curse of the new kite....dedicated to WELDNGOD

flyjump - 6-1-2011 at 07:04 PM

Took out my 15 charger today in winds 13-18. This is my first session with it when it was powered up. On my first run I hit a jump that wipped me sideways pretty good. I had to bail and take a slam from about 10ish feet up. When I landed the lines lost tension cause the kite to inverted. I landed it nose down and try to relaunch. Wind was getting stronger so I just pulled the safety. When I looked at the spar pocket I looked crooked.

I pulled it out of the pocket and realized it was bent to crap. I just sold my v2, so now my only kite has a bent spar! Contacted PLP and waiting on a new one. I wanted to ride for awhile longer so I bent it back best I could and rode for another hour or so. It's crazy how well these kites fly even with broken pieces. I couldn't even tell that it was bent while flying it.

WELDNGOD told me about the curse of the new kite and I think it is true. Had the charger for a month and I only have 4 sessions on it. two in low winds, one session getting it tuned up and now a session with a bent spar. haha hopefully I'll get a real session on it soon.

Donnie when does the curse of the new kite end? I want to get a good session on it in strong winds.

Now I need to order my 12m soon!
good winds!

ITS OVER AS SOON AS YOU STOP GIVING IT LIFE.

SORRY ABOUT THE KINK. STRAIGHTEN IT AND KEEP ROLLING!

15-20 THIS THING REALLY TURNS ON.

BE GLAD YOU DIDN'T GET BENT!

That thing is pretty bent, Plus one for Phree's comment!

I know you would find a way to keep on truckin!

i dont think this falls under warranty

can you please explain why you cracked the spar over someone's head?

for the time being i would re-bend it until the replacement comes in.

i thought the kite curse was no wind or rain, not broken eq. :puzzled::P

Doh! The one thing I wish the arcs didn't have are the spars ...

WELDNGOD - 7-1-2011 at 01:46 AM

the "curse"usually means "no flyable wind for 2 weeks to a month." Breaking gear, now that sounds more like "Curse of the pink skirt"!!!:lol::lol: (what am "I" laughing at? that ain't funny:( )

exactly what did you do while you were in WW Adam?............

Adam you get an "A" for effort, I almost "feel" like "I"was out flying today!:wee: Sorry about the Kite.......

And yeah ,it's real early. Pain meds wore off....:ticking:

Thanks dudes. I just bent it back and kept riding. Out of the last two years on arcs I've never damaged spar, of course it has to happen to my charger! Now to find repacemets.....

Donnie, I wish you couldve Been at WW. I got the CH tuned up really nice while I was there. I also found out through our new north American PL head honcho :D that I'm the second team rider it's happend to this week. Maybe I tried to spank the kite too soon haha. At least I didn't get bent!

WELDNGOD - 7-1-2011 at 07:35 AM

That's right

Feyd - 7-1-2011 at 08:26 AM

Spank the Charger too hard and she'll spank back. :spin:

usually on used kites purchased, the "kite curse" is 50% less

NJLandboarder - 7-1-2011 at 06:44 PM

i think the kite curse reverses during injury after i got out of the hospital there was good wind every day for like two weeks

and ive been reading up on my kite spars i read on some forums that people use bamboo as replacements because its cheap and you can have it with you to cut and make on site

has anyone tried this or anything other than the pl spars

In a pinch you can use fiberglass driveway markers. Just trim to fit.

They only down side is that they're a little bit heavy, they're abrasive to the inside of the pocket and they look silly with the reflector hanging out of your kite.

Nahhhh I made that up. Obviously you don't save the reflector part.

I've been running them in the F-Arcs and they've been fine. I taped the ends to protect the pocket.

We have 8' long markers here at Home Depot for marking the driveways for the plow guys. 1 marker goes for about $5 I think.

I agree with the injury/curse thing. Also goes with work/curse. My wife hasn't had a decent day of kiting in a month because every weekend has been windless. But as soon as she goes back to work it nukes.
