buggy speed

anybody know what the cheapest easiest way is to tell how fast you are going in a buggy? GPS? if so what setup?

Thanks

I just bought a etrex legend for $50 on ebay. Can't get good and simple for less than that. You can use a bike computer for about half that, but the magnets get knocked off and wires (if not wireless) break off. Some of them don't adapt well to the small diameter wheels we use.

Here is an idea :eureka: : can't we use the car GPS ? their mobile as well, have the speed clock on it and fairly cheep.
I mean, they can be use out of the car, why not mount one on the buggy ?!

Anyone ....?

got an iphone? they have free apps that will tell you max speed.

In addition to that I will be using a etrex legend like beaver bob and a foretrex 301.

just incase I get some reading I am not sure of I will have 2 other sources to confirm the speed

If you have an Android phone, there's the My Tracks app:

I bought an etrex gps on craigslist used (looks new) for $30.00 shipped to the door.

had a friend that was kite skiing yesterday and tried Every Trail and also MotionX GPS on his phone and MotionX recorded a max speed of 48.5kmh while EveryTrail said 73.3 kmh. Another interesting discrepancy was his altitude changes showing he was either boosting 90 ft jumps or falling into deep holes everywhere.

Get a cheap gps with a display on it and the garmin etrex is normally on sale for less than 99.00

Dino you better not show me your iPhone speed I will not believe it. :moon:
Doesn't the playa have data loss there.

If you already have a portable car GPS I have to expect it would work. Mine seems pretty accurate. Thing is it could easily get smashed.
Etrex is acceptable but fortrex is worth the extra few bucks IMHO
