Power Kite Forum

First post, with a question

Hello everyone. First post here. Been into kiting for a while and finally took the dive and bought a Blade III 4.0m from Scoopy. After reading through various forums and posts, I wanted to get peoples' opinions of the 4.0m Blade. Most people seem to favor the 4.9m for various reasons. I'm not necessarily wanting to jump (at least not yet), but I was looking for something that I will have to really work in lighter winds and will drag me around the field in mid to heavy winds. Is the 4.0 a good size/choice for me? I'm in relatively good shape and weigh 200lbs. Kind of a bit late now since I already ordered it, I'm more so just wanting to find out what to expect.

I don't own any blades but have some kites in that size range. I think a 4 will be a good place to start. Really good for a workout in the park after a hard day. As you get more into traction it will become a good kite for higher winds. Don't worry, a 4m will have plenty of power to knock you on your butt, especially in the beginning.
Good luck,
Dave

Glad you made it. Im sure after our talk you will be happy with the kite. Like Dave said, you will have plenty of power. Once you get the hang of it, you can get something bigger, and fly this one in higher winds.

Oh yea, welcome to the forums.

I would look at the Ozone Riots, they are a great buggy kite with a lot of room to grow. You truly can't beat the quality of an Ozone. The Riot is a great jumping kite and solid for freestyle riding. I would get a 5M and nothing less. That pretty much is a universal size in the 10-18mph range. Also depends on what type of surface your riding, if your riding on a beach go with the 5M if your on a dry lake go with a size down.

We talked about the Riot. The only thing we couldnt get past on the riot was size. I dont really think a 5m kite is the best choice for a new kiter. A 3m was just a bit small for his weight. I dont want anyone to get hurt, and as a responsible shop owner, Im not going to sell something I dont think their ready for. That said, I do like the Riot, its just not my personal cup of tea. I like the all out aggressive blade.
