Blizzards out east

Wow. Just saw a bunch of news about the Blizzards out east. Holy cow! Good for snowkiters....not so good for anything else. I hope everyone is safe and warm.

Well my sister in Wisconsin got 20" and 60mph winds.

Here in the east we got what we used to call a "storm" but now anything with any kind of accumulation and wind gets totally blown out of proportion.

We got about a foot, and hardly any wind.

Enough snow to make it worth busting out the fat boards.

Over the past 2-3 weeks over 3' of snow has been deposited in my yard. I love kiting. I love skiing, but I way prefer kite landboarding to kite skiing when conditions are as they are right now. The problem with ALL this snow coming week after week is that its hard to walk out to the middle of the pond on to kite ski on and because its so deep its hard work to carve through on skis (even on my 82mm under foot Rossi's) and the constant weight of new snow doesn't allow the slush layer between the ice and snow (on lakes) to solidify.

So its been a great year for down hill skiing but not the best for kite skiing for me so far.

On the upside, if we have a typical thaw this winter, the ice will be awesome come March / April as all this snow will never melt away to pure ice but as it melts will leave a super fast, super carveable ice/snow surface as it melts down and refreezes and melts and refreezes. That is what I'm really looking forward to.
