arkay - 12-2-2011 at 07:08 PM

I'm on ATT but thinking of switching

flyjump - 12-2-2011 at 07:12 PM

Been on AT&T since 05 and never had any issues

Seriously, which one IS better? This is like Ford Vs. Chevy. All I want to do is call/text. I don't care about 3G 4G 5G 27G. And I don't want my calls dropped. I've had AT&T since it was Cingular Wireless... It seems kind of expensive? I had a Verizon pay-as-you-go phone once, but I've never been on a contract with them. Is Verizon cheaper for the same st00f you get with AT&T?

From all my travels across the US I've found that ATT is really good in the middel states and verizon is better on the coasts. Has anybody else noticed this?

Verizon doesn't work here in Fiji but that is what I use. Thanks for the internet I can still have my technoligy fix even if it is on a smart phone.:wee:

I used Verizon on our NABX road trip and it was solid from Montana to Arizona and back. Even out on the Playa and staring across the Colorado at Mexico. (I think that was the Colorado?)

I've had verizon for 10 or 12 years. They seem to have the best network. I know people that wanted an iphone so they got a contract with Att, then because of spotty service they also got a blackberry from verizon to make calls with. Extravagant I know, but not uncommon. Having the choice, I'd go with Verizon now that they have the iphone. I'm sure ATT is worried millions will do just that.

yah, probably ... i was in the Verizon store today and it was packed with everyone trying to get an iphone. at $29.99 for unlimited data its great.

i just wanted to know because I have Verizon to Verizon calling for FREE.

I was on ATT from 1998 until 2008 when I switched to Verizon. Much better coverage and twice as fast internet...for my area! For the NW and mid west verizon has ATT beat IMO.
Gotta love ATT's ads....ignore the numbers...ATT has the fastest network! No doubt there are places where that is true....just not many!
As for the iphone....I'll take my droid x any old day over iphone. It's a much more capable phone and open source / configurable. Iphone is just a status symbol and way to regulated by the Stevie Jobs crew.

bobalooie57 - 12-2-2011 at 07:52 PM

Yah BB, can you imagine that incoming 3am call from Rip wired on the Redbull! Or, has it already happened???

BeamerBob - 12-2-2011 at 07:58 PM

Shh. he doesn't realize he doesn't have my number yet. At least we're on the same time zone. We skype all the time for free and I can turn the computer off! :ninja:

I've had pretty much every brand out there. I've been on Att for the last five years because they were the only ones who had decent customer service and didn't treat me like a lowly serf. Every other network has had large problems with either customer service or value. Often there was lots of 'nickel & dime-ing' to go along with the poor service. I had one that would constantly send me texts and then charge me for the texts they sent me even though I requested that my service not send me texts and they were adamant that it was needed for troubleshooting and that I wouldn't be charged. This was the standard type of service I got until I joined Cingular. When ATT bought out cingular, I grew very concerned, remembering when ATT had cell service and then sold out and exited the market. Why were they coming back in? But so far everything's been good and my forays and inquiries into the other SP's has caused my eyebrows to raise and was pretty off-putting. I'll keep checking because you never know when things will change, but in my neck of the woods, ATT still has the best overall service.

and yes, Rip, we get lots of free calls on ATT, too (mobile2mobile/nights-weekends, etc). As a matter of fact, the majority of my calls are free.

rocfighter - 12-2-2011 at 09:14 PM

I'm on verizon as well. It has always worked for me. except in Antigua. No service there!!
Sandy is on ATT but often when I call her they say all circuts are busy, I hope this doesn't happen to verizone when they get the Iphone.
BTW I only use this as a phone, not texting or internet for me on my PHONE it's a phone!!

csa_deadon - 12-2-2011 at 09:59 PM

Been with AT&T since they bought Cingular, since the bought Cellone. Never an issuse. Even had great service on the playa last year with 3 bars and 3g network connected.

Aren't w all (or should we all be) on Skype? "David Olsen" on Skype

mdntdncr - 13-2-2011 at 08:42 AM

Actually, I just signed up 2 weeks ago at the behest of a friend and bought a cam/mike but now he's too busy to actually get on. I don't know anyone else who's doing it, so I haven't finished or 'called' anyone.

labrat - 13-2-2011 at 11:34 AM

The best carrier is the one that gives you service where you are most often and that all your "friends" have. Wife's business changed carriers years ago. One worked best at all the satellite locations, but they changed to the service that worked best at the main office. There are holes in all the carriers.

As for smart phones, i love my i-phone and i am not an apple person. I really support open source, yet this particular unit is just so well done. From what i have heard, Verizon's network will not support simultaneous data and voice. This is one of the features of the i-phone that i use often. I am waiting for all of the friends who were waiting in line to get one to report back to me.

rocfighter - 13-2-2011 at 05:05 PM

Sorry my Skype is david.olsen7 I signed up when AKA was using it for the monthly meetings so I could be involved.
