Whacha Get?

pokitetrash - 22-12-2010 at 07:58 AM

Remember when we were kids you couldn't wait to call your buds or go see what they got for Christmas? We would stare in awe at the GI Joe with the Kung Foo Grip, Hot Wheels or TYCO Race Track and don't forget the Six Million Dollar Man with the peep hole to look through his bionic eye.

So, since I'm a big kid and can't wait for Christmas, I wanted to see what Kiting Stuff YOU got for Christmas. I know its early but some of you snooped and you know who you are:yes:, and some know what you're getting because you pay the credit card bills.

cheezycheese - 22-12-2010 at 08:03 AM

No kiting stuff unfortunately, but I know I got a membership to the BMWCCA...

Todd - 22-12-2010 at 08:22 AM

For me sponsorship and 3 Chargers.
For the boy GoPro HD. Time to get him progressing into the video world!

What a Christmas it has been already.

Hey Todd, Nice on the Chargers, (and the sponsorship, again). Do you get to keep your current ride? Or will PL custom build you one? (Call it the Peter Maxx???) sorry, couldn't resist.:spin:Happy Holidays!

Todd - 22-12-2010 at 09:37 AM

Ouch bob...

I wish we could of had some new Phantom II kites under the tree but hopefully in time.

shaggs2riches - 22-12-2010 at 09:37 AM

The wife and I are both getting inked today as a gift to one another. Bought our oldest a mbs atom 80X hoping he loves riding mine so I'm sure he'll love his. Hopefully this will set the hook to get him flying his kite so that he can use both at the same time. Oh and I'm scopng though the web to see if I can find a good deal on a loaded dervish when I go back through Edmonton. Found a good deal on a landyachts EVO out here but really thinl its best to wait for the board I really want.

.......Three Chargers:o ...........Oh I totally remember the Kung Foo Grip.

WELDNGOD - 22-12-2010 at 10:18 AM

I'm getting a CT scan for X-MAS ! Oh wait ,that's a sucky kiting gift to get. Dang, I must have been really bad this year.:dunno:
I did buy myself a TRAMPA recently(that I can't ride now), guess that will have to do.

flyguy0101 - 22-12-2010 at 10:26 AM

I got a gopro HD and a couple of used kites (bought them a while back but have yet to fly them hoping for snow and wind for christmas) Also my wife got me the new eflite MSR remote control helicopter- awesome indoor flyer:smilegrin::Ange09:. MERRY CHRISTMAS to all of you and wishing all of you tight lines and clean winds in the new year.

indigo_wolf - 22-12-2010 at 11:09 AM

Kinda sorta pretty sure there might be one kite related gift, but our paths crossed downtown without actually meeting, and I didn't get the phone message about it until much later that day. So.... I guess I will have to wait until schedules coincide again.

Got a pseudo kite related present for that friend... but details will have to wait, since he sometimes lurks this forum.... and you know who you are. :P Almost didn't make it because of a spike in demand. :o

Won a small prize in the Holiday Gift Giveaway on another forum.... woo hoo :wee: There were much larger prizes/gifts, but I was surprised to snag anything... kind of cool to see donations and giveaways on a forum where a lot of people have never met face to face. Inspired to find something neat to donate to it next year if they do it again, kind of caught me by surprise at the last minute this year.

Waiting for a CD that I sponsored to be released... kind of a pricey way to get some free CDs  , but good cause and a way cool way to produce a CD.

So I guess for the most part, my Christmas presents have been of the slightly strange, left of center variety.

Girlfriend's gift was delivered to the office and tucked away, till I get there tomorrow. Working from home today and keeping the wee furry ones entertained/out of trouble and from running up the credit card bill. KHSN (Kitty Home Shopping Network) is the work of the Devil.

Patiently waiting for some sharps and some brights.... oh do hurry Santa.

ATB,
Sam

Errr... ummm... That about covers it....

Although..... you could ask Santa for a strawberry munching, tea-guzzling, tone deaf, ran away from a circus, stealth-ninja, furry Mensa wannabe.

Pretty sure Santa provides free Band-Aids and Neosporin with those.

I have a long standing promise to myself to not count kites without first setting aside money for therapy sessions.

Sam

awindofchange - 22-12-2010 at 12:33 PM

My wife got me a custom Masterpiece Revolution 1.5. Beautiful kite and I can't wait to get out and fly it. I am also getting a chiller for my fish tank which is more a present for both of us.

Hoping that all of you have a merry Christmas and get everything that you want. :)

WELDNGOD - 22-12-2010 at 12:45 PM

a 'chiller' , wth? fish air conditioning? do tell...

bigkid - 22-12-2010 at 12:56 PM

I got for Christmas.....
After 6 months I now have the ability to hold my youngest grandson without those poky ribs attacking my lung. The amount of Oxy has been reduced to 10mg per 4 hours and I'm not allowed to drive yet, me and the grandkids can all together fly our 6 Havoc Heli's in the house Christmas day.
No kites, Cameras, or anything kite related, kind of an "Old fashion Christmas, like the ones we used to have......

cheezycheese - 22-12-2010 at 12:59 PM

i'm sure out west those fish tanks can get dangerously hot... i used to freeze two liter bottles and put 'em in my wet/dry filter when things got out of hand. wasn't often, but now and again you have those days where the AC cant handle the temp. spike and you start watching the tank temps rise wondering what will survive and what's gonna boil
what's in your tank Kent...

***sorry for the hijack*** that just took me back....

WELDNGOD - 22-12-2010 at 01:06 PM

never thought of that. Guess that makes perfect sense then.

shehatesmyhobbies - 22-12-2010 at 03:10 PM

Cool Dog Concerts is about 5 minutes from my house Wolf. I have never been to any of there shows, but it is funny how small a world we live in sometimes!

As for my Christmas gifts, I know that soon I will be getting a delivery from up north! I was fortunate enough to be one of the ones getting a Phantom. My wife said that can be my Christmas Present! I am stoked, and my wife kicks a$$!

Merry Christmas everyone! Hope some of you get that little surprise that you didn't know about!

rocfighter - 22-12-2010 at 04:24 PM

All I know about so far is an East coast sport kites T shirt and hoodie. And the same for The Kidd (I ordered them!) But a GoPro HD Wide would be increadible.

labrat - 22-12-2010 at 04:43 PM

Don't know...
Feels like the minority.
If you’re getting toys, enjoy…

Enjoy Bigkid, take it easy on the grandkids, or should I ask who the better pilot is (you or them)?
6 sounds like fun.

Great gift! After a few track days, you'll be needing tires so put them on the Christmas list also.
Meet you at NJMP, Pocono, or The Glen buddy. I'll show you the way around. ;)
You think kiting is addictive, wait till you hit the track.

acmbarber - 22-12-2010 at 06:08 PM

I couldn't resist talking my wife into the way too many kites at once pansh deal. Hope they arrive soon.

To awindofchange, how many Halides are you running to need a chiller? I just helped a buddy build up a 240 gal salt tank, with 3x250 watts. His custom hood got up to 145 degrees...He's getting a chiller too.

labrat - 22-12-2010 at 06:16 PM

All of a sudden I am dreaming of my ’87 535iS. I miss that car.
If I had my way, the black leather Recaro’s would be at my computer desk right now with all their power glory. It was like being hugged while driving.
A real eye-opener for those who did not know what it was capable of…
Thanks for the vids Jaymz

macboy - 22-12-2010 at 07:12 PM

Haven't got it yet but the news lady says Santa is bringing WIND for Christmas Day!

awindofchange - 22-12-2010 at 07:20 PM

Don't mean to hijack this thread but...

Running 2 400w MH along with 12 HO florescent (6 actinic, 6 white) & moon lights. The hood is well ventilated but most of the heat problems are coming from my pumps underneath. No matter what I do I can't get the water temp below 80 so need a chiller. My corals are suffering because of it. In the summer the temp creeps upwards to 85 which can be deadly. After trying several different things we concluded that the only way to get the temp down is with a chiller. Tank needs to be around the 72-74' mark for a healthy environment.

Tank is salt water 485 gal acrylic live reef w/fish. Filters hold bout 180 gal. All home built. :)

acmbarber - 22-12-2010 at 07:42 PM

That's a monster of a tank! You could put a whole reindeer in there. I take it your pumps are in the sump. The bonus of this is you won't need 900watts of heaters... I'll have to make a thread about fish tanks. I wonder how many other kiters share both hobbies.

Princely sums.... but Recaro does make office chairs. Pricewise they probably give Human Scale a good run for the money.

Two days before Christmas, the other thing that was added to my Christmas stocking was.... colorful stationary

indigo_wolf - 23-12-2010 at 02:12 PM

One should always be a little suspect when one's performance review starts wandering and talking about everyone else in the office.

This was of course the year that my vacation days was supposed to bump up to the next tier.

Still feeling very gut-punched... doesn't help that we just put out a fair chunk o' change to have the chiminey re-lined (guess that's better than CO poisoning).

Broke the bad news to my girlfriend right after I got out of the meeting.

Hardest part is going to be avoiding the "deer in the headlights" syndrome. Office is closed tomorrow and I am home... time to give the ole resume the spit and shine and and start getting them out.

Already put out requests for letters of recommendations and references.

Really wanted to kick back a little tomorrow... but there are little furry mewling mouths to feed.

This is a how a kite feels when the wind dies. Gribble.

ATB,
Sam

shehatesmyhobbies - 23-12-2010 at 02:35 PM

Sorry to hear about the job Sam! Two days before Christmas, is that place run by the Scrooge? WTH!

Hope you get back into something soon.

Didn't know that when I wanted to yank them out & with all other responsibilities, most of my furniture is hand-me-downs.

My first thought on your news was "unbelievable", then I realized that today, it actually is...
Best wishes in finding something early in the new year.

pokitetrash - 25-12-2010 at 07:08 PM

So, I bought myself a couple new gear bags for Christmas and an Army surplus flight suit yesterday to cover my work duds when I hit the field after work. Sometimes you got to be Santa for yourself! The hints for the Six Six One body armor must have translated to wife-speak as Shirts, Pants, Underwear and Socks (yup --underwear and socks -but they had HD on them so they're cool!) Did get an armored motorcycle rain suit so I guess what she actually heard was "Blaa Blaa kite, blaaa bla bla bla Armor, blaa blaa blaa blaa kite, blaaa blaa...."

I'll order my body armor Next Friday....

I love my wife!

chudalicious - 25-12-2010 at 07:21 PM

I finally got to give my man the 2011 9m frenzy... Opened it up and boy it is georgeous! I can't wait to fly... Er, him to fly it. :)

As for myself, i got a gopro helmet hero and at the last minute got one for Anderson too (so he wont feel left out.)

Got myself some MX pants too for the buggy (planned birthday gift) and the ATB.

Yes, we are all ready to let the fun begin.

Hope everyone else had a great Christmas as well!!

And Sam, sorry to hear the news -- hopefully the new year brings you a bunch of new opportunities and many great job offers.

shehatesmyhobbies - 25-12-2010 at 09:32 PM

Ended up getting a nice little surprise, complete Fly F16 mx gear! Red and black of course! Helps when your sis owns a bmx shop!

Hope everyone else had a great Christmas!

Kristen, nice snag on the go pros, you are going to love them!

Sorry to continue hi-jack....
i made a cheap chiller by taking an old mini fridge and drillng
1" holes on each side. then i put a 5gal. bucket inside filled
with water. i then ran the water return hose through the holes in the fridge that i drilled into a coil that layed in the bucket of cold water. was cool because i could keep foods nearby also. and i believe the fridge drew very little electric....
wish i could draw a diagram...

Sam,
very sorry to hear, but i can relate. my hours were cut to 1-2 days a week Dec.9. right after i dropped a few grand into my car... :ticking:

Sam and Cheezy, Sorry to hear about your holiday kicks in the sack. Why companies decide to do this at these times is hard to figure. I hope all works out Sam with the resume. Best of luck with this.

Jaymz - 26-12-2010 at 09:06 AM

Lets all send some positive employment vibes out to Sam and Marc and hope 2011 brings more work and better pay to all. Too many people without work and many including myself are working harder for less money.

So from my daughter, a #1 dad note pad and pen set and from my son, an LED flashlight. Darling wife and I didn't exchange gifts this year, but I did get a cool WWBB calender from Santa.

Happy New Year!

Bladerunner - 26-12-2010 at 09:42 AM

After reading this I have realized just what was my greatest gift. I started a 3 year contract in Dec. Meant I had to leave my old company of 20 years but 3 years is pretty huge security for an electrician.

The trip back home and the whole family together for the 1st time in years.

Life is GOOD ! Happy box / kite day !

rocfighter - 27-12-2010 at 08:46 AM

I got a great return call from a friend to keep me company on my ride home Christmas day. Thanks Chris. aka Pokitetrash.
I hope you survived the snow storm, were still getting it here but way less snow than they prodicted :dunno:

indigo_wolf - 27-12-2010 at 07:00 PM

Trust me, we got the balance of your snow.

Spent most of the day shoveling walks, porches, deck, runs for the dog, and driveway. Late in the day we went over to help my girlfriend's father with some shoveling.

Both cars were encased in about 6 inches of snow with about 2 inches of ice underneath that. One of the scrapers just flat out shattered, and it was fairly beefy.

I still need to put in some more time to get my girlfriend's car squared for the morning and clear some re-freeze, but I am taking a breather.... well, just cause. Need to snag some Aleve before going out again.

Back in the 40's by the weekend. Expecting repeated cycles of slush and refreeze throughout the week... gribble.

ATB,
Sam

rocfighter - 27-12-2010 at 08:01 PM

Well they said we should expect 18-24 inches. And as ussual they missed. We got about 6" But they were right on with the wind. 25-34 with gusts ofer 50mph. A bit chilly I'd say!!

Jaymz - 27-12-2010 at 10:15 PM

We got close to 30" here on the Northern Jersey Shore. One of the worst I've seen. Spent 8am-9pm behind the snow blower today. Dug out us, 2 neighbors, and the Monster-in-law. The heavy slush on the bottom is the killer.

The snow here started 10am Sunday and stopped around 6am this morning and some of the local major highways are still closed tonight in spots with abandoned cars and trucks scattered all over. Many of the drivers were stranded all night. Two friends took snow mobiles and got a few to "higher ground" this morning. Tonight I saw a few big state/county plows stranded with all the others. What a mess.
