM

Way to go Fran

shehatesmyhobbies - 14-10-2010 at 12:22 PM

Good deal Fran, can't wait to see your crew in WW! Sending good winds to you till then!

shehatesmyhobbies - 14-10-2010 at 01:06 PM

I feel like a kid, you know about a week out from Christmas, watching all the xmas shows on t.v.just waiting for xmas morning!, Sitting her just watching video after video, watching the wind blow in the trees, only talking about flying, and getting to WW. I think you were right Rian, I need a pill to calm me. I think I may have a problem! At least it's a good one! You might think I never leave my house!

bluefunelement - 14-10-2010 at 01:08 PM

Ok - so I'm new to WWBB although I'm sure I'll recognize many from Nahant, NABX, etc
Can someone point me to the correct info for where to meet and greet?

I posted this earlier.

General set up goes like this:

Wind blowing SE and NW we'll set up right off the shore from the Shalimar Resort which is located off E Rosemary RD

Winds blowing NE SW We'll head up to E 1st Ave. and park along the wall.

Most everyone is crashing at the Shalimar Resort and info can be found here. Link

Dean has graciously dedicated time to make name tags if you didn't catch that thread and it can be found here. Link

Call me if you have any questions I shot you a U2U with my number.

I'm sure the Shalimar will be a hit, I know my gear is ready for that place!

bobalooie57 - 15-10-2010 at 08:26 AM

The forecast for this area next Wednesday night includes the possibility of SNOW!!! Imagine coming home from Wildwood to some fresh snowkiting? (Dreaming)

kteguru - 15-10-2010 at 08:41 AM

Now you've got me checking forcasts Bob:yes:. The Wildwood/Cape May bouy is showing 28mph from the west for today:wee::wee:. Lets hope it shifts around to the south/southeast/east for next week so we can all play with those race kites:smilegrin:. Looks good for us though Silvereagle. Tuesday afternoon says 22 from the south:wee::wee:

Todd - 15-10-2010 at 10:41 AM

chanting for the SE BABY!!

shehatesmyhobbies - 15-10-2010 at 01:08 PM

ditto for SE!

kteguru - 15-10-2010 at 01:24 PM

I'm chanting for either south or east myself. Having a cross shore wind gives us an upwind and downwind run where we can really stretch the legs on all the race kites that will be in attendance:wee:

shehatesmyhobbies - 18-10-2010 at 05:52 PM

Well I can only hope that everyone must be doing that one last run through their gear bags, checking all their kites, packing up to hit the road. The post have really slimmed down! In less than 48 hrs I will be in WW ready to hit the beach! Not many post from me except to let you know we are on our way. Lots to do in a little bit of time. Tomorrow is going to be one busy day!

Till then Brothers and Sisters!

It's almost time to get it on!
See all of you soon!

Todd - 18-10-2010 at 06:28 PM

No kidding, packed the car and ready to rock! Time flies and I'll be on the road tomorrow at noon, no matter the weather because fun will happen in Wildwood.

Todd - 19-10-2010 at 06:14 AM

Loaded and 2 hours 47 min to go..... then I'm out of here. LostFox1 parked and loaded to the left.

:roll::wee::roll:

Maven454 - 19-10-2010 at 06:18 AM

The car looks funny without 50 million stickers on it.

Todd - 19-10-2010 at 06:26 AM

Are you saying you'd rather see my rear

bobalooie57 - 19-10-2010 at 06:39 AM

You know, I really need to get one of those. When I first started buggying, I hoped people would ask me about "that thing hanging off the back of your car", but that's gotten sort of tiresome, especially when I'm in a hurry somewhere so now when someone asks if it's "one of them parachute airplane things" I usually take a deep breath for the long winded explanation followed by a "Yup"....

That's exactly why we made them, imagine going down the road while every vehicle passing stares at the buggies. On the flip side is my sponsors web address, bonus in advertising!

pokitetrash - 19-10-2010 at 07:49 AM

I want to clarify and say, I REALLY love to talk to folks about the sport but after doing it for awhile we all get a sense of who's interested to learn more (and I gladly teach) and who is just mesmerized by the different shiny "thing". You know the type:yes:.

Wildwood wind & direction looks good.

frangram - 19-10-2010 at 08:58 AM

This a forecast I find pretty reliable especially when it shows stronger wind.

http://www.weather.gov/forecasts/graphical/sectors/northeast...

I will be bringing some leftover Spring Break Buggy Blast shirts to sell. This your chance to look like you are a experience Power Kite person and you been to Ivanpah without the airfare.

silvereaglekiter - 19-10-2010 at 09:54 AM

on the ferry now :D

WELDNGOD - 19-10-2010 at 09:57 AM

see ya tomorrow Nick!

bobalooie57 - 19-10-2010 at 10:25 AM

Got up early this am to smoke-roast a 10 lb. pork shoulder to make pulled pork for Sat.? maybe? The smell permeated the neighborhood all morning!:piggy: Just took it off, and it's fallin' apart done, and my, my, I smoked it in Kingsford-mesquite briquettes, with some soaked hard-maple branches, and without any seasoning is very, very tasty! Hope it meets the SOFKA boy's approval!
