New 12 step program being formed

flyguy0101 - 15-11-2010 at 03:00 PM

I was talking with my assistant this afternoon and upon hearing of my most recent kite purchase (for my son:rolleyes:). She decided that i need help with my toy addictions, so I have developed the "new" steps for all of us that Suffer from failing to grow up.

1. Admit that you want this, that and every size and model.
2. Came to believe that there are weather gods- for wind, rain, and Snow.
3. Made a decision to behave appropriate to the weather gods.
4. Made an excel spreadsheet of our abundant list of toys.
5. Admitted to our spouses, that we need a bigger house for storage.
6. We promise that we will share our toys with friends, in hopes of indoctrinating another to our ways.
7. Humbly ask the weather gods to provide for us.
8. Made a list of all our unused toys and agreed to sell them. (to your new indoctrinated friends)
9. Made amends to all people that we let down because the wind was blowing or the river was running.
10. Continue to play hard and upgrade equipment as needed, but always with the idea that for every new item in- one must be removed.
11. Sought through practice and fellowship with others to better our abilities.
12. Having a spiritual awakening as a result of these steps, we hopelessly read forums as we wait for a chance to play with our friends, instead of working.

Hi my name is Scott, and I refuse to stop playing

Well, actually what I mean is that I can quit buying equipment anytime I want. As part of my program, I'm actually pretty content right now. To make further purchases, I'd need to come across Phantoms to complete the set of one I've started or the Phantom II come out and it turn out to be the mutt's nuts. I'll make a full confession at that point. I have an order in for an 8m Neo II for my older son. Does that count?

Hello, I'm Bob and I'm hopelessly addicted to buying kite equipment. I forgot about my recent quest to actually have more safety equipment than my hardshell skate helmet. It'll never end.

flash - 15-11-2010 at 04:48 PM

hi my name is Nic, aka. flash and I have a problem. I will go to extraordinary extremes to fuel my addiction. Be it driving all night through a blizzard in Utah to get to the playa, sleeping in the back of my car so as to save cash for another piece of gear.... even if it is 20 below outside, offering free beer for passage to an event that I will undoubtedly be skunked at. etc... Of course... there is always the fact that I routinely find myself posing naked to raise funds for my addiction. sigh.....

Somehow this feels exactly like my wintervention addiction. (warren miller ref!!)

shehatesmyhobbies - 15-11-2010 at 05:25 PM

Hi! My name is Rich! I have sold many toys to support my addiction! I think about wind, kites, buggies, and this forum all day and all night. When home I talk about baseball, or kiting! It drives my wife nuts! (hence my PKF name) Kiting is in me forever, and I only hope that I can get more people addicted! I will not pose naked for money for this hobby like Flash! But I don't think anyone would offer me that anyway!

I refuse to stop playing, and I refuse to grow up!

Bladerunner - 15-11-2010 at 05:36 PM

The Serenity prayer for kiters!

God give us the grace to accept with serenity the winds that can not be changed. Courage to challenge the winds that should be challenged and the wisdom to know the difference .

bigkid - 15-11-2010 at 05:56 PM

My name is Jeff, I'm a big kid. I had to start a kite business to support my habit. Now I support both my sons and all 7 grandkids in their addiction. Will someone help me out?

"Classic" just doesn't cover this. You just popped this off the top of your head or been thinking about it for awhile?

shehatesmyhobbies - 15-11-2010 at 06:27 PM

Thanks Donnie!

Ditto here Jeff!

Taper123 - 15-11-2010 at 06:43 PM

I'm not a wind addict... they go to meetings. I go to the beach, lake, field... with my buggy, mountainboard, kiteboard, revolution kites, stunt kites, flowforms, sleds, delta conynes, box kites, and yes... power kites.

labrat - 15-11-2010 at 07:21 PM

I could resemble that remark. But I guess I’m too new and busy to qualify for the program.

The wife is sick of PKF though, so I must be off to a good start.

dylanj423 - 15-11-2010 at 09:40 PM

12 step programs are only for people who want to quit, i thought... having been sober for 5 1/2 years through 2 other 12 step programs, i think ill pass on this one....

i dont ever wanna quit flyin kites :)

doublespeed360 - 16-11-2010 at 06:39 PM

i'm with you bladerunner.

rocfighter - 17-11-2010 at 04:24 AM

I think I must realy be an addict. I make up excusses to go to the field. And I say to Sandy " Honey call all the kids and lets see if any want to go to the beach for a day of sun and fun. We'll bring the grill and have a whole day of it with lunch and all the goodies. And then we can spend the day with them and the Grand kids it'll be great.
Sheagrees this is a great idea. Untill she sees me hooking up the trailer and loading up the buggies on the back!!

nocando - 17-11-2010 at 05:00 AM

The only steps I shall be taking will be more addictive tendancies, kites and more big steps to the playa in march

rocfighter - 17-11-2010 at 06:12 AM

Flash where does one get a gig posing naked for money? I'm sure there must be someone that wants to see a long haired long bearded skinny near 50 going grey guy posing
I know it's sooo wrong. But I need some new kites!! Honestly I'm not sure I want to see me naked! :moon:

rocfighter - 17-11-2010 at 06:15 AM

Hey we should make a sexy kite fliers Calander. Like the fireman ones but with less sexy!

rocfighter - 22-11-2010 at 05:30 AM

I think I left every one speachless with my posing naked comment. I know even I threw-up in my mouth a little bitt :megan:

PHREERIDER - 22-11-2010 at 07:18 AM

disease level ... by far cheaper than therapy and much more effective.

strung out on phunjunk gives me phreedom,

pheeding on the elements to satisfy the insatiable,

the madness of the eternal 8 yr. old.

Seanny - 22-11-2010 at 03:35 PM

Sounds great and all, but number 10 I don't think I could do! :)

Cheers,
Seanny

rocfighter - 23-11-2010 at 09:07 AM

Yeah # 10 would be tough,
remember, he/she who dies with the most toys...
IS DEAD!!
Have fun every one.
