First time with a power kite. Special thanks to KAZEDOKA for making sure I didn't do anything too stupid. It was a blast and I must say, I'm happy with the new kite too. It is a Prism Tensor 5.0 Had it out today in about 10mph winds. Perfect! Just need to refine the technique now. Please don't laugh...

Wow! You flew that thing like a pro

I'm really digging the new Tensors... Seems to fly quite quickly through the window. It looks awesome, too. Has a really mean shape to it. And having the graphic facing the ground looks soooooooooo much better.

Looking good except - don't jump with the kite zooming across the window like that. (like at 1:10 & 1:38) You will break something (ie: you) sooner or later. Look up pendulum jumps on youtube and make sure you redirect your kite high up overhead. Once you leave the ground you don't want the kite to pull you horizontally so you need to get that kite overhead.

I'm certainly no expert in jumping, but there's quite a few videos showing just how much pull a 5m kite can have suddenly in a gust. And some of the videos aint pretty. The more information you have, the safer you'll be.

Kite looks great, by the way, and it looks like you're gonna have a hell of a lot of fun with it.

cheers,

John

Right on John !

You have a real natural abilaty ! Take time to watch your video thinking about what John was saying.

It seems you are making a classic beginers mistake. Just flying the heck out of the kite and reacting. Going straight to a large kite and jumping. These methods carry I higher than normal injury rate. You need to take a bit more time just flying the kite and setting those reflex memories. Take it back a step and try flying that kite in handle mode for much more fine control. It will be much easier and safer if you are master of the kite, know how to set up and redirect + react without thinking before you jump ! Do you have a helmet ?

Please don't think I am knocking you. I can tell you will do great at this ! I just see that you are sort of putting the cart before the horse. :wee:

Excellent afternoon, Glad you and brother had a good experience both sailed very nicely, follow johns video suggestions.
The Tensor kit very user friendly. Enjoy

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I realized towards the end of the session the potential for problems the way I was jumping. Admittedly I felt a little out of control. I will be sure to get some more information about that and work on it. Handle mode is next!

Ryan: I would love to fly sometime, Weekends and week days early afternoon tend to be best for me. Ph: 980-5943 you can text or call if you are going out. I might try this afternoon again at the Balloon Park if there is some wind. I'm psyched!

Holy S#*@. I found this while looking up how to kite jump. I see what you guys are saying.

that's pretty bad, there are worse --check out "pansh ace 5m jump wwlsquad" its not pretty, and there are even more brutal jumps/crashes or near misses out there......great reminders to wear safety gear and get some solid skills......while you're watching the pansh vid, check out my vid from a few years ago "toledo kite buggying" a shameless self promotion.........

don't post the bad ones, they sometimes get deleted....

handles & kite killers are the way to go! And really you should be able to fly the kite without looking at it before you get stuck into jumping.

That semi-frozen field looks really unforgiving if you were to fall on it...

Really nice stability on the edge of the wind window with that kite... And yup really nice wind for an inland location.

Welcome to the sport, hope you can meet up with Ryan!
