Parks in Vegas

nocando - 24-2-2011 at 02:17 AM

Hi all, with a week to kill around Vegas before NABX starts.

Are there any parks which would be ok for some static flying

And is it allowed ?

If you have a week to blow before head up to mt zion national park (it is by far my favorite national park and one of the prettiest once you get off the beaten path) if you head up there stop in at Zion adventure company for gear rentals and ideas- great people.(about 3 hrs north) and do some canyoneering, hiking at red rocks (30 minutes). If you are really adventurous or willing to drive you also have bryce canyon. And of course hoover dam is just south of vegas. Lastily do a search on the internet but there is an extreme dune buggy tours (you to the driving) just north of Vegas that i am hoping to check out when out there in May.

Or you could go the other way. Death Valley NP is really close. Lots of open space, enough to put up a single line. No restrictions that I know about. Stunning scenery. Rent a 4WD if possible to go down Titus Canyon.

There is a park us locals go to every friday night named the Silverbowl. It is right next to Sam Boyd Stadium. Its a soccer park with plenty of room to static fly or ride if you like. We start showing up around 5pm and stay till the lights go out at around 11pm. You can always contact me when you get here and we can meet up. And if there is no wind I can show you some cool spots to go to hike, camp, go Stand up Paddleboarding, Offroading, or whatever you fancy.

go Stand up Paddleboarding,

Sweet...where might that be?

OBTW, there are some other lake beds that are relatively close by as well. I hit up ElDorado when I was there last month and had a pretty good time. Wind was up and down but I wasn't complaining.

Paddlleboarding is out at Lake Las Vegas.

And Eldorado is ok but gets tore up by atv frequently. There is another dry lake about an hour and half outside of town that is 5 miles x 5 miles. Its huge! I took the guys from New Zealand there last year and had a blast. Planning a trip over there this year sometime during NABX.

Of course you could always meet us at the pre-event!

People may start showing up there as early as the 23rd....
