Zero 7 / Navigator bar hybrid?

Cheddarhead - 28-1-2011 at 10:46 PM

I really love my zero 7 bar over my Navigator bar, but like the Navigators safety system, chicken loop, swivel, clam cleat, etc much better. Anybody out there that's made a hybrid zero 7 / Navigator combo work for them. I just thought I would ask before I start to tinker with them. My only complaint about the Navigator bar is the foam padding. Everything else I'm extremely happy with. Did Peter Lynn go with a padded bar for more floatation or is it just a comfort thing?

Thanks.

Funny you should say that - I think the same thing ... the Nav bar material just seems wrong. However, I have found that when it's wet, it is very grippy :) I'll live with it ;)

Kevin, all the peter lynn riders are asked to give reviews to headquarters about their new gear. My only complaint to them was the foam on the Nav bar. I absolutly love everything about the nav bar, but the foam feels so weird. I don't like how you can feel that hard edge where the two layers of foam meet. I know i'm not the only team rider to talk to them about that, so we'll see what happens in the future :)

I don't think the '07 hole is big enough to use the Navi rigging.

I wear gloves so I don't have an issue with the foam beyond the way ice glazes it when it gets wet ocaasionally.

My old long bar's foam is almost spent. I'm gonna bar tape it and see how that holds up.

Feyd, I agree with the whole glove wearing thing. In the winter when I'm riding snow it really doesn't matter, but come summer time with the gloves off it's just a little hard to get used to. Not a big deal by any means, I certainly can live with it. I was pretty bored last night and started thinking about my gear (who doesn't) and had one of those what if moments, thats all.

I appreciate the responses.

Reading this brings up the thought (for me anyway)....what if a company started offering custom bar design with kite orders??? This could give the option of bar grip type, floats or no floats, trim type. Then you could get the custom setup to truly match your desires. Just a thought:frog:

I've thought about that too, shaggs ... my P3 bar's grip is coming unstuck, and it just looks like bit of foam cut and glued on - with a computer controlled cutting thingy and a bunch of foam, it should'nt bee too hard ... getting it all stuck on nicely though :o

I've only flown the 07 bars of different lengths so can't comment.... But I'd love a nav bar if any one has an extra for the right price.

Just remembered that I made a set of devil sticks last year out of some doweling. For grip I wrapped a small string around the stick then I covered it with some heat shrink. It held real good but not sure how well it would wear being gripped all the time.:dunno:
