$1000 for "pain and suffering"

XdisasterXdrewX - 26-2-2011 at 12:15 AM

So about 2 months ago I was rear ended by a kid from school (I was stopped, he was going 50mph).

My neck was hurting really bad but I went to a doctor and got it checked out just to be safe and found out that nothing was broken.
It has been hurting me still every once in a while but today i came home from work and my (drunk) dad told me about the check that the insurance company sent me.

I think the $1000 cured my neck problems HAHAHA

... you do know that if you'd put on a big show and claimed like $20,000 they probably would have settled out of court? Got a buddy in the US who's an insurance assessor and he tells some horror stories of people ripping off other people with false claims :(

If you didn't expect it though - that's nice of them :)

That is almost another new kite!!!!

@Kamikuza
Yeah I realized that but they were about to give me $250 at first but my dad told them that he had a good friend that was a lawyer.
They changed their minds really quick when they heard that :P

@22bene
The first thing that my dad told me was that I cant spend it on a kite (he knows me too well)
I have to save it for a car
...BUT, that means that all the money that I'm making from my job no longs has to be put towards a car so I can start saving for kites and boards and everything

If I buy a kite, I plan to buy used because I know the people here wont rip me off.

In Canada you have up to 2 years to settle or sue.

I was advised to wait out the full 2 years to be sure my injuries didn't get worse.

I crashed into the back of someone here at very low speed ... long story, but he tried to rip us off by getting us to pay in cash but we insisted on going through the insurance company. He pulled the "Wooh wooh whiplash foo the angst" card and took bunches of time off work etc etc claiming a heap of money from our insurance. They kept us updated with little postcards everytime he got money :rolleyes:
... until about a year later, we got a postcard saying they decided he'd ripped them off and so they were taking him to court :lol:

^^^ Exactly why I don't want to lie about it just to get more money.
Plus I'm a good guy :P

Kamikuza - 27-2-2011 at 09:51 PM

There's 120 million people here who'd disagree with you :o

XdisasterXdrewX - 27-2-2011 at 10:50 PM

true, I just didnt want to push it. My neck has been fine for the past two weeks and I just want to put it all behind me.
Plus the person who hit me was a friend from school and I wouldnt want to ruin our friendship out of me trying to get more money
