9m and 12m Phantom listed on ebay

sTEPSIDe - 28-3-2011 at 01:03 PM

Not my kites.... But for some reason I remember that someone here was looking for a 9m phantom... figured I would share for the ones looking...

shehatesmyhobbies - 28-3-2011 at 01:24 PM

Where's Chris (pokitetrash) Here's your chance! Hey maybe I will split it with you and get the 12m off ya! LOL

sTEPSIDe - 28-3-2011 at 01:41 PM

I should have looked in the wanted section before I posted this... Hell it was in the top 10 listed... I knew someone was looking for one.

AD72 - 28-3-2011 at 01:43 PM

Let the bidding frenzy begin. Looks like it is a package deal 9 and 12 with bars and harnesses. This will be interesting because I am sure all the bidders will come from this forum.

erratic winds - 28-3-2011 at 01:59 PM

I'm guessing that auction ends @1000$ due to the phanny frenzy that will probably ensue.

pokitetrash - 28-3-2011 at 02:15 PM

Aaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Get me me to my computer! I can't type fast enough on this damn droid!!!!!

geokite - 28-3-2011 at 02:21 PM

And they aren't even normal colors! That 12 looks yellow (might be orange), but the 9 is blue instead of green!

BeamerBob - 28-3-2011 at 02:27 PM

What was that address again?

What a goldmine! The winner could sell off the extraneous stuff they don't need. Price is bidding up fast too. $900 - $1000 is not out of line with 2 bars included and then add in the harness that could be used or sold.

erratic winds - 28-3-2011 at 02:27 PM

Yeah, I've only seen a 12 in the more neon-yellow, not in that orange-yellow.

Someone with a fresh tax return is going to be very happy.

arkay - 28-3-2011 at 02:33 PM

ono you just started a pkf bidding war...

BTW, I think these are Chinese reproductions...

geokite - 28-3-2011 at 02:34 PM

What is really amazing are the people already bidding, driving the price up. I'll never understand why people bid on something so early...guess they want to pay top dollar!

BeamerBob - 28-3-2011 at 02:38 PM

Well, you could also just go ahead and bid in $1200 and see if you get challenged. First bid is higher that whoever placed the second and third bids.

indigo_wolf - 28-3-2011 at 02:50 PM

Depending on the item, the bidder pool, and likelihood of bids, there are merits to all of them. Ankle-Biting and S&A works marginally better in a live/in person auction.

It's all maneuvering... in the end people will pay what they will.

ATB,
Sam

It's a tactical diversion, to distract you from bidding. An unveiled mock attempt. Go for it.

Just got my 12 in the mail today.

rocfighter - 29-3-2011 at 05:17 AM

Chris offer your blowcarts for a trade!! Good luck to you all. Chris if you get these we need to hook up so I can fly them!!

g00fba11 - 29-3-2011 at 05:22 AM

They are climbing fast early. I agree, it is looking like it will take at least $1000 to get these. This is going to be a wild one to watch.

slothart - 29-3-2011 at 06:58 AM

one of your members pointed me to this forum.
I am happy to see an active US forum... it has been awhile since I kept up with kiting.

I am the seller of the 9 & 12m Phantoms... if you have any questions, I will do my best to answer them.

Both of these kites were purchased new from an online kite shop called Indiana Power Kites in 2005 (I believe the owner's name was Kenny Dilger).

Would you be interested in splitting them up and selling them outright here on the forum...? I am interested in the 12m and the 9m will go in minutes.
Who is the forum member that steered you here...?

Yea! Ill commit to the 9 right now for a fair price.

Chad - 29-3-2011 at 09:41 AM

slothart,
I emailed you on ebay about your kites -

welcome to PKF!!!!

geokite - 29-3-2011 at 10:35 AM

Um, it is against ebay policy to cancel an auction.

If I was bidding on those kites, I'd be really annoyed if the seller canceled the auction to sell to someone else on the side. Think fairness.

BeamerBob - 29-3-2011 at 10:38 AM

I've had auctions cancelled that I was bidding on. It's happened at least a couple times.

Everything jonesband does is against their policy, but he's still a "top seller" there.

Chad - 29-3-2011 at 10:46 AM

Most sellers reserve the right to sell locally and in turn cancel the auction. I always put that in my disclaimer on all auctions?
Flebay already charged him for the post.. I have an issue with them charging again for the sale. and then again for paypal.. :frog:but thats why i dont use them anymore HUMMM

arkay - 29-3-2011 at 10:47 AM

I've had auctions cancel several times. It's the seller who pays to list it on ebay, it's not an auction house, really their choice on how to proceeded. I've also offered to buy two items in separate auctions as a package that caused both auctions to be cancelled. It was clear that only one of the items was going to sell, so it was in the sellers favor.

But more importantly, welcome to the forum :D

geokite - 29-3-2011 at 11:21 AM

Well, I too have had auctions ended early.

But I doubt the seller conformed to the requirements of ended an auction as described at http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/end_early.html#requirements

Guess the highest bidder wins no matter what! Glad ebay is trying to install fairness.

Chad - 29-3-2011 at 11:30 AM

geo,

I have never had a "back out" within the 12 hour time frame however ...
Your ability to end a listing early depends on the amount of time remaining in the listing and whether the listing has received any bids.

If there are 12 hours or more before the end of the listing, :eureka: you can end the listing early without restrictions.:eureka: If there are any bids on your item when you end the listing, you’ll be asked whether you want to cancel the bids or sell the item to the high bidder.

:piggy: in this case myself or pokite hehehehe and I will fight him for it
JK pokite I share :singing:

geokite - 29-3-2011 at 11:40 AM

Interesting. The table right below what you quoted doesn't have the option that all the bids can be canceled. My reading eyes went right for the table.

Cancel that thought on ebay being fair...my mistake.

WELCOME! :bigok:

Don't mind the tempers flaring up right now:rolleyes:. It would be awsome if you sold the precious on the forum. But they are your kites and it is a free market.

Hope you hang around for a while we really are a bunch of friendly folks.

slothart - 29-3-2011 at 12:51 PM

Thanks for the welcome all.

As to breaking up the kites and selling them on the forum, I have had some bad experiences selling stuff on forums that have left me hesitant to do it again.
I don't like the chunk of money ebay and paypal are going to take, but I'm looking at it as the cost of keeping things simple for me. Breaking them up falls under the same category... just want to get it taken care of all at one time. (though, damn, I have been getting loads of email about the 9m which surprised me... I liked the size, but not many people shared my opinion back when I bought them).

I'll definitely be poking around the forum for awhile. I did a vacation with my family out to VA beach last week and decided to bring a few of my smaller kites along (Little Devil 2m & 3m and a Mac Bego 400). First time flying them in over a year and it hit me hard how much I miss kite flying (though the Bego managed to remind me how out of practice I am). Gonna renew my search for a decent area to fly up here in northern virginia... hopefully dust my buggy off.

Chad - 29-3-2011 at 01:06 PM

Its all in good fun around here! We look at each other as a family. And as family we like to push each others buttons all the time.
the Willard always has so wisdom!! nice to know we are loved

Thx

g00fba11 - 29-3-2011 at 01:32 PM

We should start a pool to guess the final sale price on the bay.

Winner gets a cool PKF t-shirt......

Or in my case a coffee mug.. :o

It will provide me some extra entertainment beyond the bidding while I am stuck working out in Black Hawk.

WIllardTheGrey - 29-3-2011 at 01:34 PM

$1050:P + shiping

g00fba11 - 29-3-2011 at 01:41 PM

$1135 +shipping

:smilegrin:Aint Skeered! I hope at least whoever winds up with them is a PKF'er. No worries, If I dont win them, Im sure some will go on the sale block when the Phantom 2's hit the street, and we'll probably pay alot less for them. Funny how how our emotions work our wallet.

g00fba11 - 29-3-2011 at 02:22 PM

I am just enjoying sitting in the cheap seats for this one.

Other than the vids beamerbob is posting on facebook, this is my only entertainment.

I send best wishes and good luck to the bidders.

arkay - 29-3-2011 at 02:52 PM

Or you could wait for the phantom II's... I was hoping to snag it at NABX from "someone's" bag for a test flight ;)

cheezycheese - 30-3-2011 at 03:57 AM

Price is steady climbing... Can we all agree not to bid til the last day, so as not to jack the price up more than it needs to be...?:dunno:

BeamerBob - 30-3-2011 at 07:48 AM

So who all here is still interested? Just for the record, I'm not in. I just got my 12 a couple days ago. It's too bad that a bunch of us pkf guys are having to bid each other up. Even family competes sometimes.

pokitetrash - 30-3-2011 at 08:32 AM

Im in. :P

Remember: A stiff kite has no conscience!!

I have limits though. I'm certain these Phantom Version I's will hit the market when the new Phannies come out so I wont get crazy bidding. I know what I've paid for a "like new" Phantom with "like new" bar and lines and seen what a good RTF PL ARC should go for so I won't get upset to pay for a good kite.

arkay - 30-3-2011 at 10:11 AM

IMHO the bidding is already pretty high, it looks like with shipping it'll end up around 1000. Certainly a few dozen % above the going rate. The 9m in the UK or AUS with shipping is still less :o I was looking for a 9 for ivanpah, which I no longer need, and a yet unplanned trip out to Alvord (Any takers?). I doubt I'll bid; I can't imagine paying more than 1/2 P2 prices for a P1. Plus I've got my P12 which I've flown in 25 on the beach, so I'm set... if the wind is +25 I'll be in the water anyway ;) But hey who knows :frog:

slothart - 30-3-2011 at 03:33 PM

A local made an offer I couldn't refuse... I ended the auction.

Apologies for the anticlimactic finish.

arkay - 30-3-2011 at 03:41 PM

Neato :D
(No I did not buy it)

macboy - 30-3-2011 at 03:48 PM

Now to do the forensic sig searching here to see if any of "us" are "local" ; )

(We're ALL "loco".)

pokitetrash - 30-3-2011 at 03:51 PM

 Hope it was a PKFer at least! No sweat. It was fun fighting over them though!

BeamerBob - 30-3-2011 at 04:17 PM

Well, I was going to pass right by there tomorrow anyway so................... Nah, no idea here.

geokite - 30-3-2011 at 04:57 PM

If I bid on an item on ebay, I am committed to buying it if I'm the highest bidder. Right?

I don't understand why sellers are not committed to selling to the highest ebay bidder.

Don't any of you that were bidding feel like your time was wasted? Guess not. No contract mentality here.

It's like the seller went "Psych, gotcha looking! Figured out what the going price was!"

Guess I shouldn't care.

g00fba11 - 30-3-2011 at 05:06 PM

I am glad I wasn't bidding. When this happens to me on ebay I get real upset (read as !!&@&!**) as a bidder. To think you have a legit chance to win only to have the rug pulled out.

If you win can you just change your mind and say.... naw I don't want it.....

macboy - 30-3-2011 at 05:25 PM

Yah, It burns me too but it is what it is. Lemme guess....you were the highest bidder? Just let Slothart know you had your max bid at $2,000. I'm certain that auction would have SOARED over 1,200 (ask me how I say that so confidently....you know....me being two kites short of a four-stack and REALLY keen on achieving it ; )

I can't help but wonder what the guy made off the sale. No harm in letting us know Slothart. Care to share? t the end of the day you've saved us ALL money and envy

slothart - 30-3-2011 at 06:02 PM

I will say the range of offers from the many individuals requesting to purchase just the 9m was $400 - $600 (the lower offers were kite only and the higher offers were for the kite & the PL Bar with lines)

No one contacted me to buy the 12m separately

g00fba11 - 30-3-2011 at 06:11 PM

Nope. I wasn't bidding. I am committed to a Synergy deal and buggy deal. So I didn't have the dinero to jump in. But boy I wanted to. I was hoping to make an offer on some of the extra gear that I was sure would have found its way to the forum though.

macboy - 30-3-2011 at 06:30 PM

hehehe - thanks for entertaining us Slothart.....it's all good : )

I just noticed you've got a sig too which means an official "Welcome to the family" is in order. Looks like you're here to play with us for a while! We'll pry the info outta you yet

Kamikuza - 30-3-2011 at 06:42 PM

I'm glad I'm cured of my phantomphilia ... could have been messy otherwise

I am sooo late to this party. I would have bit on the 12m. Instead I was at the Rodent Retreat with the family standing in some line.
