I use my wife's health care plan and my home owners insurance for the rest. And the promise to be able to drive home after the event, :oaikman1 - 21-3-2011 at 10:30 AM
As far as health insurance, just go to your bank and buy insurance there. Should cost about $30-$50 depending on how long you are going for and your
age. I had a trip to the hospital 4 yrs ago down there with a broken collar bone. Cost about $2500us, but the travel insurance I purchased covered it
all. I had to pay $2000 upfront and they sent me a bill for the balance after I got home.
As far as your gear goes, when Mark & Jim got there truck broken into and all there gear stollen, I believe they put it through on
their homeowners insurance. I don't think they got very much for their stuff though.ripsessionkites - 21-3-2011 at 10:56 AM
I have travel and insurance from work, but also add more insurance, b/c you just can never have enough.
AMA Travel Insurance is available only when your travel plans have been booked through AMA Travel or direct with an approved AMA Travel supplier.
Will try bcaa
Thanks

Oh sorry - I thought you were just talking about health insurance. Your homeowners policy will cover any personal belongings. On my journey to NABX
last year my insurance company (ING) just had me take photos of EVERYTHING and to take them inside my house in such a way that it was unquestionable
that I brought the item from home. This doubled as proof for Border Services should they try to tell me I bought stuff down there (never had to worry
though).
Anything I bought on the trip was automatically insured by virtue of the receipt that I got when I bought it and the kite bits that I picked up on the
Playa (which I'd bought and paid for well before NABX - no 'sales' on the playa afterall) were covered by the PayPal transactions and photos from the
sellers.
I clarified with them that we're talking $10k PLUS worth of KITE gear and they said it doesn't matter what it is, as long as I can prove I own it.
You can also get similar insurance through the rental car but still, they'd probably loophole their way back to your homeowners/tenants policy.

I am covered for health with my type of Visa card. My union is also supposed to cover me but has proven to be poor.
For my gear I have BCAA houshold insurance and expect I am covered ? I have pictures + Coolbreeze has an itemized list.
The thing I'm not so sure my houshold insurance will cover is liabilaty and I worry about that when going South!
Like Major Tom says, I'm afraid of Americans !
Car rental insurance is a MUCH better deal if you buy it at AAA.
