per Bobs suggestion and because of 8 failed attemps to get good rides on San Diego beaches decided to give El Mirage a go.
i was wondering
- what is the chance there will be not enough wind. I am bringing 7.0 bullet and 3.5 meter flexfiols.
- will it be crowed? lots of motorvehicles to look out for?
any other suggestions?

Always a good chance of wind out there. Usually comes up about 1-2pm.
Crowded? There is more traffic on the weekends (not sure about in Oct). But unless they're racing or testing the high speed vehicles, you shouldn't
have any trouble. Just keep your eyes open as you cross through the middle of the dry lake for land sailors and motorcycles.
Here's the thing... on your first drive out on the lake bed, you'll get the urge to hug the shoreline and quickly set up camp. Resist this urge and
drive ALL THE WAY down the middle to nearly the western shore line. There is an area on the north side that is best for buggying and skating.
Directions to Walt's Cove:
* In Adelanto, while going north on 395, turn left (west) on Chamberlain Way (formerly Crippen Road)
* Proceed to the "T" and turn right
* Follow El Mirage Road about seven miles(there is a hard left to the west right after the "T") to the wooden El Mirage Dry Lake access sign.
* Turn right and go about two to three miles on a dirt along some stout looking posts marking the boundary of Elmer to a crossroad with a stop sign
* Turn left and see a rough looking road down to the lake bed, power poles crossing the lake at this southern end of the lake, and a outhouse
structure on the eastern shore out in the rough.
* Head out across the lake bed under the wires bearing west of north to find the camp about 3 or 4 miles out on the far shore.

El Mirage is Wet/Closed right now

We headed out for El Mirage today but, learned by calling that lake bed is wet and roped off right now
Sounds like will not be openen until it all dries up
