Trade 10m Charger for 10m Synergy ?

Bladerunner - 18-10-2010 at 06:47 PM

I am thinking I will be happier with a 10m Synergy ? I would be most happy with a blue and yellow to match my 15m.

If anybody has a 10m Syn in good shape that was looking to trade up to a Charger I can entertain the thought .

BeamerBob - 18-10-2010 at 06:51 PM

I have the kite you want but I'm not sure I want the charger. I like the turning speed I have and the autozenith with the synergy. Is this (autozenith and stability) what you want that the charger isn't so well suited for? My syn is like new and the colors you are looking for. I was actually looking forward to meeting up with you on Ivanpah while flying it.

Bladerunner - 18-10-2010 at 07:02 PM

Yes, I am sure I can get used to the amped up turning and twitchy nature of the Charger. I have never owned a 10m arc other than this one but if the 2 15m's I have are an example I can't help but think I would enjoy a Syn / Venom II in 10m more ?
I'm kind of in love with yellow blue black combo so getting a 10m in that set would influence me for sure.
I would love to just get my hands on a 10m Syn / venom to know I'm right in my feeling but would hope to do it for snowkite season. If I knew, I would sell and re-buy assuming I could find one?

Tell you what, we'll meet at NABX . Race on Coyotes, winner takes ALL :P

BeamerBob - 18-10-2010 at 08:33 PM

I would consider a switch to see if we both could get along with the other kite. If you aren't in a hurry we can do it at Nabx 11. But just to be clear................. that race is ON. Wait, I get to ride my buggy...... Right? You can't find size 14 coyotes anyway.

I am not in a rush to make this trade. It will be good for me to more time in on the 10m Charger. I am just getting a feel for if anyone would would want to make such a trade. If somone was excited about the idea and had the yellow blue combo I expect I would be motivated to do it.

BLADERUNNER, i see you have the Charger 15 and the Syn 15. can yu compare the two?

Bladerunner - 30-10-2010 at 09:46 AM

I am not a young or super aggressive rider. I like to jump and float .

The 15m Charger is what they advertised. Faster turning and faster accross the window. I'm not so sure that the stiffer profile is creating any greater low end for me?
The two things that my Synergy offers that better suit my style are:
If I initiate a big move there is a slight dely. A chance to cancel or soften the command. The Charger is quicker to respond.
If I end up losing it and let go the Syn will find it's own way to the edge and then zenith. The Charger needs more attention. It searches for zenith far more aggresively.
It feels like the Syn is forgiving while the Charger will make me pay for mistakes. At my age I prefer to pay the seniors price for mistakes !

Folks ( the majority ) who were after a more aggressive kite will like the Charger . The extra speed isn't as threatening to me by any means on the 15 the way it feels on the 10m! I'm O.K. with my 15m Charger, it's the 10 I am having second thoughts about.

I still think PL made a mistake not holding on the the Syn. It and the Charger are truly different.

rudeboysaude - 30-10-2010 at 11:12 AM

I agree. I wish PL still offered a few options in the ARC line. One kite does not suit everyone's needs. I still love the old 10.5 Bomba for crazy stuff. Slow, little lift.

One day I was on my 19 Charger, my buddy on his 15 on water. My buddy had a 10M he had never even flown feeling fine on the 15. He put it up just to fly it, neither of us expecting him to ride. It was maybe 15-20. Sure enough, he was on the water moving. He weighs 50 pounds less then me, so I asked to try it.. the hell, I was staying upwind as well. Lots of work but riding. it lead me to believe that a smaller guy that likes to throw the kite around might be fine with a 10M in normal winds instead of the high winds we'd think to fly it in. We had 3 sizes of Chargers out that day. 19,15,10 all of them giving us rides.

If you keep it, I'd try flying it in more winds you'd fly your 15 in and see if you like it. Can't blame PL for maxing performance targeting the Ferrari crowd, but alot of PL kiters are Cadillac cruisers. The charger is a good example of how you can add one thing to a kite, but might have to take something else away. Hard to make one perfect kite that offers all to everyone. The Charger and Syn are certainly different and I was bummed when it went away too.

ripsessionkites - 30-10-2010 at 12:00 PM

maybe we can do a small production run on the SYN. ill have to ask.

Bladerunner - 30-10-2010 at 03:38 PM

Yes, the one thing I like with the 10m Charger is that it just loves to be spanked around. Rewards you with it's own speed. While I don't have 1st hand experience I have to expect the 10m Syn will also respond to good whipping ! While I have enjoyed working out a ride that way I have too many kites to be " making it work " when I could possibly be eaking out some airtime from a larger kite.

My biggest thrill in this game is the floaty jumps. I want to be on the 15's until I need to drop to the 10. At that point I think I am moving in to survival mode more than chasing even higher more aggressive jumps ? If I do go for it and mess up , this is when I'm a bit conerned about the Chargers hunting tendancy? :dunno:

Presently I am thinking I will prefer to buy a 10m Syn. Compare and then sell the Charger If my choice is correct? :puzzled:

rudeboysaude - 30-10-2010 at 05:48 PM

I've never really got floaty jumps out of a 10M PL anything but I'm a bigger guy and used to riding larger kites so could be turning it too quick.

I say keep them both! In response to your other thread on when is it right to sell a kite? Never if you can help it. It should only be allowable if it's to buy more kites when budget is low and even then at some point down the road, you'll regret it.

canuck - 30-10-2010 at 05:58 PM

Hey BR you can compare your 10m Charger to my 10m Venom I (blue & yellow) at Christmas. Hope the conditions work out.

Woodland - 3-11-2010 at 06:07 PM

I recently traded "up" to a 15M Synergy from a 10M Synergy and can attest that whipping that puppy around got me going in some light for the size conditions. It is one fast kite. I miss it a ton actually. Don't get me wrong, the 15 is el primo, but holy crap that thing is big. It looks like the 10M is more in demand than the other sizes recently. I am actually looking to pick one up to replace the traded one. Perfect 2 kite quiver for me. Good luck in your search BR. If I find one, I'll buy it and then keep my eyes open for the rest of you searching.

Kamikuza - 3-11-2010 at 06:10 PM

"That thing is big"
After flying my 16 Crossbow and the 19 Speed2 a lot, going to a 15 (or even the 19) Synergy and I'm all like, "Dude who stole my kite? Why is there a handkerchief on the end of my lines"

Rip, I have asked that question twice and I know Angus has as well. I've never gotten a response from it and I'm not sure Angus has gotten a positive one. They could even call it a different name for marketing reasons, but a limited run of synergies would be awesome. I like mine so much, I'd fill out the range with a 19 and a 12m just to have the right kite in most any winds I'd ride in.

cant discuss the future but there is a lot instore for 2011 season nor production either. there are prototypes are floating around all over the place. hehehe.

also im going to be cleaning out someone's closet next week so stay tuned.

Maybe they could do a small production run on the Phantoms, too...

BeamerBob - 4-11-2010 at 02:38 PM

The office changed hands after the phantom stopped production and the plans are gone. Protos for the Phantom II exist with no reports of progress, but its a start from scratch project.

The synergy should be a piece of cake to just start up production. Even on preorders should generate a good revenue that probably wouldn't cannibalize charger sales. It would be a safe venture to make a small run to gauge demand.
