Flight atempt

NJLandboarder - 30-1-2011 at 01:54 PM

today i tried to fly my venom10 there was wind but the kite would barely inflate but would not fly

the wind was around 10 mph
is that too little for this kite?

should i try using something else to inflate it like a leaf blower?

or do i need a bigger kite

stetson05 - 30-1-2011 at 02:16 PM

My 10 V2 would barely fly in that low of wind.

You need more wind! It may work with some longer lines. I have only one set of lines and they're 20 meters... I'm holding back on getting extensions because of complications, but my V13 flies with like half power on them and needs a lot of wind just to get going.

More wind or cheat the inflate. Even than in that wind you need bigger.

is a a v16 too big?

Seanny - 30-1-2011 at 03:34 PM

A V10/V16 quiver would suit anyone quite nicely, me thinks. No kite is too big if used properly and in the right wind conditions :)

for you no, for Dino yes :spin:

most riders go 10m and 15/16m for the full range

when you cant hold down the 15/16m no more the 10m should be coming out in prime wind.

I detect another inside joke.

PHREERIDER - 31-1-2011 at 06:05 AM

it will fly in 10mph but its deep in the window with a ton of action.

u need more wind

Feyd - 31-1-2011 at 06:17 AM

10m is definately on the higher wind side of the spectrum. It will fly in lightish winds but you have to work the heck out of it.

16m is an awesome all rounder. Good power, good depow and really smooth in the lift department. A lot of people I know always compare other kites to the V2 16m when talking about traits the like in a kite.

And like Rip said if you get to the end of the high end range on the 16m the 10m is pretty dang sweet.

shoulda gone with a 13m, it probably wouldve helped you out a bit more on those days where the wind wasnt' blowing as hard.

kingsofa - 31-1-2011 at 04:22 PM

I use a 9.6v rechargeable RC battery with a 120mm computer case fan to inflate my 13m scorpion, I can launch it in like 5mph wind with a little bit of patience and a lot of yanking on those power lines. Once inflated and in the sky I feel like It can fly with very minimal wind.

Oh yea and the key to launching in very little wind is to make sure those damn vents are open, mine for some reason stick a lot so I just pull them apart while the kite is inflating

NJLandboarder - 31-1-2011 at 04:29 PM

i could even get the kite up it was just a mess =[

thank you everyone i think i might be buying a 16 venom soon will my lines on bar now work? im not sure how long but they are q power line custom ones

im thinking of using my leaf blower to fill it next time not sure when the next windy day will be hopefully soon

Try putting some sand bags or water bottles on the upwind tip of your kite to anchor it down. If it starts to flap around, just leave it. It should settle back down. Make sure your lines go over top of the kite and use the launch assist, it helps to keep things in order. If the wind is low, launch unhooked with your trim strap pulled in. Grab the main lines and pull back on them hard. Of course, things are 100x easier when you have a helper with you. The lines you have should be fine. Depending on your bar size, it may or may not work with a V16. I'd think that a V16 would like a 60 cm bar? I suppose a 55 cm would work... I'm no expert.

Bladerunner - 31-1-2011 at 05:23 PM

What you describe is a classic arc under inflated in too low of wind.
Like others said a fan would help but you still would have to fly the heck out of it to keep it up. Forget about auto zenith until about 12+kts.

A 15 , 16m would compliment the 10 and probably become your go to kite. I rarely have a need for a 10m my 15m has that much top end.
