I need some help from one of you fellows who can ship me some bottle rockets. I have been dealing with a roosting vulture problem in my backyard for
a couple of winters now. Yeah the big smelly turkey vultures, they come every winter- to the tune of 50-100 and they are killing my pine trees. I
have an array of weapons to get them to leave such as: Paintball gun (use about 2000 balls a winter) always brings a smile to my face when i see the
splotches of yello or orange on the bastards.
A crossbow (arrows get expensive when i lose them). A high powered pellet gun, not your kids little toy, kills um dead when i get a head shot-of
course i dont do that since they are protected( why i do not know they have no natural predators). For the record can't use a real gun ie .22 or
shotgun because i am in the city limits.
Added a Bird X determent system last year with ultrasonic sound (works a little but not as good as i hoped).
Lastily the city had given me bird harrassment shells last year but wont this year because of cost- this are basically m-80s that you fire off with a
.22 blank. So in my desire to continue to harass and scare off this nasty birds i need some bottle rockets with reports but cant buy them in VA and
cannot find a source that will ship them here. So if you are in a fireworks friendly area and would be willing to ship me some i would be very
appreciative- of course i will cover the cost. If you can help please send me a u2u.
thanks
scott

AIRSOFT! get one w/ about 400+ fps and it will light their a$$ up, but won't kill em. AEG's (automatic electric gun )are good, that is what I shoot.

Seem to remember that farmers used a pressurized air gun type thing that just makes a big boom. No gunpowder in it ... don't know the details though.
You could set it to go off at regular intervals and perhaps train them to #@%$#! off for good ...?

while it's not as fun as the pellet gun , my local pool/picnic area
had a bird problem. they ran some fishing line over the pool in really erratic patterns. once the first couple'a birds get hung up the rest catch on
pretty quick...

It would be difficult to ship any to you as it is a federal offense to ship any type of fireworks or explosive through the system - UPS, FedEx or
USmail. $100,000 fine and a maximum of 10 years in federal prison. I doubt that with the new TSA and terrorism procedures in use today that you could
sneak it through....not that I think it would be wise to try. Not to mention any local law violations of shipping illegal fireworks into an area that
is restricted of such.
You could however swing by outside of Vegas here and pick some up....but once again, transporting them across state lines is a federal offense and
don't try to fly with them.

We will be heading up the coast after christmas till new year, If I can stop in Indiana or Illinois on my way through I'll see about picking up a few
gross of bottle rockets with reports for ya!

What about a noisy remote control helicopter? Might be able to rig an extra servo to set some sort of noise making device off when you get it close
to them. I imagine you could have a lot of fun annoying birds with that

If they are like the currawongs we have out here.
You may be able to get a few really plastered on cheap rum and bread, flog crap out of them
hopefully the others will see whats going on and not come back.

The best bottle rockets for this purpose are called gators. The scream from lift off through report. Amazingly loud as they cut through the branches
in trees. Crows do NOT like these at all.
Not sure if they have them or about shipping to you, but try www.skylighter.com for product and especially for knowledge re shipping. Real pros.

Spud guns are fun and cheap. Size it for tennis balls.

I was thinking potato gun as well. PVC pipes, grill lighter, and tenis balls. Wrist rocket an 1/4" steel balls work good on geese. Maybe vultures as
well.
We had wild turkeys in the yard and it was terrible. I started going out about 10pm with a 10,000,000 cwp flash light and blast them. They got to be
less and less every week. Now there gone.

How about a pet dog or cat. I think Vultures taste like chicken to them!
Kidding aside, I second Cheesys idea. I work at a water treatment facility for a living and had problems with seagulls for years. We tried
everything from air cannons to owl decoys and nothing seemed to work. They just kept coming back. We ended up stringing some heavy duty fishing line
over our ponds and within a week they were gone! For some reason it just frightens them not knowing what their bumping into. We have been Seagull
free going on ten years for us. Worked like a charm.

@ cheddar- I have an 80 lb dog and outside of his excitment for all of the "tootsie rolls" I like the fishing string idea now i just need to figure
out how to get fishing line 60 feet up in the tops of the trees. May not be practical.
did you know that vultures use vomiting as a defense- I was shooting them last year and one fly over and vomited what looked like a 1/2 pound of
fresh ground meat all over my son's shoulder. I am almost ready to cut down the trees if i cannot find a solution this year. Did not become a
problem until 3 yrs ago when a neighbor cleared out about 6 acres of of pine trees. Just afraid if i cut them down in the back yard they will move to
the trees in the front yard- gotta love mother nature just dont like bird sh** all over my roof, cars, and yard.
PHREERIDER - 7-12-2010 at 09:03 AM
