What do you guys have for tattoos??? I'm heading to the coast for Christmas and getting my wife her first and was going to get my tribal arm tattoo done but looks a little out of my price range 5hrs work @ 1000 min seems a bit steep, when I consider my last took 6hrs and only cost me $550here's what I want to get:

Seanny - 10-12-2010 at 04:15 PM

:o SICK!

So are you thinking like a quarter sleeve, half sleeve? $1,000 does seem pretty steep. Make sure it's what you REALLY want. That's a lot of money, especially for something irreversible. You should personalize it... make it special to you. I have a friend whose 24 and has full sleeves on both arms, with this awesome ocean/koi fish design. It's a metaphor about something his psych professor talked to him about in college to help him get some personal problems. By all means though, go for it! Just make sure it's what you want. :)

Cheers,
Seanny

I have a shirt with that on the back and enough titanium to not pass through airport security too easily.

Back when I was younger...

Seanny - 10-12-2010 at 04:55 PM

@Todd
LOL! I'm liking it!

Cheers,

shaggs2riches - 10-12-2010 at 05:11 PM

Yeah I definitely like it and will continue to like it. I've wanted a full on tribal like this for a while. My other one on my back is part tribal as well. I will go for the half sleeve for now and later on I want to expand it onto my chest. I'm gonna talk to the artist later today and see what he can do for part of it now and the rest in the summer without having to spend 6 months having it look dumb. Here's what I have right now except I had it colored in and sometimes wish I had left it this way

rocfighter - 10-12-2010 at 05:29 PM

AJ, WG, Todd I'm with you guys. I have no ink but lots of markings with stories. When my friends and I get talking about them it always reminds me of Rip Torn and Richard Dryfus in Jaws. Sandy just does this

InvertedForce - 10-12-2010 at 05:52 PM

I've got two tattoos, an Alpha on my left wrist, Omega on my right wrist and also an anchor with 13 stars on my arm.

heliboy50 - 10-12-2010 at 08:06 PM

Got a few myself (~30 hours on my right arm alone) - will post pics. $100 an hour and up is pretty common (sometimes way up.) The permanence never even crosses my mind, at least not in a negative way. I figure they are the only thing I have that not even the IRS can take away. I don't even go artsy and say that they mean anything- some do, some don't. To me a tribal peice better be something really different, because the rest has been done and done again. That's just personal opinion, though and if that's your speed then go for it. I'll run out of skin before I run out of ideas! The big factors for me are: Is the shop clean and professional looking? Is this the artists' specialty? (you'll get the best work from them this way.) Never complain about the price to them- It costs what it costs and this DRIVES THEM NUTS. This is a medical procedure, and yes it is permanent so bargain shopping is not a good idea.

speleopower - 10-12-2010 at 09:55 PM

Just make sure it is something you will like for many many years. I have seen some awesome looking tattoos for sure.

There was a guy that used to work at the local grocery store and he had nearly a full sleeve from when he was in his 20's. He was in his late 70's or early 80's and the tattoos looked really odd and not so good any more.

My feeling is scars are way more cool. Here's my best scar to date.
Who else has some good scars or tattoos to share?

I've thought about tattoos/piercings. I have some cool tattoo design ideas. But, I shouldn't even be thinking about it until next year.

heliboy50 - 11-12-2010 at 12:05 AM

Most of what kills a tattoo is UV exposure. I'm pasty white Irish so the Sun and I don't get along anyway:duh: The sleeve on my right arm is almost entirely yellow and looks almost new after 9 years. At one point I had 16 piercings as well (worked in a shop for a while,) but every generation thinks they invent the counter culture. Yes kids, some people your parents age used to look like they did a faceplant in a tackle box too. I think it's funny how angry the young piercing crowd tries to look these days.

ripsessionkites - 11-12-2010 at 05:42 AM

TDMC96 is big on tats. I think he is getting PL logo somewhere. I offered to pay for it if he got it on the butt cheek or the poop hole.
We keep teasing him since we're switching to Libre next season.

Kitemama has tats too, I'm not a fan to getting inked. I love girls with tramp stamps. =)

PS. Kitemama's bro is a tat artist on the island.

Bahahahaha yes! :D I agree with you. I think it looks stupid. Angry angry Slipknot worshippers and mall goths. LOL. I like the snake bites because they look cool. Now, I look around, and every kid has them. Or wants them. It doesn't look so cool anymore. :/

You might say I,m big on tat's

This is my latest one which I got about three weeks ago (5 hours of pain and 700 later)

And a few others (back piece and left sleeve)

I still plan on getting a PL tat but probably on the right shoulder..(attempting to talk Rip into getting one with me but I fear that he is so skinny that the needle might pass right through him....lol:yes:

Cheers all!

Wererabbit, dragon sock, crazyalienspacebones. Got some more but these are the biggest.

shaggs2riches - 11-12-2010 at 04:11 PM

Those are some crazy tattoos guys!!!! I talked to the artist and to make it easier to get I will get all the bold and outlining done this time round and in the summer get it all filled in. Would be nice to do it all at once but at least it will look decent till its complete

edk442 - 11-12-2010 at 06:28 PM

@edk442
Woah.. :o That's crazy! I like it! So it's like a gunshot turning into flowers?

shaggs2riches - 11-12-2010 at 08:16 PM

Now this has me wondering if anyone has any kitesurfing, buggy, atb etc... tattoos? It would be pretty sweet to have a kiting pic on my calf.

@rip if you go for the peter lynn logo you could always do multiple ones all the way around your bicep kinda like when someone gets barbed wire around the same spot :frog:

ripsessionkites - 12-12-2010 at 06:03 AM

I'm not one for needles, the idea sounds cool. I might need to eat a few brownies first.
I wonder if PL would pay for the PL logo barred wire.

Question is do you like the new logo or the old logo?

Did anyone see the dude on FB that got Flexi across his belly?
Ken 1 has + years and Indian Joe on his legs.

If I go ahead with anything at this moment I want Jr's and my daughter Mia foot print on my right and left forearms. I need to hurry up since they are growing and it's going to get bigger. Hahahaha.

shaggs2riches - 12-12-2010 at 11:27 AM

When did they change logos?? The only one I know of is the pinwheel design. The footprints are a cool idea

I've been thinking of a cool kiting tattoo myself. What would be cool that you wouldn't have to explain all the time? I thought of the usual buggy/kite silouette but that might look like a bumper sticker. I have a tribal already on my bicep (I forgot what tribe I belong to though, ) and it looked really cool when I was all buff and working out 10 years ago. Now however, as I get mushy and old, its sort of sliding down my arm so I figure in a few more years it'll just fall off my hand like a loose bracelet!

Seriously, though, I'd be proud to get a tat to represent kiting if anyone has a good idea--sort of a brotherhood stamp we can all get .

Hey ---UPDATE-- Got this today on my calf! It's a kanji symbol for wind! Or maybe soy sauce.

shaggs2riches - 13-12-2010 at 06:51 PM

How bout a PKF tattoo  Juat kiddin it would be sweet to get a kiting tatty designed

pokitetrash - 13-12-2010 at 07:18 PM

I see a challenge! Where are all of our artists? I know we have a few on PKF. Id be willing to get stamped if its really cool!

UnescortedCloud - 14-12-2010 at 02:03 AM

UnescortedCloud - 14-12-2010 at 02:05 AM

tdmc96 i love that first one you have man! the colors are so bold, wicked nice bro!

DAKITEZ - 14-12-2010 at 02:58 AM

I have full tribal on my right thigh. I am soo glad that I did personalize mine with my daughters names in the design. Like said above make sure you throw your own spin on it, or it will look like the other millions of people who did the same thing

I have heard of artists charging alot extra per hour for someone who says they want some tribal done and have no original idea because the artists do not want to do it. Atleast the good artists that take pride in their work. They want to do more artist original work instead of something that is more common.

I plan to get more work done but I will switching to a more Maroi type style.

lives2fly - 14-12-2010 at 04:34 AM

I have four tats, 2 on each arm. I really like the permenancy of them. they are part of me the same as any other features.

I also have a 8mm spike in my bottom lip and a bar in my eyebrow even though I spend all day at work in a suit and tie! ...and i'm 37 not 17.

Its kind of important to me to retain some sort of individual expression but it has actually helped me in business too because it is so unusual (in the UK at least). people don't forget who I am easily and it sets me apart from the horde of faceless "suits"

thanks :)

the general theme (for ME at least..some people might just see a guy shooting himself) is rebirth, forgetting the negative and focussing on the positive and becoming a better person. even the hard times can have their own silver lining. a chance to start anew like spring after a cold winter

i actually named it "A new Beginning" but at least one person has called it "Fingerbang"

Seanny - 14-12-2010 at 03:46 PM

That's deep. I think it's one of my favorite tattoos I've seen.

Cheers,
Seanny

edk442 - 14-12-2010 at 08:37 PM

i'm only 24 (had it done when i was 23) and i think that as long as it's personal to you, then age is irrelevant. i've had people ask me why i would put such a morbid image on my back and tell me i'll regret it when i'm old and wrinkly. poppy#@%$#! to that son! i love the image and what it represents and if it looks awful one day i don't really care because i can happily live with the message behind it for the rest of my life.

this is my first and only tattoo and it won't be my last, but the next will come when the time and message are right

Seanny - 14-12-2010 at 08:51 PM

It's what it means to you that counts the most. Things that are personally significant to you cannot possibly be comprehended in the same manner by other people. Well, that and the tattoo also just looks really cool. :)

Music is really what I am most passionate about, have always been passionate about, and will continue to be passionate about. I like it all. Band shirts for me, every day. Some of the metal shirts I wear earn me funny "WTF is that" looks from other people. Do I care? Not particularly. Of course, I'm not out to offend anyone... my Morbid Angel logo shirt is one of my favorite shirts ever, but I'm sure some of the Christian folk around here won't think it's too cute. Man, did I just hijack this thread or what? Sorry about that.

Cheers,
Seanny

shaggs2riches - 31-12-2010 at 10:22 PM

Here is what I ended up getting. Quite different from what it started to be but I really like it, and it was custom designed to be unique. Three and a half hours later I now have a fun two weeks of even more pain as it heals. Enjoy

acampbell - 20-1-2011 at 07:06 PM

something like this is what I'm thinking for my first. Old Man Wind. Just a question of where. The wife already has one but we are talking about a trip to the studio together.

shaggs2riches - 20-1-2011 at 07:20 PM

that would make for an awesome experience together for sure. That was the plan my wife and I had, but we ended up getting them a week a part from the same artist. We were on holidays though so it was the same idea for us

Here's my first post on Power Kite Forum!

my first tattoo ever... it could be few things... freestyle kite... a revolution one or a traction power kite... if you look it up side down it could be a Bat... an at the same time a kind of origami bird!

borntofli - 24-1-2011 at 07:39 PM

You guys are wasting good kite cash.......... No disrespect intended, just don't get the tat thing........

djinnzfree - 26-1-2011 at 02:32 AM

It's a ritual, a way to mark an important point in my life ... to remember and show ... in the pain of being tattooed i found some serenity... i understand your point «good kite cash»... for me i had to pass this step to go further.

chudalicious - 7-4-2011 at 07:38 AM

Shaggs - that tat came out amazing! Trying to convince the man to get one similar but he is not sold yet. (Someone at WW please talk some sense into him)

Got my first last night on my lower back JUST RIGHT of the tramp stamp location :) Hurt more than playing hockey with my broken thumb.

I am so glad I waited two years before going as it took me that long to settle on a design that is truley unique and original. Nice to know no one else has one like it and prob never will. If you look closely, my nickname that my family calls me is within the spiral - not obvious, which is the way i like it.

Here is the drawing I sent the artist and it came out exactly as I had designed. I sure hope its healed for next weekend cuz i gotta get out the harness over this ink!

KChudyTurtleTat2.jpg - 14kB

bobalooie57 - 7-4-2011 at 08:48 AM

Very nice design, Krissy! I actually "saw" a freeform salamander on the turtle's back, until I looked closely. Unique, indeed!

shaggs2riches - 7-4-2011 at 09:32 AM

Thanks for the kind words. Congrats on getting your first. I like the turtle design totally unique. I'm getting touch-ups this summer and hoping to finish the design all the way around my arm. I want to do a red shading too. When this one is finished I will do the same on the other arm, except red with black/gray shading. I got a bit of flak when I posted it on a tattoo forum. Something bout tribal being out of style. But then again I never was one to be up in style with what everyone else was sporting/doing so it didn't bother me.

kiteetik - 7-4-2011 at 09:47 AM

i got 2 from my air force days--a flaming skull and a scorpion both on the right arm......heres a weird coincidence--2 other guys i worked with had skeletons and scorpions on their right arms--they were all different, but what a strange coincidence!! and we all got along great also......

702dirtsurfer - 7-4-2011 at 10:38 AM

Grass-ee-ass! Got to see kens' work and they both have great work! The best advice I ever got was take your idea to an artist and say, "this is what I'm thinking, can you draw something close to it with your interpretation of that?" Then it becomes a collaborative, and it gets the artist from "yeah I can do it" to "yeah I WANT to do it" and the work and price is always better. Plus if they're good, their ideas usually turns out better than what you had in mind.
