He is currently over Finland and gifts given so far have just passed the one Billion mark.

I like the story of how it started in 1955 when a Sears & Roebuck adv. in Colorado misprinted the number to call for Santa and accidentally
listed the number for NORAD (then called something else) command center's hot-line. ever since then, volunteers have been manning the project.
