Nice job. Any more background? I saw your facebook post but didn't understand it at the time.

Did you make or fly the kites?
How much of that is CG and what is real?

Nice Snow kiting Video....

Mike Dennis & Pam Kirk made two, Blake Pelton made two, and i made two. New Tech made 48.

There is very little CG used in the production, though there is a bit of plating to make it look like more being flown at once.

We shot over 20 hours of film over three long days.

There were five kite flyers on the team: Blake, Tim Elverston, Ruth Whiting, Craig Wilson and myself.

The production crew were very attentive to details about kites and always wanted our input to make sure that there was a level of authenticity throughout the production.

While we were not able to actually fly the kites for the majority of the production(no wind, thank goodness) the final scene of the kites in the tree was real. Blake and i flew kites above the tree then let them crash into it.

Here's a video that Blake made that shows more about making the commercial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3v7hY-yD3Zg

You spend all your life trying to keep your kites out of trees and then one day, you get asked to do just that.

When you were as knee deep in alligators as we were, you don't have a whole lot of down time.

We did not call or look up a whole bunch of folks, just didn't have the time.

We assembled a crack team of fliers all with past commercial experience to do this. This is about my 6th or so time making commercials so i'm starting to get the hang of it, but still have plenty to learn.

I've now been the lead kite wrangler in more productions than i can count, yet they are still far and few between and blow my mind each time we get another one.

I've been keeping a gift for you on the NABX desk for i don't know how long, you coming back next year????

aoxo~love~!~

hey dean
i understand. but i could of put you on top of my 26story flat top building that i flew kites on over looking madison square garden and the empire state building. at least you could of got in touch with me and i would of taken you guys out for dinner.(ask aj and meg) after all you were in my town and i got alot of pull in the midtown area. heck i even flew indoor at madison square garden one time when the crew was setting up the basket ball court. i know alot people who work for the garden and they let me in for a quick fly.
about NABX. its hard to say if i`m coming back next year. taken care of my mother is getting to be a full time job for me and plus i don`t like flying anymore. having to get touched and treated like trash at the airport is not for me.
take care and hope to see you soon
