Flysurfer setup

shaggs2riches - 12-10-2010 at 11:12 AM

In anticipation to receive my 12m speed 2 that I don't expect will arrive for at least 2 weeks or more, I'm looking for some videos on the setup and tuning. I want to have a good understanding of how the soft/hard steering adjustment works as well as using the FDS that I am having installed. After reading through the manual online I still would like to see it on video. Does anyone know of videos that they can recommend showing a complete setup to launch in various situations??

Thanks
Shaggs

Foolproof all wind condition launch... Roll out kite downwind.. Straighten out lines crosswind.... Walk 45degrees upwind pull on downwind outside line to raise wingtip... tip will rise and kite will start to fill, walk to tension lines as needed and up it goes......
In super lightwind pull more on the centerlines to raise the intake vents to fill....

Flysurfers are the easiest launching kites made....

Landing, lightwind.... Grab the outside line balls, backstall it to the ground....Unhook...
keep hold of the upwind line and let the bar and others go... walk the upwind line to kite and secure....

Landing w/ fds = tangles....

Highwind I land the same, just that I run down the line holding (hand over hand) to the kite and secure...

Wheres it coming from that it takes 2 weeks to get there???

this is awesome thanks guys!!! Just spent some time sitting on vimeo watching many videos. Looks similar to peter lynn arc launch. @ Borntofli I bought the 12m speed 2 from tridude had it sent to powerzone so that FDS can be installed and the kite tuned. From there it could take as much as two weeks to ship to me through customs. Not that I'm too worried, won't be able to have the time to fly till then anyway. Thanks for the support fellas.

What fabric is the 2.5, white, red, or black?

Shaggs the biggest difference you will see I think are the connections with the metal rings and grommets. When I get mine out I can see if I can shoot a video of that stuff for you if you need it.

I took this video of my final launch of the 17... Wind was 10-11 mph.... I preinflated the tip just a little by opening a pressure relief strip on the kite.....

I found that I need to make sure the tips are inflated on the S2 19M before flight. The other day I launched it in 12mph wind and the center inflated but ends were flapping in the wind along with the bridles which made it very difficult to steer.

With the Pulse it requires very little pre-inflation because it is lower aspect ratio.

I agree that the 5th line is not for the usual landing. It is a mess when there is high wind and you release the chicken loop on to the 5th line. It folds the kite in half but then the kite make a motion like a swimming fish. 5th line is good though for if you want to just kill the power of kite in an emergency. I get an assisted land most often.

I started a thread about mixer here.

I never pre-inflate - bloody waste of time. If there's enough wind to fly, it'll launch just fine. I tend to sheet in and insist that it backstalls and parks like, 60 degrees off the ground until it's fully inflated so that it's not flying to the zenith without full steering control. But you can control it fine, you just gotta whale on the bar some and be more predictive to it's reactions.

Backstall landings  we got lots of sticks on our beach for a stake. Or unhook and get someone to hold the rear leader balls. Or what BTF said.
