So. What is the most ANNOYING thing ever created by mankind?
I think it's a tossup between Sarah Palin and FBF kites.
But, for the sake of this forum, let's go with FBF kites.
When I feel the need to challenge myself, I go out to static fly or ATB with one. A hell of a lot of fun when they work, but when they don't, I often
find myself expelling more strings of exclamatory remarks than I have ever done with any other type of kite. :ticking:
What's the worst experience you've ever had with a FBF? Hilarious moments you lost your cool and wish you caught it on camera? :P

Yes, sorry. I should mention that FBF = fixed bridle foil.

Realizing that Flexifoil must have been at the end of the roll of bridle line and just said "Scr3w it.... just kill the roll" as a result the brake
line leaders were waaaaaaaaay too long.
Nothing like realizing the wind was coming in for the last hurrah of the day and I had no brakes (even with handles close to inverted :o ). Needless
to say I was surrounded by SLKs at the end of a Kite Festival.....
:wee: :wee: :wee:
Now new kites get their shakedowns in less impressive wind. :embarrased:
ATB,
Sam
P.S. I think FB get a bum rap... they are what they are and fly fine as long as you take prevailing conditions into account.Seanny - 20-11-2010 at 03:38 PM
Bahahahaha
Yes. The last time I got frustrated with a FB, I just told myself that there's a place for every kite, and this is just not the place for it right now
:P
Ha, I always think it's funny to see people flying 12-15 meter depowerable kites perfectly fine in the same wind that some guy on a 5 meter FB is
getting spanked in :D
Been there, done that! :wee:

Seannyaircav1182 - 20-11-2010 at 04:07 PM
The session I just had with these ?&%#$ mid-west winds (Missouri). Power on....new bigfoot powered by a PL 6.7 Core shoots off lick a
rocket....yea, this is the life!!!..No ....wait the wind just went completely dead.....wait...as the kite is falling in a heap another gust
hits...Damn ...my lines are now twisted.....ok...I got it...I'll get the lines straight in a minute....wind is dead again...now the kite not only
falls in a heap but twists itself....and on and on.....
I'm moving to a coast ASAP...Seanny - 20-11-2010 at 04:23 PM
Nothing better 'n a HEAP of bridle lines to untangle (while the wind keeps flipping your kite around), ground too hard to stake down properly, gusty
shifty inland winds that make your foil pull like a bloody train from out of nowhere (then collapse it and throw it like a plastic grocery bag), all
while attempting to fly solo.
That's about a summary of my session today. I think my time spent on my ass : flying ratio was about 10:1.
Cheers,

NO WIND and snow
It's the WORST ! Seanny - 20-11-2010 at 04:37 PM
It COULD be worse.
Mad kangaroo attack. Alien invasion. Volcanic eruption. North Korea. Kite hit by low-flying aircraft. Lightning strike. Making Ripsession angry (am I
the only one who gets the feeling that he's someone you REALLY don't want to piss off? ). Peter Lynn workers go on strike. Beer distillery workers go on strike. Assault by Lord Voldemort. :wee:
You just have to stay positive!

Weld, with a kite that awesome, you need to make a daily sacrifice of 1 Justin Bieber fan in order to maintain it's Earthly presence.
Edit: I don't know why the wind gods would want so many Justin Bieber fans, but better there than here! (No offense to anyone :singing: )

Hey, do you think that if the federal government outlawed chewing tobacco, your state and my state (and Oklahoma and Alabama and Georgia and Arkansas
and Tennessee) would secede and overthrow the White House? Totally plausible IMHO.
It's like the international redneck pastime. Although personally I think it's pretty gross o_O

I can see chewing tabaccy ( as red necks call it) outlawed with State and local police control without over throwing the government. Now if you want
to outlaw cigarettes (Thank you French people) you might need to over throw the GOV.....good luck with that...Matter of fact...that aint gonna happen.

I probably should have quoted something; sorry for the confusion.
I'm still in high school. A lot of people dip here, even teachers. I live in a small Southern town. It's so repulsive
Then again, there's not much else to do. The Exxon on the highway might as well be Mall America. As far as group activities go... tobacco and pot and
fighting each other. That's about it.

No, I go to the Wildwood buggy bash in NJ, trying to make JIBE . Maybe....... It's a great time though, and I'm sure the DBBB is the same. You get a
bunch of kiters together and there is gonna be some fun! Seanny - 20-11-2010 at 06:11 PM
That sounds neat. I almost never get to fly with anyone else. There isn't a person for 20 miles of here that knows of kites with more than one line.
Much less what traction kiting and ATBing/buggying is.
I've never been in a buggy. It must be pretty fun!

Seanny I figured you were either a teenager or smoking the funny tobacco!! I'm glad your a teenager. I also am repulsed by the tobacco industry and
the alcohal industry as well.:flaming: But I'm getting to be an old man now. So I'm grouchy some times
But as for the purpus of this thread... I for some reason picked up a couple of Pansh Ace 5M last year. I took out the one that had been flown and
set it all up in a steady 10mph. Oh what fun I had. It would fly right up to about eye level and then go all freaked out and came crashing back down.
I adjusted every thing up, down, in, out and all around. WOW did I say some words. My grand kids would have told on me for sure!!aircav1182 - 20-11-2010 at 06:19 PM
Well....We'll just have to encourage you to get to an event. Hell, your in TX...go to that Dead Bird event (see events). I was asking about Dallas
because I may be there soon on company business and need some kiting locations/people who like to fly.

Y'know, I'm at the stage now where I'm not collapsing the kites that bad, and if I do, it's not too hard to untangle at all ... even on the Speed2 and
I've had some good 'uns on that. I reckon that F.B's make you a better kiter. Unlike the LEI riders here who are just nightmares!Seanny - 20-11-2010 at 06:33 PM
I love to fly my PL Twister II, it's my favoritest foil kite :D
It's definitely an experience, that's for sure...
I do think that learning on a FB makes you a better kiter... teaches you the basics and really makes you respect the power of the wind. I've had butt
kicked time and time again by the little 4.1m. It's honestly more fun to fly than a depowerable!

Hmmmm. I'm tired of not having a picture. Strangely, I don't have any shots of me kiting. I guess it's since I always go alone. All I have are
Facebook style pictures (lame) and completely irrelevant pictures. I should probably take a kiting picture. There's no way I'm Myspaceifying PKF.
That's blasphemy!
Unless nobody cares. I don't make stupid poses in my pictures. I just want to fill the big empty space :P

I like computers. Not big into social networking... but computers and web design are neat.
There's a lot of things I like that most kids my age could care less about.
Cheers,
Seannyrocfighter - 20-11-2010 at 07:51 PM
Well I know a lot about things kids like. We have 6 of them from 14- 31. And 5 grand kids from 3-8. :eekdrull: I try to avoid most social networking
sites. To many dumb a$$es. But this place is cool and only a few trouble makers. And do try to make it to an event. It is the best way to learn all
the skills you realy need to have to be safe and have a great time.Seanny - 20-11-2010 at 08:01 PM
I don't even bother with social networking. It's just ridiculous. This place is great. A lot of helpful, fun, mature (to an extent :D ) people. It is
a joy to meet and get to know the forum members. I would much rather talk to you guys than talk to kids my own age. In fact I'd almost always rather
talk to someone 20+ years old than someone my own age.
As far as events go, I'll definitely try to get to some! I know I'm missing out. I have to make sure I'm free when the next one comes around. Getting
into college, moving out, etc. will be a bit of a problem for a little while, though. I have to prioritize to an extent... I actually have to start
trying hard in school now to keep my GPA up. Trying to get into Texas A&M. At least there's plenty of nothing out in Bryan College Station to fly
kites! :bigok:

SeannySeanny - 21-11-2010 at 10:03 PM
I got out with my Peter Lynn Twister II 4.1m today. Not sure why I like flying it so much, but it's a new experience every time. The winds were 9-14
mph, gusting to about 32. I knew I was in for it to start with; I was looking forward to fighting with my kite. I needed to get some energy out.
Well, I got what I asked for. My 130 pounds in a strong gust is nothing to the 4.1. Now, I might be a novice power kiter, but I'm definitely not a
"newbie". I can maintain control of most kites in most situations. This time, however, the kite picked me up and threw me into a soccer goal. I
smacked the top spar of it and got a healthy purple bruise on my right side. What a ride that was! :D I had a smile on my face the entire time. That's
the thing about FB foils, I guess. When you don't want to go all out and get caught up in aspect ratio this, and unhooked ability that, and
depowerability and everything else, just chuck your foil around. They're still a major pain in the neck, but whatever. Live a little!
