powerkiting sucks

depowerman - 13-3-2011 at 10:12 AM

powerkiting sucks when you have a broken clavical. I broke it in an unrelated event on superbowl sunday. I have been going to the doctor ever since to see if it would heal and it wont. Now im lookin at a plate a a couple of screws and a minimum of 6 more weeks of healing. All because it broke out towards to end by my shoulder, and it wont match up again. Doctor said collar bone breaks usually arent a big deal unless u break it where i broke it . I have only been powerkiting since july and still have the bug BIGTIME! anyway i just needed to vent. My family doesnt understand my depression/frustration from not being able to kite. And of course its been windy latey.

One of the only injuries I've had that isn't haunting me as I grow older is my twice busted clavical. Ugly bump but no real issues. Sounds like yours is a bit different ? Here is hoping you recover as well as I did!

thanks blade, glad to hear it went good for you.

Kite Simulator

Here ya go! You'll likely get bored quick but I have to admit going here for some strange when my kites weren't giving me any....

Its better than sitting around the house with your bar in your hands.....

I am at Seaside Oregon and was out flying yesterday. Of course when I went out to get my stuff it was dry but soon is started to drizzle. I wasn't going to let that stop me. My brother was out flying one of my kites too. Just when we were finishing up a gust hit us. My brother got picked up and landed flying my 5m blaze. He let go of one handle about 45yrds up wind of me which flew forward and wrapped around my lines. I saw it coming and moved my kite from about 10 oclock up. Apparently I did it too fast and instantly I was airborne. I went up pretty far for me and shot forward. I landed on my feet then smacked my butt and bounced. The kite dragged me about 15 yards before I could pull my release. The CT of my spine shows the bone are ok but it hurt like hell. 6 days left on my trip at the beach and I a not sure I will get to fly again. I am pretty lucky I didn't get hurt more though. I wish I had some hillbilly pants on. I feel your pain Depowerman

Hey stetson glad your on vacation sorry about the tailbone, that seriously sounds like it hurt. hope they gave you somthing for the pain. I wonder why this stuff never happens on the last day of vacation.maybe in a couple of days you can fly again. On the good side of things I am getting pretty good at cards sitting around here and i have to goto vegas in may and july for business and pleasure so maybe ill win some money this time. Last time I was in vegas my gambling points got me a insulated cup.
only cost me $400.00 .lol

I feel your pain, I am still flying on a dislocated shoulder from November. Been a pain when it comes to my FB, but I can still rock a depower one handed!.... along with a full bottle of tylenol and some heat packs. My friends have told me that my new eau de toilet smells like ben-gay and grass.

Somehow I am okay with that, even when dressed to the nines in my finest dress and heels and attending the Opera. At least here in Boulder/Denver when people smell that they smile cause they know you play hard.

Have had major surgries on a shoulder.....understand how you feel....just think though....how good its gonna feel when your on the mend and your out on your favorite stomping ground tearing it up:wee:....keep that happy thought in your mind and get better soon

i almost hate to say it but,

i think powerkiting in the least amount of wind possible is the best.

wind that is stable, and predictable, will keep you out of the ER.

I know from experience.

Take care and keep on keepin' on

The ole' just as we were finishing up trick eh' stet! Glad to hear your not seriously hurt. Those tail bone injuries can sure be painfull for a while. Try to enjoy the rest of your vacation. Maybe when you get home you can get one of those big foam donuts to stick down the back of your pants while your kiting! Heh, at least you know a bunch of ER docs to take care of your pain in the arse! LOL
Check in when you get back in town.
