first depower

aronma - 27-11-2010 at 12:56 PM

I've been looking at some used depowerables and have seen a good deal on a Montana 3 9.5M and Ozone Frenzy 10M (2006). Both are listed in very good condition with the Montana a great price. Can anyone give me some info. on the differences between the two. I'll be using it to ski, buggy and ATB. I weigh 165lbs.

Thanks....

I don't think you could go wrong with either Kite. I've got 2 Montana's and I really enjoy flying them a lot. The Montana IV is a bit quicker and more stable than the III but that's not to say the Montana III isn't a great kite.

I've also got a Frenzy, although a bit newer than the one you're looking at, but it's also a great kite, lifty and powerful.

It's a tough choice, but IMO neither choice is the wrong one. If the Montana is significantly cheaper than the Frenzy, just go with that, you'll like it.

Thanks for the input You do take GREAT care of your equip Maven. That 12 might be a little big for me to tangle with as a first depower. Maybe by WBB ;)

Right, but you could learn with the 8m and then you'd have both the 8m and the 12m making a good quiver :D.

at 165 go big ... if you havent flown before get yourself a cheap trainer or at least find someone that will teach you the basics

for the buggy the 8m and 12m would be fine. but on a ATB or SNOW you'll need bigger or at least be able to hold down more. its depower, so you have a lot more room to play with. whats your average windrange would help you too. if you live in windy country so the 8m would be fine, but even than you still need at least 10 knots.

im 115, and i wouldnt go that small, flying a kite too small on a board will cause you more issues trying to fight it keep it up.

my wooden nickel thought

He has flown before, he bought my GI board off of me at Wildwood. As for the size, he weighs what I do and the 8m and the 12m work for me. Though the 8m didn't get much use. The Manta M3 is pretty well powered for its size.
