van - 27-12-2010 at 05:25 PM

My christmas present just arrived today !!! Since I had to send the loaner to the next person, my wife let me buy a new one to replace it for Xmas.

The wind is gonna be 15-20mph SE tomorrow, perfect!!! Anyone in Houston wants to come down to SLP tomorrow to buggy or ATB, you're welcome to take the flexboardz for a ride.

Taper123 - 27-12-2010 at 05:53 PM

Never seen one of those... But I'll be down there. As per our conversation... I'll bring a extra 10M PL Scorpion you can try (or anyone wlse... been thinking of selling my extra since I don't think I'll get around to stacking them). Forecast for 15 in the morning and 20 in the afternoon out of the SE (straight on-shore breeze) I know one other buggier who will be joining me as well. Empty beach.. time to do some speed runs :evil::evil:

edit: 15-20 mph straight on shore 53-63 degree weather

mdntdncr - 27-12-2010 at 06:17 PM

Congrats, Van!!!!

Wish I could join you. Hope we'll see some video soon . . .

Houston AirHead - 27-12-2010 at 06:31 PM

Wow that thing looks Beefy, I wish i could have made it.

dylanj423 - 27-12-2010 at 06:36 PM

i plan on leaving houston around 630... getting to san luis pass around 8... in the #@%$#!pit by 820

i also plan on shooting some video of some jumps... and clocking top speeds on the board, too... 28.1 so far, tomorrow might see 33+!!!

ill call work around 10 and see if they really need me... anybody knoiw if a 1mm wetsuit will be enough???

Taper123 - 27-12-2010 at 06:43 PM

My wetsuit is a 3/2 and I stay toasty on days like tomorrow and have to drop into the water to cool off now and then.

van - 27-12-2010 at 06:59 PM

Dylan, are you planning on hitting the water or what?? All I got is a spring suit and it's too cold for me right now. 53-63 degrees on land will be nice and toasty once you start working that kite. I'll bring my ski jacket just in case...haha..

Ken, sure you can't make it?? Onshore winds at 15-20 ?? how can you resist?

dylanj423 - 27-12-2010 at 07:28 PM

water might tempt me... i have yet to buggy, board, and surf in the same day.... tomorrow looks like a good candidate for that, if my suit is enough...

i also have a bit of natural insulation that may come in handy...

Houston AirHead - 27-12-2010 at 09:17 PM

Oh i thought you meant last tuesday van, you guys mind a third wheel?

I can make it out there tomorrow, we should make a few 5 mile down winders on the landboard. I would recommend surfside though on a SE wind
though, i hate those potholes.

van - 27-12-2010 at 09:36 PM

I told steve I would meet up with Dylan in the morning at SLP and maybe later if anyone wants to do a run at surfside after lunch, it would just be a couple miles over the bridge to the other side.

erratic winds - 27-12-2010 at 09:49 PM

Van, the board looks sweet, but ya might want to investigate upgrading to the mbs f4 or the GI talon bindings... bindings with a single post are tough on the side of the foot on landings....

Wish I had some wind in my forecast!

Houston AirHead - 27-12-2010 at 09:51 PM

Sounds good, ill let you know where I end up. I lack a wetsuit still so ill be in-land only.

van - 27-12-2010 at 09:57 PM

yeah.. they're not the greatest of bindings but for now, they seem to be ok. I figure I would have to upgrade to a nicer binding down the road. The GI Talons look sweet!!

Houston AirHead - 27-12-2010 at 10:11 PM

Meh, those baby’s will do you great, also I better mention now, I’m going to check the wind tomorrow when I get up, since ill be inland only and on a 12 meter, I’m only willing to play with about 15-20mph winds (landboarding), usually when its 20+ I’ll be on water only. Hopefully it works out ok. Worse comes to worst, I’ll wait until around lunch time to see if the winds work in my favor.

van - 27-12-2010 at 10:45 PM

are you talking about a 12 meter tube? I have a smaller tube I can bring if you want to use it. I've got a 7 and 9 meter. I'm not proficient enough with the tubes yet to fly them on land. They are way to fast for me so I keep them on the water.

Houston AirHead - 27-12-2010 at 10:45 PM

I just talked to a buddy of mine who kites the waters allot around Galveston. He said tomorrow might be a bad day because of the "high" "low" wind effect, I forgot the technical term but its description is when the winds are high above the dense cloud cover; far above reach of our kites. And since NOAA usually takes their readings from tall observation towers, the readings could most likely be untruthful.

van - 27-12-2010 at 10:51 PM

I'm desperate for some winds so I'm gonna take my chances since I'm on vacation anyways

rocfighter - 28-12-2010 at 11:39 AM

Van that is a wild lookin board. I hope The Kidd doesn't see it. He'll want one too!!
I hope you guys have a great day.

Taper123 - 28-12-2010 at 05:35 PM

Was blowing 15 with gusts to 22, almost dead on-shore winds. Water tower and back were fast and fun. Only wished the tide would have gone a little farther out to give a more smooth ride.

van - 28-12-2010 at 05:50 PM

steve , thanks for the loaner 10m Scorpion!! That thing is a blast to buggy with in 15mph wind. Freaking fast kite!!

mdntdncr - 28-12-2010 at 06:03 PM

Video! Video! Video!

Taper123 - 28-12-2010 at 08:10 PM

I liked Van's "extra seat" At one point he was cruising down the beach with his wife and kid all on one buggy. A nice touch to his homemade buggy.

Houston AirHead - 28-12-2010 at 08:14 PM

how was the water?
did you wear a suit? what size?

im curious about the water temps and if its worth riding in this time of year

.... im also sorry to have missed today... work was a pain in the butt on top of it all... they really didnt need me there :/

Houston AirHead - 29-12-2010 at 12:30 AM

The water was freaking awesome, water temp. I’m guessing was in the 40s, i wore my 3/2 wetsuit i just bought off a buddy , fully body suit, no gloves, no booties.
Don’t get me wrong ... it was COLD. But the suit kept me nice and toasty. I got there and was in the water by 1pm and didn’t get off the water until 4:30. Blue skies, little cloud cover. Wind was 20+; I rode my 12m tube all day. There were folk on 8s, 9s, 10, and 12s. The wind surfers looked frustrated in all the maze of kite’s. Lol
It was a great time, there were about 15 kites on the water at one point, I’m so glad I finally bought a wetsuit.
***WORD OF CAUTION*** always wear shoes or sandals when walking on the beach at the levee, unfortunately there are idiots who think it’s fun to bust beer bottles on the rocks so glass is scattered all up and down the beach.***

Were probably heading to surfside tomorrow, I’ll let you guys know. See you in the air!

Taper123 - 28-1-2011 at 05:17 PM

Van and his family riding off into the distance... Three people aboard this kitebuggy.
