So being the crafty one who, thanks to more amounts of wintertime darkness and working two jobs on the weekend, has had more time to putz around at
night, I decided to have some fun with making some custom kite stakes.
Made some from real mini pool balls and a few others from modeling clay and epoxy. Dorky? Perhaps... but at least they are not golf balls (HATE golf!)
What do you guys think? Can i quit my jobs yet!?

How much...? $$$

I could use one of those... my PL stakes are monsters... all I want to do is stake down my kite, not create a meteorite impact crater in a soccer
field.

Wow! Really?!
Well, I was just posting to share but I suppose if anyone is interested we could work something out. If there is enough interest, I could do up a
bunch of them?

i just made a bunch too! i was just thinking about making a thread i know you hate golfballs but i used to golf when i was little because all my
cousins did but i eventually stopped but when i did i bought a huge box of neon orange golf balls but i never used them they were more of a novelty
and now i found a new use for them
i sharpened and rounded the stainless steel rods on my bench grinder and then epoxied the golfballs on
the one of the end is a HQ kite stake just for comparison
not to steal kristens thunder but i can also make them for people who want them because i have too much freetime and need a job

i personally hate golf too i was thinking about making some from a lacrosse s and hockey pucks but maybe i can find something else to use i like the
clay idea i was thinking about making one from a novelty plastic hand or maybe a skull?

My faves have always been Dave's custom stakes. Some seriously, seriously loverly work. Between those and custom kites, the man bleeds talent like a
SR-71 bleeds jet fuel.

Exactly what I was thinking about
although I don't know about "mini" ... I got
big hands (apparently) and don't like pushing the small heads into hard ground.
... I use my PL stake for grass or soft ground cos the stakes won't hold.
chudalicious - 23-1-2011 at 06:16 PM
kami... Happy to make yours with the "big" balls if ya end up wanting one
(However i wrote that one, it justs didnt sound right
)
Kamikuza - 23-1-2011 at 06:26 PM
How solid would the ball be, do you think? Would it survive being stomped into the ground?
chudalicious - 23-1-2011 at 06:46 PM
Ive tested in our frozen grass out here in fridgid RI and the mini balls hold up perfectly. I Imagine the larger balls would work better if anything.
BeamerBob - 23-1-2011 at 08:23 PM
I'd want the ball small enough that you could still get a brake loop over them. Big balls can really get in the way.
:embarrased:
For me I use HQ stakes in grass and PL stakes at the beach.
